Nobody's forcing you to read it, and if you don't want to participate in the debate, then don't. If Mr. Mark wants to, that's his decision. Don't warn him just because you don't have any argument to present.

See, this is why I said what I said. Don't harp on anyone and expect them to defend their opinions, because whenever we try to it leads to a full page of bullsh*tting. Let's move on.

As little interest as I personally have in seeing such a conversation play out, that's a completely fair point. If you have nothing to bring to the table, why whine about whining? Find something else productive and engaging to do or discuss.penguintruth wrote:Nobody's forcing you to read it, and if you don't want to participate in the debate, then don't. I'm disappointed to see that they censored Reacoom's butt cleavage. Come on, Nicktoons! It was FUNNY! For comedic effect! We see Spongebob's crack all the time! Heck, I'm even pretty sure we've seen Timmy Turner's a few times as well!

As much as I disagree with the tone of this, the general message behind it is true. Really, what's the point of going at each other's throats over this shit? Our opinions are so set in stone and the opinions at debate are both on completely different sides of the subjective scale, to the point where neither sides are really gonna give a damn what the other person thinks because they're tastes are so different. These really bring nothing but bitter feelings that do nothing but grow over time and really, they progressively ruin the reputation of the community as a whole because every thread devolves into shouting matches where people aren't even really trying to truly debate with each other - they're just trying to see how much of a thorn they can be in the other side or just assert what their opinion just for the sake of it. I mean, what is anyone going to get out of an "argument" that is essentially, "I'm right!", "No, I'M Right!", "No, goddammit, I"M RIGHT!", "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, I'M RIGHT!", "YOUR MOTHER!". Nobody is going to bring light to something for the other side to see because the other side isn't interested in seeing it because they've been decided what they have to say.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Jesus Christ, not another penguintruth-Schemmel-arguement. Subjective character voice arguments go nowhere, especially when people are stubborn as they are on the Daizex forums. Ugh, you can pretty much set this posts as me declaring that I'm done with these types of arguments. Period. No bullshit. Hell, I'm so sure I'm over this that if I do decide to jump in one of these shouting matches, Mike can just ban me on the spot.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I think that's quite unfair. MR. Mark was asking penguintruth to elaborate on his opinion. So why are you acting like penguintruth is shoving his opinion down people's throats? Sometimes it seems to me that he can't win for losing. If he expounds on his position when people ask him to, he's accused of being redundant. If he doesn't, he's accused of not being able to back up his opinion. I honestly have no idea why his opinion is being treated any differently from any other user here who dislikes any specific thing about any Dragon Ball-related thing.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Jesus Christ, not another penguintruth-Schemmel-arguement. You are right, though, that subjective arguments ultimately go nowhere, and they do get redundant after a while. But that doesn't mean members should be forced to shy away from expressing their opinions, especially when directly asked about them.

I know, guys. I think I went a bit overboard with my post earlier. I just think people 'round here should agree to disagree when it comes to subjective voice acting arguements. Otherwise, the arguements are going to keep rolling on and on until the thread gets locked eventually.
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I'm not gonna lie, I've seen penguintruth asked to "elaborate on his opinion" too many times to count in these threads. I'm beginning to wonder if he's getting sick of it, himself, haha

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I agree with Gaffer, penguin has merely done what was asked of him and tried his best to express how he felt about Schemmel's Goku. In all fairness, he has given him some praise here and there, so it's not like he's being a "hater" (if you'll excuse the terrible terminology
) for the sake of trying to piss people off or present his opinion as the be all end, all of everything. In the end, we're all going to think what we're going to think, so while friendly debate makes for good discussion, let's just remember we all have our own opinions and tastes and disagreeing on such things doesn't mean we can't get along.
As for me, for the most part I like what they have done with Kai, but a few voices aren't my idea of the "perfect" dub. For me, Jeice is decent at best, Recoome was still too "generic cartoon idiot", and well, Ginyu is alright but I like whoever voiced him originally in the old "season 3" dub. Everyone else is pretty darn good but I wish they hadn't changed some of the minor character's VAs (such as Oolong).

Let me guess then, you think Sean's Nail voice is decent at best right? Feel free to prove me wrong and show me there is something about his work you can actually praise.penguintruth wrote: They're not entirely consistent in the past year because I've changed my opinion somewhat. What are you looking to accomplish here? Why don't you just come out and say something rather than going in a roundabout way? Furthermore, will it somehow affect your enjoyment of the show and/or its dub if penguintruth either does or does not validate your thoughts?
Why are you even giving him the time of day on this?

Don't mean to get in the way here, but in penguintruth's review of episodes 14-26 on his blog he says that Schemmel's Nail is his best role in the series.MR.Mark wrote:Let me guess then, you think Sean's Nail voice is decent at best right? I honestly wasn't sure what he thought of Nail's voice, if he does in fact hate it, to me it just proves to me that he's biased against Sean no matter what.VegettoEX wrote: ... but if he doesn't think the guy is any good and honestly doesn't like Nail's voice... what does that prove?
Really, what is so bad about his Nail voice then? It's fucking NAIL for Christ sakes, this character is barely a character to begin with. He gets gets his ass kicked by Freeza then is absorbed by Piccolo. Did I miss some character depth here, why is the stoic warrior voice Sean uses so wrong?
I'm still confused about his all over the place feelings on an English Goku, I mean if Sean used his Nail voice, then I'd understand. I agree Kaio-sama is atrocious even if I chuckle at certain deliveries, but his other voices Like Goku or Nail, yet Sabat's Vegeta gets praise at times?
Um, a debate on a message board?VegettoEX wrote: What are you looking to accomplish here?
No, because I'm a fan of the Japanese version before any other version, at least when it comes to anything Dragon Ball. I just tend to be less biased then some fans and how they seemingly ass kiss anything that comes out of an actors mouth that isn't Caucasian. Further more I need no validation on my opinions since I do a fairly good job expressing them.VegettoEX wrote: will it somehow affect your enjoyment of the show and/or its dub if penguintruth either does or does not validate your thoughts?
Nothing really ,other than when I'm trying to read posts and his anti-schemel companion continuously pops up in all it's repetitive glory. Sometimes I feel to need to ask why he feels that way, especially when it's confusing.VegettoEX wrote: Why are you even giving him the time of day on this?
I just checked, and surprise, he said it's "fairly decent", so again I ask the question, WHY? What is there to get wrong with Nail? Did his Kaio voice slip in a couple of times or something?DB_Fan1991 wrote: Don't mean to get in the way here, but in penguintruth's review of episodes 14-26 on his blog he says that Schemmel's Nail is his best role in the series.

I hope Greg Ayres voices someone else later on, I loved his Guldo voice. It was one of the best voices in the new Ginyu Force cast.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Um, that seems like quite a leap in logic to me. Let's say I say that Plan 9 from Outer Space is a terrible movie. Then I say that Glen or Glenda is a terrible movie. Would you then say to me, "You're just biased against Ed Wood no matter what"? I mean, maybe I just think they're both bad movies regardless of who directed them. So let's say, for argument's sake, that penguintruth simply despised both Schemmel's Goku and Nail. Maybe he's not trying to push some anti-Schemmel message because he has some unexplainable "bias." Maybe he simply... doesn't like the performances.MR.Mark wrote:I honestly wasn't sure what he thought of Nail's voice, if he does in fact hate it, to me it just proves to me that he's biased against Sean no matter what.VegettoEX wrote: ... but if he doesn't think the guy is any good and honestly doesn't like Nail's voice... what does that prove?

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
To me, it honestly sounds like people around here just love to play "mod". Well, no one's in charge of me. I'll discuss and/or argue whatever and whenever I want. What's the point of a discussion board if we're not allowed to have them? I thought the discussion was going just fine until a few of you started to chime in with your opinions on our conversation. I think that gets old, too. If it was seriously out of hand, then I'd understand. Otherwise, bite me. Whatever happened to "freedom of speech", anyhow?
Well, back on topic... before we were so rudely interrupted:
I'm quite fond of Schemmel's Nail; it really is one of his better roles in the new dub. Speaking of Namekians, I'm pleased with Dende, too! He sounds age-appropriate and, so far, has shown the proper emotion of a child that has just had his home invaded by complete strangers.

I've never had a problem with Schemmel's Nail, but it's not like it's a difficult role. It would be like praising whoever's doing Puar and/or Chaozu. Maybe the Japanese and English VAs are extremely talented, but they're not much of roles to gauge talent by.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I thought penguintruth's and Mr.Mark's little debate was not so bad, at least they weren't throwing swear words at each other. There's nothing wrong with elaborating on why you like/dislike a certain voice. I wouldn't praise Schemmel's Goku as much as Mr.Mark appears to be, nor would I criticise it as much a penguintruth (except his pre Kai Goku.) Sean has drastically improved his Goku compared to when he first started but it's still not up there with Ocean's 3 Gokus.
Sean's Kaio on the other hand...ugh. Even Penguintruth's criticisms of Sean's Goku would be too light for Sean's Kaio. This is a role which should've been recasted. No excuse. I still think Doc Morgan could've been awesome as Kaio. What a wasted opportunity.
