I was first introduced to Mystical Adventure through the edited VHS, so I was wondering if maybe they had cut something out that explained what the crap the deal was with "Lan-Lan the Stiff" as I call her. Then I finally get the DVD, and the whole thing is still inscrutable even on the Japanese track. Still, I find it pretty freakin' funny in a sick sort of way, and have trouble keeping myself from laughing every time I see that scene, and Tenshinhan brings her out with those mindless "Mr. Popo" eyes of hers. Maybe she's just in shock over the whole ordeal...?

How is Freeza gay? He's androgenous.

And Tenshinhan is to Chaozu as Goku is to Krillin.

General Blue was disgusted and said "he doesn't swing that way" when Bulma came on to him so...

Zarbon's not gay, he's a crossdresser.

Freeza...gay? It's not even certain if his race has gender. But, as mentioned earlier, he only comes across as feminine because of the atrocious voice they gave him in the dub. I thought he was a girl when Cartoon Network showed him at first.

Ok, he actually did play Freeza as being rather feminine, IMO. But, honestly, it just freakin' works! He pulls off the character so amazingly, that all his little kwirks seem more badass than anything else. For example, he does this high pitched "ho ho ho" type laugh, which would normally sound girly (like when General Blue does it), but the way that Ryusei delivers it comes off as being more powerful than anything else.

It's really hard to describe, you have to see it for yourself to understand.

Yes! I love the "ho ho ho" laugh! I would always try to copy it when doing Freeza impersonations for my friends. It just makes him seem so arrogant and untouchable. I think femininity is generally associated with royalty, so the voice actor's work really captured Freeza's omnipotent personality.

Actually, you can't be so sure of that. I mean it's not like you ever saw Vegeta and Bulma kiss or Goku and Chi Chi have sex. So if Tenshinhan and Choutzou ever did either of those things, you wouldn't see it.

I still think that they're just good friends though.

Ya, I haven't heard much of Freeza's original voice, but I love that laugh. I can pick it out anywhere. I like both voices for him, Japanese and Dub.

Can't remember his name off the top of my head (sometimes I have a rough time with Japanese names), but in the Japanese version, Freeza has a considerably deep male voice. If you've seen the DB Piccolo saga in Japanese, I'm pretty sure the voice for Tambourine is the same guy. In any case, I don't seem to remember any gay-ish lines from Japanese Freeza. And also, on a side note, Jp. Freeza speaks with a psychotically polite dialect... that is until the battle begins with Vegeta

Yeah, so his voice was the type that might give one the idea of giving him an evil British accent. But I guess because of his androgenous (sp) look, that's why they gave him the feminine voice.

Not sure if my sources are correct but was Freeza voiced by a woman in the dub? I guess that wouldn't help. There's also the fact that he is purple, not something I'm bothered about but others will look into that. People say he sounded like an old woman in the dub... an old woman saying "Whatever turns you on Big Boy"... nice. O_o

Meh, you could say Raditz was gay, if you really wanted to. (Short shorts, long hair... yup)

Zarbon reminds me of Dr Frank.N.Furter. Only green.

Frieza was in fact voiced by a woman in the dub. Season 2 he was voiced by Pauline Newstone, season 3 onward by Linda Young.

I realize this isn't terribly on topic, but this thread has suddenly got me thinking that Tim Curry might have been an interesting English language parallel for Nakao. Or at least someone else who could act and sound in a similar manner. But I guess we'll never know, since they went an entirely different route with his character, and casted women.

That's why I always said that if they did a movie, they should cast Tim Curry as the voice of Frieza.

What about Doll Tucky in Dragonball GT? Also recall One of Mr. Satan's pupils at the Cell games. How do those two factor into this discussion?

As for Tenshinhan and Choutzu, they were like brothers. Any other idea about them is merely wishful or mind in the gutter thinking.

Satan's pupil was anime-only, although he did look rather gay (some girls liked him, though).

Tenshinhan and Chaoz were all by themselves, so that contributed to their great friendship.

Freeza's lips and that gesture he does in which he has one hand next to his mouth with one finger curved, look very feminine. Perhaps he's hermaphrodite (sp?).
