It was especially funny when he was was corrected about a Freeza line he criticized that ended up being in the original. Then he was magically OK with it, but he tried to tip toe around his fuck up by saying it was a "weird" line.

That's why I once said Psaros aint the boss of me, when someone used his opinions on voice actors as some sort of validation.
The guy didn't even finish his site and abandoned it, he was probably embarrassed of his own nerdiness, but still. Whoever says that no actors in the Japanese version use character voices are full of shit.

I mean, sometimes he was on the ball, but other times he did make silly slip-ups, inconsistent remarks and some that showed a very drastic lack of research... A little like Funimation, actually

Which Freeza line was it?

He says something akin to that in the Japanese version, actually.

Or is that the point...?

Yeah, that's the point. Chris Psaros criticized the dub for that line, when it was also in the Japanese version.

DBZ Uncensored could be a little over the top, but mostly Psaros did a good job.

Despite my criticisms he did do a fairly good job informing people of FUNI and there dub-rapeage of Z. Pity he didn't finish but I suppose he figured he got his point across with what he covered.

Yeah, no denying the guy made an impact and that most of his points were ones that had to be made... But he could be a little too sure of himself sometimes, to the point where he liked to act as though he was the authority on almost every subject. Talking about voice actors in that way was kind of a sore spot because I'm a big fan of the likes of Billy West who make producing fitting voices for characters seem effortless. Considering some of the interview comments West has made about the voice acting trade, if he read what Psaros had to say I doubt he'd be very happy.

It's also funny reading back his comments on the Pokemon dub by 4Kids saying "Why couldn't THESE GUYS have done DBZ?"

Oh, if only he had known...

Yeah, we still wouldn't have uncut releases, nor even the Japanese version. We wouldn't even have Kai's good dub right now, and likely wouldn't even have uncut releases of many of the shows that FUNimation has licensed over the years...

Did anyone who was at SDCC this weekend possibly go to the Kai panel? I can't find any recordings of it at the moment.

So Kai was sanctioned by Akira Toriyama and he's overseeing it directly huh? Well that's news to me Mr. Schemmel.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

They sure are quick to pat themselves on the back for finally doing their jobs the right way after a decade.

And the worst part, everyone applauds them for it like this was the greatest dub ever.

For the love of God, can you cut them some slack? Are they not allowed to just sit back and applaud their work?

You shouldn't be rewarded for just barely meeting current standards. That's like if I had a C average in high school and expected a car as a graduation gift.

But clearly, not everyone sees it as a "C average" dub so you should let people praise it as they see fit instead of lording your taste over everyone.

They finally got it right. They're doing Dragon Ball in a way it pleases both sides.

What's the big problem? It's better that they finally got it right, rather than never having gotten it right at all.

As someone who HATED the dub and never cared to watch it often, I'm finding myself always excited to see when Nicktoons' site hosts the newest dubbed episodes. Even if I've seen these in Japanese, both Z and Kai, it's a sort of new experience for me. It's probably the second time I get to see one of my favorite anime series' being dubbed properly after being mishandled before (One Piece being the first).

By the way, I'm actually enjoying Ginyu in this, so far. It's definitely not the voice I would have chosen; I would have preferred Troy Baker. But this voice is working incredibly well, for me.

I also hate how people call his voice forced. That's actually just R. Bruce Elliot being a little gruff. Not even as gruff as Sabat gets for Vegeta, it's just a little bit of gruffness for that man. Same thing for when people talk about Massey as Oolong.
