It's my number one.
And trust me, I have seen tons of anime and read lots of manga.
Would you place Dragonball in your top 10 anime list?
Re: Would you place Dragonball in your top 10 anime list?
I only watch a handful of gag anime and Dragonball, so...yeah I would.
(Also I'm happy to see so many Shin Chan buddies up in here!)

Re: Would you place Dragonball in your top 10 anime list?
I got into Anime quite a bit in my late teens, early 20's, but after a while, I somewhat lost interest as nothing new came along that really captured my interest. I collected a lot when the DVD format first came out, but a lot of it I only watched through once and never actually liked it enough to watch again, so I wouldn't rank that stuff as "favorites" per say, as my interest in the genre as a whole died down a lot. Could be the fact that I am almost 30 now, and only nostalgic stuff maintains any sort of interest for me, or it could just be that nothing original enough has come along to replace any of my favorites. It is hard to say what the reason is.
When I was first into Dragonball/Dragonball Z, there were a lot of elitists who panned me for liking it and told me there was better anime around to get into. These people went on and on about Evangelion this, and Trigun that, so I checked those out based on their claims. Both series were good for a single watch-through, but I never liked either of them to the point where I'd claim them as favorites. I collected Evangelion on DVD, and while the first few discs/episodes were pretty engaging, it deteriorated into nothingness at the end that only the most die-hard fans tried to contemplate/explain.
While it is true that Dragonball Z is full of filler, poor dub translations, and animation errors, it was my favorite for a long time despite those things. It became a chore to re-watch over time though as it was such a time investment to do. The original Dragonball, by comparison, wasn't as bad, and It has always ranked high among my favorites to this day. The "Z" segment has been redeemed in my eyes through Dragonball Kai though. At my age, having a touched up, mostly filler-less, quality, highly accurate dub translation has brought the Dragonball/Dragonball Kai combo back up to my overall favorite nowadays. It doesn't take as long to watch, and just covers the main plot points found in the original manga version. So yes, if there was a numbered list, it would be #1 for me again.
Other anime that have stood the test of time for me to still like them and be considered favorites would be the following:
-Cowboy Bebop
-Yu Yu Hakisho
-Rurouni Kenshin (First two seasons anyway, I did enjoy the manga MUCH more, and collected all of it)
-Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
-Outlaw Star
Watched a good many of the Mobile Suit Gundam shows (There were a lot of them!) Tenchi shows (There were what, 3 or 4 of those?) and a handful of others over the years, but they were mostly one shot time fillers for me when I was in college, and I never cared enough to collect any of them to re-watch. Most of the newer Shonen Series' that everyone is into these days, such as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach just failed to "hook" me. I gave them all a chance and watched between 5-10 episodes of each, but I just didn't get into them. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate them now, or maybe they just aren't my thing. Again, hard to say, but for whatever reason I just drifted back to the ones I did really like again rather than follow them any further.
As far as animation created for the American market, most of it from the past fifteen years or so has failed to live up to the quality of Japanese animation, but there are a few standouts that I thoroughly enjoyed and watched all the way through. The first one that comes to mind is the DCAU (DC Animated Universe). These were a series of shows that shared a common continuity, started when I was in grade school, and continued until right after I'd graduated College. DCAU was comprised of the following shows:
-Batman: The Animated Series
-Superman : The Animated Series
-Batman Beyond
-Justice League/Justice League Unlimited
I also enjoyed G1 Transformers, which had 3 seasons created for the North American market, then 3 more for a total of six seasons when the show had its run in Japan. I have all six seasons on DVD, but really only enjoyed the 3 American seasons I grew up with, and the first of the 3 followup Japanese seasons (The Headmasters season) which was a direct continuation of the first 3. The last 2 were somewhat akin to spin-offs/side stories, being to the first 4 seasons of G1 what DBGT was to DBZ.
There was a Disney series called Gargoyles that had some great stories and characters that I also enjoyed in the 1990s. Too bad it was cancelled in its prime, and never saw a full DVD release of its seasons. That was a solid show.
I've run on enough here, but yeah, Dragonball/Dragonball Kai would be #1 for me. The Manga of DB will always be best, but that combo of the DB related shows would rank as my favorite animated show ever.

"Of" =/= "Have"
Contractions:
-Should have = Should've
-Could have = Could've
-Would have = Would've
The heck does "should of" even mean anyway? Think about what those two words mean individually, and then try to read them back to back in a sentence and make sense of it. Are you forming a prepositional phrase, is "should" a part of a larger grouping, or are you just typing random words based on how you think you hear them used verbally? Perhaps take a moment to contemplate this, and see if it becomes as mind jarring for you to look at as it does for me..

Re: Would you place Dragonball in your top 10 anime list?
Dragon Ball would be #1 for me since it is something I can always come back to after all of these years. I haven't really watched much anime since most of them I get bored of quickly but here is my top list:
#1 Dragon Ball
#2 Hikaru No Go
#3 Rozen Maiden
#4 Sailor Moon
There are other anime/manga I have read/watched i.e. Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Bleach etc. but I have no interest in ever going back to them again. I rate my top list on things I would re-watch the most and enjoyed the most.

Uhh, this thread is from last September. Please don't revive threads that old. It's against the rules.
