Really? This 24/7 thing is actually even worth a conversation?

Are you guys really trying to put logic and sense into Dragon Ball?
A show about an alien race that transforms into giant apes at a full moon that tries to collect 7 magic orbs that summon a dragon that can grant wishes, which an evil lizard-like alien is trying to collect for himself so that he may have immortality?

Really..? All of this shit is ok by you but if an alien uses the same time system as us suddenly it makes no sense?

I'm embarrassed now. Despite my love for Astronomy (and study of it), I forget some obvious facts due to being medicated (had surgery a few days back).

On the line itself, I assume it's a dub only line, or we would have had this argument earlier, perhaps.

Given all we have to accept about aliens in any sci-fi story, the implications of it don't bother me that. But I still don't think it's the kind of idiom that Vegeta would actually say. I haven't actually heard the line, but the line itself just sounds totally out of character. Maybe later in the series, after he's become more laid-back and living on earth for several years, but here it just seems not right.

Well, in the scene where he said it, he was being a bit of a pompous asshole to Gohan, so he was probably feeling a bit more laid back.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I mean seriously how can we have a discussion over something like this? It's just pure nitpicking.

So, wait.

Vegeta can't be aware of a twenty-four hour, seven-day week system because he's from another planet? All right, that makes sense.

But no one is bothered by the fact that, even in the Japanese version, he specifically sets his alarm clock for "one half-hour." Okay, great.

I think the fact that Vegeta use the term '24/7' at all is the main problem. Not as bad as mondo cool, but a Saiyan that was on Earth for just a few hours shouldn't be up on the latest slang.

They use Earth time, they speak Earth languages,

so this dub line is not a mistake and should not even be given a second glance.

Exactly... Except it's still out of character.

Okay everyone, let's come to a conclusion. Time in the Dragon World is seriously fucked up.

Agreed?

Well, now that's come to a conclusion...

I've gotten word from Brina Palencia herself that the singer for the dubbed 'Over The Stars' is Sarah Klena. I believe this is her first performance on a FUNimation dubbed product since i've never seen her name come up in relation to anime but hey, I think her singing was fantastic, espically since I actually prefer her voice over the original singers. I really wish we didn't have to wait another six weeks for next box set to be released but hey, we'll get it sooner or later.

Preorder from Rightstuf and you'll probably get it toward the end of August :)

On another note, Sarah Klena did a fantastic job with that song. It's just another example of the effort that Funimation's putting into its Kai dub.

I'd love to preorder from Rightstuff but I believe users overseas have to scan in some form of indentification (passport, driver's license) and that's just not the kind of thing I'd be willing to give to any internet database. I'd rather use playusa or up1 for these kinds of things. But thanks for the advice either way.

As I said before, I actually prefer the dubbed version of the song over the orginal. It just can't get into it as much as the English version. Could be to do with the language barrier but i've enjoyed many songs in Japanese so it's probably the same reason I dislike Field of View, the singing kind of bores me. Great song either way, flat out love the instrumental version.

I like your logic!

Just do what I do and skip over the stuff that's way too nerdy for you. For example, I love talking about out-of-universe creative processes and stuff that go into making Dragonball. Locations, editors, intent, and other cool stuff that makes me appreciate Dragonball on a deeper level by understanding where the ideas came from and what they were meant for on a slightly deeper-than-obvious scale.

"can gotenx survaiv in spase luk at dis panel shut up hez not a gag caractur hurrdurr," on the other hand, is something I can't stand.

As for the topic at hand, I never even thought about the idea of Vegeta not going by Earth time most of his life. It's a good point, but I'm just gonna chalk it up there with "talkin' ass cats" and call it a day.

Well, to be fair, Freeza doesn't exactly demonstrate a keen understanding of how long five Earth minutes are.

And a bunch of little kids are supposed to understand that without being told?

Face it. Toroyama having Freeza state exactly how long it would take was the fatal flaw in that fight. If he just said, "Soon," without giving an exact time then people wouldn't have cared nearly as much.
