Well maybe in the review talk about the Macroblocking in certain parts of the Frezza fight and if it was any better in the Region 2 version. I mean it's a great DVD release, but better care should have been taken with these parts.VegettoEX wrote:People have been asking me, and I'm not really sure why... there ain't a whole lot for me to say about it that would be different from the first twoGoku100xKamehameha wrote:VegettoEX are you gonna review the Dragon Box Z 3?. I'd like to, and I probably will... but if I'm going to do it... it's not something I'll tackle until at least next month.

The original Japanese DVD even had those, so it's no surprise. even in Kai it's still look like that.pjay wrote:Well maybe in the review talk about the Macroblocking in certain parts of the Frezza fight and if it was any better in the Region 2 version. Re: Dragon Box 3 discussion
It has more to do with the raw speed and intensity of the action the show contains, which makes it very hard to compress. Granted, the grain and texture of the film doesn't help things, but doesn't make much of a difference either, as the orange bricks have shown (which has the same mosquito noise and macroblocking during the same scenes as the American Dragon Box).Goku100xKamehameha wrote:It's an old show, what did you expect?pjay wrote:It did? Even then, there were instances in the American Dragon Box where there were compression artifacts not present in the Japanese one, such as the scene were Frieza escapes from Goku's Kamehameha before he drives him into the ground. It's to be expected due to the fact that is a re-compressed, re-encoded copy of the film, and not a 1:1 duplicate. The new Fist of The North Star has similar compression issues, that, like with the Dragon Boxes, are not very prominent, or noticeable except for the most high-paced action scenes.
Also, the Kai Blu-rays shouldn't have the same compression as the American Dragon Box DVDs.

So? The macroblocking is not because of old age. It's due to compressing the dual layer discs of the Japanese Dragon Boxes onto the single layer discs of the FUNimation Dragon Boxes. I'm pretty sure the Japanese Dragon Boxes didn't have the same macroblocking issues.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:It's an old show, what did you expect?pjay wrote:It did? Oh well nm then.

No! it has the same problem, it already discussed in this topic.Great Saiyaman I wrote:I'm pretty sure the Japanese Dragon Boxes didn't have the same macroblocking issues.

What? The English DBoxes use Dual Layered Discs, too. It would be impossible to squeeze that many episodes on a single layered disc without it looking like pure shit.Great Saiyaman I wrote:So? Whoops, misread something. It's still due to compression, but I put the wrong thing there. My mistake. What? The English DBoxes use Dual Layered Discs, too. It would be impossible to squeeze that many episodes on a single layered disc without it looking like pure shit.

@Metalwario64 even thought there not using the same compression as FUNi's Dragon Box Z, it still look like that.

Shoot, I just got the Season 4 and 5 Orange Bricks. I think I'm going to have to start getting the Dragon Boxes.
Re: Dragon Box 3 discussion
Ah yes, but unlike the US Dragon Box, The Fist of the North Star Series collection they probably won't have to worry about putting the English dub on anything but the first volume, (ep.001-036) because that is where they stopped dubbing the series into English, therefore they can use the available space for better video and audio encoding.Metalwario64 wrote:It has more to do with the raw speed and intensity of the action the show contains, which makes it very hard to compress. Yup, so hopefully the next sets will have less compression.pjay wrote:Ah yes, but unlike the US Dragon Box, The Fist of the North Star Series collection they probably won't have to worry about putting the English dub on anything but the first volume, (ep.001-036) because that is where they stopped dubbing the series into English.

Not that the US Dragon Box encoding (even vol. 3) is anything to sneeze at.Metalwario64 wrote:Yup, so hopefully the next sets will have less compression.pjay wrote:Ah yes, but unlike the US Dragon Box, The Fist of the North Star Series collection they probably won't have to worry about putting the English dub on anything but the first volume, (ep.001-036) because that is where they stopped dubbing the series into English.

Re: Dragon Box 3 discussion
My Dragon Box Z Vol. 3 arrived from right stuf Friday. Only took three days to get to my house from the time I ordered it... I watched the first disc.. Totally awesome.... I can't wait for Dragon Box Z vol. 4. I don't have DBox Z 1 so I'm kinda stumped on what I should order vol. 4 or 1 next month.... If I ordered vol. 4 on the 3rd of next month would I get it early???

Re: Dragon Box 3 discussion
Right Stuf shipped the first three Dragon Boxes about two weeks early. With a September 14th release date, Box Four may ship somewhere around the 1st. If that's the case, you may get it a few days after other pre-orders, but you'd likely get it before the release date.Vegeta1984 wrote:If I ordered vol. 4 on the 3rd of next month would I get it early???
And there's no guarantee that Right Stuf will ship early at all, but given their past history with Dragon Ball products, I'd bet on it.

Ok cool thanks.... If it doesn't ship early two weeks really isn't gonna kill me. So I think I will order Vol. 4 on the 3rd.
