New Freeza Talkback
Re: New Freeza Talkback
I honestly forgotten about Norio Wakamoto as Vicious, but that Villain wasn't really very memorable, even though I enjoy the series. Talent will only go so far with the material given to you.

Know a lot of guys who are more surprised that English Vicious is Guy-sensei.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Can't say I really agree with you there. Especially when the main villain sounds completely wooden and generic in English (compared to Vicious as portrayed by the great Norio Wakamoto!).MR.Mark wrote:I'd say Bebop and Death note are more or less equal. The main reason I say Bebop outdoes the original is that many of the key players in the Japanese version sound downright generic compared to the dub. With the possible exception of Faye, I don't think I prefer any of the Japanese actors over the English version.
Incidentally, Norio Wakamoto played the voice of Cell in Dragon Ball Z. Am I on topic now?
On-topic, am looking forward to see if he talks about beating them to death inch by inch. Always wondered how that speech would go though read it in the manga as said by Tim Curry or Malcolm McDowell.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Don't forget Koichi Yamadera was a temporary Tenshinhan and Steve Blum was more or less Goku. Hell, even Wendee Lee and Megumi Hayashibara had their cracks at Bulma and Blind Boy Majin Boo helps respectively.
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

So what do you guys think of Freeza finally losing his shit?
I'd say Ayres totally delivered on the "Vermin" line, gave me shivers. Whether it was from excitement or fear, I'm not sure.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
I adored that delivery. He has already completely replaced Young in my head when I read the manga. Really this is why I don't post on an episode by episode basis. 90% of my posts on this section would be sucking off Chris and nobody wants to read that.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Ayres was superb. The combination of his voice and the new writing for Freeza is REALLY paying off.
Re: New Freeza Talkback
Having heard what I was able to watch on the Nicktoons website (stupid Nicktoons website...), and being a big fan of Linda Young's Freeza *dodges rock*, I've got to say that I really like the new direction they went with in Kai. Ayres does a fantastic Freeza, very true to the original. I would like to have heard Linda's version, but even I'll admit it wouldn't have sounded right. This one is menacing and plotting, but clearly intelligent. I can't wait to hear his eventual breakdown as he's confronted with SSJ Goku, and I'm looking forward to the voices for the various transformations.

Anyone mind giving a link to the "vermin" line? I checked the last page quickly and didn't see any eye catching blue text, but sorry if I missed one thats already been posted.

Thanks, and ya, that line was really well done. I'm really looking forward to buying the DVDs and actually watching the full episodes with Frieza in them.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Man, it's amazing how different everybody's opinion is from when we heard that one little line in episode 19. Obviously there's no such thing as a universal opinion, but the very common opinion seems to be this, from the time he first started out to where he is now:
"Okay, I can't wait to hear the new Freeza, let's see what h............THAT'S IT!? He's just impersonating Pauline Newstone, for cryin' out loud! Leave it to FUNimation to get my hopes built up and...and then.......hmmm........okay, well....I mean, it's not terrible...it's....oooh......hmm.....ya know, it's actually kinda good. I mean, it's not perfect, but the dialogue is pretty close to..............WOW! He's pretty damn good!"
I only wish I could have gone back in time to when episode 19 first aired to tell everybody--myself included--that the one little line Freeza has at the end of episode 19 is not nearly a good enough indicator of how good Ayers will be.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I think many people were saying that back then too. The thing is, Freeza's voice did sound a lot like the past versions with those lines. Maybe Aryes was just getting used to the role?

Re: New Freeza Talkback
I'm liking the new writing style a lot. This voice wouldn't have worked out so good if his lines weren't written as well. He is pretty amazing isn't he? I especially like him in episode 33.
The only reason I won't buy boxes of this dub is because of Sabat. He just ruins everything. I'd much rather just own the Japanese DVDs and download some of the good dub episodes instead.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Now I'm not trying to knock Ayres' Freeza here. I mean I love his voice, so the following statement is neither intended as good or bad. But he really DOES sound like Zim in that scene. I didn't really notice at first, my girlfriend pointed it out when we were watching. Now re-listening and seeing other people say it on the Video. Yeah, I can definitely hear some Zim.
Freeza: You dare to mock me. NOW FACE YOUR DOOOOOOOM!!!!...Damn.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
People are going to get pissy but I hear it too. But I love Zim so that just makes it all the more awesome to me.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Zim is a little higher pitched, but there's definitely a similarity. Nicktoons has a programming block that is Avatar, DBZ Kai, then Invader Zim. It probably doesn't help when they play the two shows back to back.
They talk the similarities up. It's all about "Saving the world, fighting bad guys, and taking over the planet."
I'm glad that Zim is getting some airtime though. Despite being kind of dark, that show was pretty original and had a mind-twisting art style. I have the DVDs.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Holy shit, if his voice is actually perfect for Frieza, now that I look at that video.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
