Dragon Ball Dragon Box - Should I wait?

Post by coola » Fri Aug 13, 2010 4:21 pm

Should I wait for Funimation to announce (a/the) Dragon Ball Dragon Box (sets), or should I get (the) Blue Boxes/Selecta Vision Spanish release? Quality/correct colors are important, but not as much as subbed episode previews.

We've been getting this type of question a lot lately, huh?

The short answer is, "it's up to you." While we'd all certainly love to fork over more money to FUNimation for their brilliantly-done Dragon Boxes, there's been no word or indication that they've acquired anything beyond the Z series and its movies. The latter of which they don't even have any release plans for yet.

If Dragon Boxes of either DB or GT are going to come at any point, it'll be quite some time. So it might be a good idea to get the Blue Brick releases for DB if you're really itching to own the series, as they're very good on their own. It still comes with the minor risk of future redundancy though.

I myself am going to wait and see till I have all seven Dragon Boxes of Z. I'll wait awhile for hopefully an announcement. This is FUNimation were talking about, it wouldn't be like them to milk just the Z portion. Besides it's terribly inconsistent to only release the Z series and the movies and not DB and GT.
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Then assuming the Dbox movies do get released, by the time we have THOSE in hand, we'll probably then most likely have a much better idea of whether or not original DB or GT will get a Dbox release of some kind.

All I know is, the fucking Bardock and Trunks specials had DAMN well better get released in a Dragon Box capacity somewhere in all of this, or I'll split my skull open from banging it against a wall.
I hope so.

I suggest getting the Blue Bricks, if you're impatient and don't want to take your chances like me. :P

Movies?

Post by MajinGohanZ » Sat Aug 14, 2010 12:33 am

If FUNimation does release the Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box Movies, does any one know how they will release them? Like in singles, doubles, or multiples?

We don't know. My ideal release would be a reproduction of the original Japanese Movie Box. Virtually identical in every way (except in English, naturally), just without the DB movies. Those have already gotten their own all-in-one box (sans #1), so it's high time the Z movies got their 'master collection' as well.

Why keep out DragonBall movies just because they are in there own box. Those aren't high quality Dragon Box footage. Not to mention it doesn't include DB movie 1 which would be great in the Movie box.

Because FUNimation only has the Dragon Box masters for the Z movies. If they're going to release a "Dragon Box"... box of something, it should be all-Dragon Box footage. If FUNi gets DBox versions of DB and its movies sometime down the road, then they can release a 4-in-one box of those movies, too.

Although I don't know of this information from FUNimation so I won't argue with that.

But why would FUNi release DB Movies incomplete, they aren't special features. Most who know of the original Dragon Box would most likely go on an uproar.

99% of the people who know anything about any Japanese DVD releases are right here on this forum. And I think they'd be level-headed enough to realize, "FUNimation only has the Z movies, so there's nothing wrong with having just a Z Movies Box."
