What's Your Favorite Character? Why?
Re: What's Your Favorite Character? Why?
I guess it would be a tie between Goku and Piccolo but honestly I like pretty much like all the characters, I think the only characters I really dislike are Chaozu and... no wait, just Chaozu.

Re: What's Your Favorite Character? Why?
Well my favorite character usually varies on what part of the series I'm watching. As of lately I've been watching a lot of the Freeza stuff because of my Dragon Box's and Dragon Ball Z Kai. So I'd have to say as of now my favorite character is Freeza. Mainly because, in my opinion, he embodies every trait that a great villain should have. He's very evil, he kills for his own personal gain, he kills some of his henchman because he felt like it, he likes fine wine, he has a great evil laugh, and he's voiced by Ryusei Nakao! What more could you want in your villain!? I also think that Chris Ayres is doing an amazing job as Freeza in the Kai dub.
My other two favorites would have to be Vegeta and Karin. Vegeta because I enjoy how his character develops across the course of the series, and I find his personality to be very intriguing as well. Karin because he's a bad ass. I mean, can you tell me in other character that can open their eyes and have an ocean with fish swimming around where their eye balls should be? I think not.

I don't see him being "magically less evil", he has an enormous hatred for Son due to what he did to his father. I see not difference in his hatred, since he has no problem in killing Goku during the fight with Raditz. He learns through Gohan the value of friendship that he doesn't have to face the darkness of the world alone, etc. Not to mention characters such as Buu and Gohan were never shown such a light by Goku. And Goku himself went through some devlopment, especially during Cell. Speaking of Cell, he was never shown any sort of light by Goku either. I don't recall Sixteen being shown any light by Goku. Those killed by King Piccolo couldn't go on to the afterlife. Those killed by Piccolo Jr could, because he got less evil after reincarnation.Perfect wrote:I don't see him being "magically less evil", he has an enormous hatred for Son due to what he did to his father. I'll grant you Buu, and thus amend my statement to "{Good guy} showed me the light!". See also: Tien. Not to mention characters such as Buu and Gohan were never shown such a light by Goku. Goku, Gohan, Cell and Sixteen don't count because they don't have character development, even one as weak as "i was bad, now i'm good".

Trunks. Not to mention Goku went from a little boy that didn't know the difference between a boy and girl, to the greatest martial artist in history. And Gohan changes for sure. Maybe you should study what character development is before you erroneously use the term.Rocketman wrote:Those killed by King Piccolo couldn't go on to the afterlife. Re: What's Your Favorite Character? Why?
Rocketman, there are more characters than just Vegeta who had character development. Piccolo undoubtedly had character development because it wasn't an instant "bad-to-good" flip like Tenshinhan, he was Goku's archenemy and then turned good due to Gohan's friendship and caring for him like a son, blah blah blah, read the manga for yourself. As for Gohan...I'll give you that, even in the Cell Arc, he was still just a whiny brat who supposedly had hidden power (if you call hidden power just small bursts of power after getting angry). The only character development he had was suddenly becoming a pacifist and saying "Nah, I'm not fighting, beat me up if you want."
And you're saying Vegeta was the only one who had character development. Not much, it seems. Apart from Boo Arc, he was the same hot-tempered baby who cried about Goku being stronger than him, until he finally realized how much of a prick he was when Boo kicked him on his ass and he saw how much stronger Goku was than him.
Anyway, I don't know what I'm doing getting into an argument like this. All the characters in Dragon Ball are dysfunctional tards with mental problems.

Re: What's Your Favorite Character? Why?
In the beginning...
When I was younger, that is; Piccolo was my favorite. Tall, green, angsty, a stoic meditation devotee with pointy ears to boot, there was enough of the exotic and the bad-ass about him to appeal to my young teenage self. I thought makankosappo making shish kebabs outta Goku and Raditz was the coolest, most brutal thing ever. And that cloak... daayumn. And he'd always arrive at the last minute to save a near dying Gohan, making being fashionably late that much more fashionable. It was a totally superficial love appropriate for a young newcomer to Dragon Ball. Although he's no longer my favorite of all time, I'm able to appreciate Piccolo as a character whose compassion and humanity (er, Namekianity?) grows as he raises his nemesis' son. I like the irony of the situation.
A few years later, #17 was my favorite. That was more superficial than my earlier fan obsession. I think that was during my bi-curious phase. Eh, he's still kinda cool.
Then Freeza. It wasn't until a friend said that Freeza was his favorite character that I gave the character another look. Up to that point I had only seen American dubbed Freeza, and after buying the single uncut DVD of "Sayain Pride" or whatever, I realized how amazingly appealing the character was. Being sort of a sadist myself, I like sadistic characters. That might be another reason I liked #17. (Come to think of it, it's possible I was still in my bi-curious phase, contributing to my like of Freeza... or my hermaphrodite-fetish... kidding, KIDDING!)
Afterward my interest in Dragon Ball waned. Still remembered the series fondly.
Today, my interest revived as a manchild adult, I'm drawn to the opposite kind of characters. Kuririn's my absolute favorite. He's the everyman (well, the every-super-powered-martial-artist of course) who I can relate to. He's bagged an eternally hot girlfriend. He's Gordon Liu in miniature. He's loyal and cunning. He strikes me as a realist compared to the rest of the team. He looks awesome bald, he looks good with hair. And according to Dragon Ball hentai, he's a sadist/Dominant. He's funny. It sounds like I'm going through my bi-curious phase again, but I'm not, I just really like the guy.
Muten Roshi's great too.

Erhm...yeah.Vegeta to Goku wrote: Kakarot, you're quite impressive. I never stood a chance against Buu, you're the only one who can fight him. I think I finally understand how a genius like myself can't surpass you. I thought it was because you had something to protect. I thought your drive to protect allowed you to take advantage of your capabilities... this may have been a reason, but not I too have this drive. I fought to do as I wished, because it was fun to kill my enemies and feed my pride. But he's different, he fights not to win but because he absolutely won't lose, causing him to break his limits and he really doesn't care who his opponent is. So when he didn't kill me, it was because he saw I could care for others, like I do now... Go Kakarot, you're number one!

I like the underrated people. Not too big a fan of the "usual" favourites like ssj2 Kid Gohan, Goku, Frieza and Cell.
Simian upstart...none surpass me. No one even comes close! BURN THIS INTO YOUR MIND! I am emperor of the universe. The likes of you are only fit to grovel at my feet. Or better still...to be crushed...LIKE AN INSECT AT THE WHIM OF YOUR MASTER!

Mine would have to be Gohan. Especially in the Cell Games. He's just so cute and pretty much the most powerful in the show at that time XD. A VERY close tie for second would have to be Goten & Goku!! I just love all the Son boys for every reason!!
AKA PurpleWendigo, or just Digo(:

As of today, it is Trunks (in general).
Last night, I decided to watch ''The History of Trunks'' for the first time. I though it was quite good. Then, after, I dozed off to sleep.
While asleep, I had a dream. I dreamt I was a Z fighter, and I was fighting Cell, with Trunks. It was awesome! I can even remember asking Trunks (from my dream) a question, and I got a fully conversational response! It's weird, because it was only a dream. Yet I could talk to him even though he's not real!

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.
