So, how are the Dragon Box Z's sales?

Post by pjay » Mon Aug 16, 2010 11:08 am

How are the Dragon Box sales doing, I mean considering that Funimation had over-saturated the Dragon Ball Z market beforehand?

I'm not sure. Hopefully very good.
A Dragon Ball/Urusei Yatsura crossover would be awesome.
Having Toshio Furukawa balance between Piccolo and Ataru would be hilarious.

This came up during the Q&A at FUNimation's panel during Otakon. The answer was, in a nutshell, "good enough that they're not in danger of cancellation."

Well that's good, but the fact that they would even think of canceling the only true proper release that the series has ever had would suck.

You sure they're not in danger of cancellation? The listing for Dragon Box 4 went up later than Kai Part 2, and even after the "Curse of the Blood Rubies" movie. Also, on their dragonballz.com website, they're not even promoting Dragon Box 4. Instead, they're promoting Dragon Ball Z Kai Part 2. I really hope that they're nowhere near cancellation, but there's almost zero buzz about DBox 4 from FUNimation.

Yes, they specifically talked about it. They acknowledged how from the beginning they were intended as special "collector's edition" releases and they knew they'd be for a relatively small, niche market. Thus, they never expected sales on them to be super-duper-high.

The profit from the DBoxes is well within the range of what they expected, and as such the releases will continue. So long as we DragonBall fans with a keen eye for quality keep purchasing them, the Dragon Boxes aren't going anywhere.

Well just yesterday I bought the Dragon Box 2 & 3 from Best Buy for $130.

I sure hope sales do well enough so that we see releases of the Movies, DB & DBGT as well.

You should try to price match the Target prices. You could use the $50 you save to buy Dragon Box Four. :D If they don't let you do it now, keep that in mind for the future, at least.

Dragon Box Two
Dragon Box Three
Dragon Box Four

Considering they're on sale for $24.99 at Best Buy...I'd take them back/get them pricematched. Now. Otherwise, you just got raped to sleep by the dickwolves.

Huh. All three of the Dragon Boxes at my Best Buy are marked for 48.98.

$130 for Dragon Box 2 and 3, Yikes!! I never pay retail for the Dragon Box's. The most I payed for the first 3 was $35 for each of them from Rightstuf when I preordered. Seriously go back to Best Buy and tell them to price match from there website.

Honestly, it's not an issue for me.

I never shelled out any money for the Season Sets or any other DBZ DVDs prior, since I was always waiting for a better release, and it finally paid off. I was aware beforehand of cheaper prices online, but I'd always much rather buy my stuff at a store if I have the option to, I don't mind if it's at a higher price (well, as long as it's not over $100 for one box set). It was the Dragon Box 2 that was actually priced higher than the 3rd; $69.99 for #2, $44.99 for #3.

All you have to do is bring the receipt, print the online listing and bring it to them and I guarantee you, (unless the Best Buy you bought it from are dicks) will give you some money back.

Unless you just don't feel like driving back then..well there I can't help you.

And if your thinking "Well i'm just gonna pay more because that means FUNi gets more money", well that's not true. If you pay 24.99 per box or 69.99 per box they still get the same amount. Best Buy will be the only ones that make money off of the raised price.

Oh lord...

Well, Richie Rich, get your ass back to Best Buy and get me copies then. Along with season 4 of Dexter on Blu-ray and Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet. They'll be in the new release section.

Oh, and if it's really not an issue, I'll also take a Paul Reed Smith guitar. Thanks, Your New Best Friend.

Yeah, but, for $130 you could have probably got Dragon Box 2 and 3 AND three or four blue bricks

I completely forgot about the FUNimation sale. So, yeah, you can save even more money. Son_Gohan, even if you don't want to price match the Dragon Boxes you've already bought, keep the Target price match in mind for Dragon Box Four. You can buy two Dragon Boxes for close to the MSRP of one.

Sometimes the price is discounted on the computer without the label on the item being changed. If the item doesn't ring up with the discounted price, you can hand them the online price and ask them to match that.

I didn't realize Target sold them for so cheap...I believe I'm paying a little bit more at rightstuf for dragon box 4 D:

Oh well, I'll just have to be smarter next time, a couple of dollars won't kill me.

I'm glad that they are going as scheduled since this is the first DBZ release I've invested in (now that I can actually afford to, I came into a good job at a good time in the history of DB home releases :D)
