Dragon Ball Z Kai Part 1 PAL, Region 4 Madman Release
Madman's release of Dragon Ball Z Kai came out today. Did anyone buy it or see it in the shops. I was planning on buying it tomorow but for some stupid reason NZ doesn't get it till Spetember! F****CK! However I may be able to get tomorow if JB Hi-Fi has it early since it's an Australian based store.

I just imported Funi's one. It was cheaper and has region 4 coding anyway.

And it doesn't suffer the NTSC to PAL conversion, if there were one.SaiyamanMS wrote:I just imported Funi's one. It was cheaper and has region 4 coding anyway.

I'm guessing they just used a standard DVD box and added an extra disc tray rather than reproducing the mini box set Funimation made.

Are Madman's NTSC->PAL conversions still that bad? My Spanish sets' conversion isn't noticeable at all...Goku100xKamehameha wrote:And it doesn't suffer the NTSC to PAL conversion, if there were one.SaiyamanMS wrote:I just imported Funi's one. It was cheaper and has region 4 coding anyway.

You prefer it to it's American counterpart? Now, I'm not doubting the awesomeness of the set or anything, but I'm just wondering what they could have done to improve on Funi's release? I mean, isn't it essentially exactly the same thing?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I have had some issues in the past with Madman's releases of Dragon Ball and other series too, but I have nothing to complain about with this one. Everything is perfect about it in my opinion; the packaging, the discs, the DVD menus and the video quality. Madman have really outdone themselves with this one. I actually prefer this release to it's American counterpart. This purchase was definately worth it.

As I said on the thread that I posted the pictures on, I like the design and packaging on Madman's release better. I'm not at all saying the American release is bad, I'm just saying that Madman's release is slightly better.SaiyamanMS wrote: You prefer it to it's American counterpart? I personally prefer the US packaging, but I have the BD release.
As for the product itself, the best you can hope for with Madman is a release of roughly the same quality, nine times out of ten you have an inferior reproduction of the US release, complete with a lower bitrate and a shoddy PAL conversion (the BD releases are however identical).
With the region coding being a non issue with the DVD and BD release of Kai, it's actually cheaper to nab it online through Amazon.

I suppose the packaging on the Madman set is easier to keep in good condition, but I'd still prefer the boxes.
Although, I think the orange bricks are a lot better with the basic fatpack over the cardboard.
I might wait until I get Blu-Ray and just import them. Will end up cheaper than buying the regular DVDs over here. And Amazon has them discounted when you buy them together.

Agreed. Honestly, once I start replacing my R1 One Piece sets with Madman's R4 ones, I might consider sticking the Madman ones into Funi's packaging. Of course, once they get past early Alabasta, I guess I'd kinda have to stick with Madman's. Only imported up to the episodes where Ace debuts.Kingdom Heartless wrote:I suppose the packaging on the Madman set is easier to keep in good condition, but I'd still prefer the boxes.
