Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
I'd say that aside from a few moves, Cell got his haughty and arrogant attitude from Freeza. Vegeta had that too, of course, but with Cell it had a certain unmistakable classiness to it that was undoubtedly inherited from Freeza.

Well take everything he does into contrast. In episode 143, Cell says in both the English and Japanese dialogue that it's most likely because of the contrast between his Saiyan, Freeza and Piccolo cells that fuels his desire to become completed.Savage68 wrote:Not really. It just seems like you're over-analyzing his actions and making unfounded conclusions based on them.
Honestly, I've never heard anyone assert any of those "redeeming qualities" about Cell until just now.
"Or for that matter it may be what the blood of the Saiyans, Freeza and Piccolo that flows within me seeks!", what he roughly says in the Japanese dialogue.
Also as Kaboom stated, he does get his classiness from Freeza. Certainly not from Son-kun. And he acts exactly as a Saiyan would when he's angry, however it's proven that even through his anger he can prove to be much more cunning, than oh say, Vegeta. During the Cell Games you can clearly see that he's actually afraid of Gohan, as well as pissed off. You don't have to over-analyze anything to see this, it's most likely that so and so's cells are present, based on his mood. I suppose what stage of his evolution he's at also plays a part.

Cell's best qualities were his healthy expressions of his emotions. When that man blew up, he really blew up!

@Perfect
I'm not concerned with anything that Filler-Form Cell said, to be honest. Was that line in the manga? I'm not sure...
But where is Cell so cunning, and how, exactly, does that mean it was inherited from Freeza? When did Freeza ever exhibit any semblance of battle smarts? Was it when he blocked Goku's Kamehameha instead of avoiding it? Or was it when he resorted to the Tsuibi Kienzan after realizing that he was outclassed? Cell's "If you dodge this attack, the Earth will be destroyed!" was copy-and-pasted from Vegeta, and his "I'll blow myself up now that I'm done for!" was...well, a last resort. It's what happens with every bad guy that's backed into a corner. Again, you're holding Cell to some incredibly low standard for proving his intelligence in battle. If I recall correctly, Cell also hulked himself out, like an idiot, against Gohan. This is after he called someone else an idiot for doing the exact same thing.
In addition, I don't think there's any solid evidence that dictates Cell is bi-polar or changes his personality along with his emotions. That's not a bad theory, I just don't see much going for it outside of a single fan's interpretation.

You've missed everything I've said, entirely. As I recall, Cell's speech wasn't filler. And the filler in space was only backing up what was already established in the manga. It was when Piccolo tricked him into getting some answers out. He says this in the manga, volume 16. And after Goku dodges the attack Cell mutters out something like, "Yeah well, I was hoping you would do something like that.", not entirely sure on what he says exactly. But this implies that he was hoping that he'd evade the attack away from Earth, unlike Freeza. Also "battle smarts" aren't the only things that he would be able to inherit from said characters, it goes hand in hand with the way he acts and such. Also notice how I never created a standard for him, let alone a "battle standard". I was merely showing that his personality is based on what cells are dominant during what time, and which are recessive. It seems pretty clear that it's most likely based on his mood and which stage of his evolution he's at. You also have to figure in that all these cells mixing in are creating a unique person of it's own. Yes he bulked himself up because he was raged up. It's unlikely this quality is from Vegeta, since Vegeta explains that would be a stupid idea. In return this hurts Trunks' feelings. D:Savage68 wrote:@Perfect

Every character makes a stupid choice, Trunks, Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, etc.
Cell isn't an exception in this. However, he was able to fully outwit Piccolo, Vegeta and Trunks.
However, it's pretty obvious he was unaware of things about his design. I don't think he knew that it was possible to cough up something like Eighteen. Then there's the whole surviving due to the nucleus he wasn't aware of.

Sorry for forgetting...but how did he get Freeza's cells again? Was it from when he was on Earth for that short time?Perfect wrote: He was a Saiyan with Piccolo's regeneration with Freeza's cells.

Yes, Gero even stated such, and even admitted to not following them on Namek.Big Momma wrote:Was it from when he was on Earth for that short time?

Ah, thanks. That's why I was confused...because I knew that robot wasn't on Namek.

Alright, I think I get what you're saying now.Perfect wrote:You've missed everything I've said, entirely.
When Cell isn't angry, he's reasonable and can be fully capable of being "smart," just like everyone else. But when Cell is angry, he becomes an idiot, just like everyone else. Is that the basic gist of it?
Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
Yes, in a simplified way that works. When he's angry he's a total idiot. Well in his perfect form at least.Savage68 wrote:Alright, I think I get what you're saying now. Though my initial point was the fusion of so many cells within can make for a unique personality, at times.
You could also go deeper into his person, with his goals and motives, etc.

You could go deeper with Cell's person/goals/motives, just like everyone else. He's no more significant.
Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
He's about as significant as every main villain. You could say the same for the heroes.Savage68 wrote:You could go deeper with Cell's person/goals/motives, just like everyone else. He's no more significant.

Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
So, once again, the conclusion we've reached is this: He isn't especially significant.
Can this be dropped now?

Makes you wonder how different Cell would be if Goku actually finished off Freeza on Namek.Big Momma wrote:Metalwario64 wrote:Yes, Gero even stated such, and even admitted to not following them on Namek.Big Momma wrote:Was it from when he was on Earth for that short time?

He wouldn't be able to breath in space and wouldn't have been so easily ready to destroy the Earth.
Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
The way people are talking about Cell as if Freeza and Vegeta (and whoever) are his parents makes me giggle.
But then, I guess it's true.

Toei probably watched the Ocean dub of the Cell saga, where all three forms of Cell sound very different from each other (although voiced by the same voice actor) and had Wakamoto do something similar.

The FUNimation dub did the same thing.RazorX wrote:Toei probably watched the Ocean dub of the Cell saga, where all three forms of Cell sound very different from each other (although voiced by the same voice actor)

Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
Funimation's first and second form Cell sound closer to each other than Ocean's, also Funimation's Cell voices (especially 2nd form) sound extremely forced and devoid of the creepyness which exists in the Ocean dub of Cell's first form and now in Wakamoto's Cell first form for Kai, so I don't count Funi's dub.Metalwario64 wrote:The FUNimation dub did the same thing.RazorX wrote:Toei probably watched the Ocean dub of the Cell saga, where all three forms of Cell sound very different from each other (although voiced by the same voice actor)
Re: Kai Episode 69 (22 August 2010)
Um, no, Ocean clearly copied Clark's Cell voice, or at least tried to, with horrid results.
