DBZ Kai Spanish dub semi-confirmed, FUNimation involved?
I was wondering if anyone could confirm this. I just dropped by FUNimation's facebook page and it would appear the whole page has been hijacked by fans of the Mexican dub of DBZ, who have filled the page with demands that FUNimation use the original voice cast of DBZ for the Latin American dub of DBZ Kai. It struck me as nonsense at first since I was of the belief that FUNimation had no involvement with the show within the context of the Latin American territories, but one post caught my eye:
"The main reason of the people spamming here it's because the director of the latinamerican dub of DBKai (Irwin Daayán) confirmed via Twitter that FUNimation is the "costumer" (you know, the enterprise that brings the money). So, they are responsible for the whole character voices thing. Alebrije Entertainment is simply an intermediary."
Can anybody more familiar with the Latin American DBZ fan community--or even somebody more familiar with the Spanish language--confirm if there's any truth to this? It seems a bit far-fetched to me.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

Re: DBZ Kai Spanish dub semi-confirmed, FUNimation involved?
I don't know if it has any relevance, but I was once watching some Kai video on YouTube before FUNimation ever announced a license of any sort, and saw a Spanish comment, and I ran it through Google Translate, and it said something along the lines of Kai being dubbed into Spanish, but being renamed into Dragon Ball Z Kai (as FUNimation ended up doing to their dub, as Toei requested).
Somehow, I think that comment had something to do with this debacle.

Re: DBZ Kai Spanish dub semi-confirmed, FUNimation involved?
Here's a news article related to it: http://www.forodragonballz.com/2010/08/ ... y-krillin/
It seems like the only source for the rumor so far is the Twitter account. Hope someone here can turn up some more information!
EDIT - Some more articles here: http://www.anmtvla.com/
This one in particular may help: http://www.anmtvla.com/2010/08/iriwin-d ... a-los.html
If the sources are accurate, then Mario C. Castañeda confirms in that article that he will not be recording Goku for the new version.

WTF??? HELL NO. Mario Castanada IS Goku. I mean, him doing the voice for DB Evolution was what made the damn movie somewhat bearable.
And WTF does Funimation have to do with the Intertrack's dub anyways? Intertrack dubbed DB, DBZ and GT to its entirety way before Funi ever got their fuckin hands on it. Just the fact that they'll be callin it DragonBall Z Kai cause they'll use the Funi version instead of just grabbing it from the original Japanese is sickening.

Would that be terrible? FUNimation's version is completely uncut. If you meant they're going to get the pre-edited Nicktoons or Toonzai version, though, then I could understand why people would be upset.Coola Yagami wrote:WTF??? HELL NO. Mario Castanada IS Goku. Except it was Toei that made FUNimation change the title, so chances are other dubs (as I noted above) will most likely be called Z Kai as well.Coola Yagami wrote:Just the fact that they'll be callin it DragonBall Z Kai cause they'll use the Funi version instead of just grabbing it from the original Japanese is sickening.

Gonna keep my eye on this situation. Certainly interesting. Wouldn't surprise me to see Latin America get the sloppy-seconds in terms of who receives the license to Kai next -- Toei's been doing all sorts of deals down there these last couple years with merchandise and re-broadcast rights. It's about time for this one to start up, methinks.

This is quite impressive. This guy Jurik got original singers to redo the themes + some new ones.

God I love the Mexican dub of Z. I really hope that this comes to fruition and they get some of the original cast back to dub Kai, that I would import.

Woow I never imagined to find this here, ha ha ha
Those guys, Ricardo and César are my friends, that's why they sang that new full versions

Ricardo is the original performer of Chala Head Chala in mexican dub, and as you say, César is the original performer of Digimon 1 & 3 openings in mexican dub.

That's cool. I mean, I don't speak Spanish but, I welcome any international dub of the series. It would be weird if they edited on TV like they did with the English version. Maybe then someone could start up a topic about the Spanish edits, it'll be cool to see what is OK for Spanish TV and not American TV.Budogenkai wrote: A new Spanish dub of Kai is actually going to happen...
Then again, I don't think they edited anything out of DragonBall Z on Spanish television. So maybe not. I guess we'll see...

I've seen some of the Cell saga when I was in Venezuela and it did look edited, some blood was taken out if I remember correctly. I hope Kai will be uncensored (well..as uncensored as Kai can get). I hope there's gonna be a home release too.

Somebody more familiar with this dub should feel free to chip in, but I believe they were in the same situation we were in as far as there being both an edited release for TV and an uncut release for home video (bilingual, too--the Spanish dub and the Japanese audio track with Spanish subtitles). I vaguely recall watching a little bit of it on TV, and while not a lot was edited, I vaguely remember that during the scene where Freeza is choking Vegeta with his tail and relentleslly punching him, there was a brief few seconds that were edited. I don't know if you guys remember that bit where some of Vegeta's blood falls on Freeza's face and then Freeza licks it off, but I'm pretty sure that was edited out for TV.Budogenkai wrote:Tanooki Kuribo wrote:That's cool. Although the footage may have been edited, the script was essentially dead on in this dub.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Somebody more familiar with this dub should feel free to chip in, but I believe they were in the same situation we were in as far as there being both an edited release for TV and an uncut release for home video (bilingual, too--the Spanish dub and the Japanese audio track with Spanish subtitles). But I can't check if they had different footage on dvds. Since I can only go from memory and FUNi dvds.

On Telemundo, I could've swore I saw Nappa way more bloody than he should've been after Gohan kicked him through that rock. Like they added blood... or it was just uncensored and it was more blood than I was used to for that shot back then or something... Can't.... remember...
Anyways...
Will this air in the US or maybe get a release on DVD at least? That's all I'm wondering, seeing as I can't go to Mexico just to watch Kai in Spanish.

Re: DBZ Kai Spanish dub semi-confirmed, FUNimation involved?
Seeing as how their main audience isn't interested in the Spanish dub probably not.nathantheguitarist wrote: Will this air in the US or maybe get a release on DVD at least? That's all I'm wondering, seeing as I can't go to Mexico just to watch Kai in Spanish.
But they did they have the Mexican dub on the Ultimate Uncut DVDs, but that got the shaft. Later on they exculsively released the Mexican dub and Japanese dub on basically white UU DVDs. They got one volume more than the original, but then got the shaft. So if they did release Spanish Kai it would probably (you guessed it!) get the shaft. Of course!

It actually didn't have the original Japanese audio on it. Just the video. It had the Japanese title cards and end credits with the Mexican dub over that video. Which, really made no sense.AgitoZ wrote:Later on they exculsively released the Mexican dub and Japanese dub on basically white UU DVDs.
