Just as grainy

Post by Slickmasterfunk » Tue Jun 14, 2005 10:40 pm

I'm watching the re-dub on Cartoon Network as I type this and it looks like it's just as grainy as the DVD release.

Why would it be any less grainy? It's the exact same video...

I thought that some of the grain could have been a result of a sloppy transfer to DVD on Funimation's part.

Well, Cartoon Network has officially lied about the redub being Uncut. First off, they cut both eye-catchers, and then shortened the credits-ending. Anyone gonna take a crack at a false advertisment law-suit?

Heh, I'm personaly glad and relieved they didn't, it would of meant the CN airing would of shown something that even the Ultimate Uncut DVD didn't, and if FUNi would of just made next-EP previews for the CN airing only, that would of pissed me off considering the dvds are supposed to be the most Uncut out there.

They lied? Since when does Cartoon Network use eyecatchers? And they have to cut the songs for time.

They did show the eyecatchers from Original Dragonball in a couple early episodes, Goku and Oolong playing around with the red umbrella and dragonballs, so that proves there capable of using them. Regaurding the time issue with the Ending-Credits, they still regaurdless gauranteed the redub to be Uncut, however cut the Ending-Credits to a faster pace.

I may be beyond a typical nit-picker, but frankly they said Uncut and didn't deliver, and I own the first Ultimate Uncut dvd and the ending-credits aren't too long.

As far as uncensorship issues, they kept Farmer Grain's ciggy in a Y7 rating, perhaps we'll get the limit in the PG airings.

They don't even use the Japanese ending, so why whine that they cut some of the dub ending? The whole point of the uncut thing was to have more Japanese content. Why whine about dub stuff and just be happy that it's uncut?

Mainly because I am very nit-picky, and I kind of see cartoon network as a false advertising network, so anyone anywhere could easily hire a lawyer and probably get some money out of old Ted Turner, but mainly because I'm very nit-picky. But rest assured, I am a fan of the Japanese version first and foremost, like EX on the Ultimate Uncut dvds' redub, a big reason why I'm watching the redub on CN is for for spot-checking and observational purposes.

I'm just wondering what they're going to do when Roshi starts his "stuff". It's going to be hard to leave it uncut.

A thing I have to ask is what is the big deal about eyecatchers? They're just there to show when the commercials are going to end and begin. Or is it just a perfectionist nerd thing worrying about them in DBZ and other anime? No one complained that they did their default eyecatchers for G.I. Joe when it was on instead of the old "We'll be back after these messages".

I doubt anyone could ever sue for something like that, unless they could prove that they were hurt or lost money by it..but since TV is free, this would never happen. Besides, other networks have done things that border on false advertising as well.

If they're good eyecatches, I would like to see them left in. When they aired Gundam Wing on Toonami back in 2000 for instance, they were there. I think they add to the overall 'feeling' of the show.

I thought it was grainy only because the video was old.
While I do like the eyecatchers, I don't mind their loss because they're still able to be seen on the dvds.

The new opening overused the red filter though. O_O
On hiatus.

That, and I doubt hardly anyone cares anymore in this day and age, where you can watch the uncut series on DVD to your heart's content.

I'm watching todays ep and it seems it's holding up to being uncut. Old Man Roshi's drinking beer, and making lewd coments. Also they show baby Goku's "little saiyan" not that it matters.

Why? People who bought the DVD get extras and the Japanese version with subtitles. Even with the new episodes on TV, I still think the DVDs are worth getting.

Hey, if they didn't edit out Goku's penis, do you think they will edit and censor Hell? Maybe they'll keep it as Hell. I'd hate to hear Home for Infinate Losers again.

HFIL has to stay, because it's referred to as HFIL later on in the series.
