Yeah, I get you. It's kind of weird they did that considering they've already put things like "T1en" and "Tri Beam" in the title cards.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Yeah, the spellings used in the subtitles don't always coincide with FUNimation's "official" spellings (see: Frieza vs. Freeza).obiwan23s wrote: I am by no means an expert on the way things were done in the old dub because I haven't watched it since the 2001 or so, but for some time now FUNi has been consistently using "Kamehame-Ha" in their subtitles.

Re: Tanooki's DragonBall Z Kai TV Version Edits! *Updated Ep.15*
"Goku on the Ropes! Pin Your Hopes on the Spirit Bomb!"

One of the first scenes in this episode was a blood edit. You know the deal with these. I'm not gonna put up each one, just, usually the first one and tell you it's edited throughout the episode. That's the case here. Just know that whenever Goku's blood isn't black, it's being edited. When you see it's black on TV it's usually black on the uncut version too. It's only when the blood has a faint color that it's edited. Like this...

Goku plans on hitting Vegeta with a Spirit Bomb but doesn't get enough time to muster up the energy and is blasted by Vegeta before it's done. When Goku lands he says...

Goku then tries to attack Vegeta head on but is thrown to the floor again. This time Vegeta steps on Goku's legs, crushing them. The actual step and Goku screaming is cut out...

In the next scene we see Vegeta's boot pulling back and Goku screaming, which is how, I guess people watching on TV would know Vegeta just stepped on him. The camera zooming out showing Goku screaming in pain is cut out.

Vegeta then mentions...

And goes in for the kill...

Goku blast Vegeta in the eye with what little energy he still has. There was a quick shot of Vegeta before he throws his head back in pain that was cut out.

As he throws his head back the blood is gone...

Vegeta then says...

Vegeta then grabs Goku and squeezes him. Yajirobi see's this and does nothing in fear that he could be next. There is shot of Goku screaming in between the shots of Yajirobi talking that is edited out of the TV version...

Next Vegeta tells Goku he's going to kick it up a notch and squeezes even harder. The line is kept in but Goku screaming even louder was cut out.

Krillin and Gohan eventually return to the battle field. Krillin comes up with a plan to cut off Vegeta's tail. While Krillin is hopping towards Vegeta, he says...

While Gohan distracts Vegeta, Krillin powers up his attack...

When the attack misses, Krillin lets out a "Damn it" before going into how strong Vegeta is. In the TV version the "Damn it" is omitted and nothing takes it's place.

As Gohan ready's to attack Vegeta, we see Vegeta's tail has been cut. It's Yajirobi! In the TV version we just hear the cut sound effect, the tail fall to the floor and Yajirobi running away.

Vegeta then replies...

Vegeta, now back to his normal form, Goes after Gohan and says...

Vegeta then punches him in the gut. And we get a flash screen...

In the uncut version the "half-breed" line is actually here, in the scene of the fist in Gohan's stomach. You're probably thinking, if it's only 1 second cut how could he fit that whole line in that amount of time. Well, it starts when we see the fist in Gohan's stomach but ends in the next bit of animation which is Gohan's reaction, which IS in the TV version.

The next scene of Gohan on the floor and Vegeta stepping on his head is cut out.

Vegeta picks Gohan up and head butts him. The head butt is cut out and replaced with Gohan's dangling feet, you hear the bash sound and in the next scene see the mark on Gohan's forehead, the blood is edited of course.

Vegeta then says...

While Gohan is laying next to his Father. Goku tries to convince Gohan to attack Vegeta. Gohan is too scared and Goku yells to Gohan...

Gohan then remembers when Piccolo sacrificed himself to save him. We get a flashback and in the TV version it's left as-is. When this actually happened though, it was edited and didn't show Piccolo from the front. This time the TV version shows the front of Piccolo...

Just as Goku thinks he has got through to Gohan, they both extend there arms to each other, but before they can touch, Vegeta knees Goku in the stomach. The actual hit is taken out of the TV version.

You hear the impact sound, and see a close up of Goku screaming. That shot of Goku screaming originally had blood coming out of his mouth.

Vegeta then kicks Goku in the face, this was cut out.

Next, in the TV version we see a shock reaction from Gohan while we hear hitting sound effects. Vegeta kicking Goku while he was down was cut out...

The next edit is a little bizarre. Originally, Gohan screams which makes Vegeta turn around to which Gohan fires a blast at Vegeta. In the TV version though, we see Vegeta turn around and then Gohan screams and fires the blast. Odd. What was the point of this?
Gohan and Vegeta eventually end up in the air. Gohan kicking Vegeta gets a flash cut and Vegeta's retaliation kick to Gohans face also gets a flash edit. The scene of Gohan reacting to that kick though, was cut out...

Goku calls Krillin over to give him the rest of the Spirit Bomb energy. It then cuts to a scene of Vegeta and Gohan fighting, Vegeta lands a punch to Gohan's face and once again a flash edit is placed here. Back down on Earth Goku gives Krillin his hand and Krillin yells...

It then cuts back to Gohan and Vegeta. Amazingly there are some hits here that I thought for sure would be edit, but weren't. Vegeta bashing Gohan right on top of his head is left as-is, and so is Gohan elbowing Vegeta in the eye. Odd. I'm so confused by what can be edited and what can't be.

Krillin eventually molds the energy into a ball and yells...

Goku then tells Krillin...

And with that, the episode ends! Wow. So many edits! ::head spins::

Wow. It still never ceases to amaze me all the heavily-censored dub of '96 was able to get away with that's still being edited out of this version.

Can you post a clip of the missed Kienzan on YouTube?

That's a lot more edits than I thought. I love Sonny's delivery of the line "Holy crap!" though. It's just perfect.

Agreed, it's very charming. It reminds me why I love Sonny Strait's Krillin.xzero wrote:That's a lot more edits than I thought. I love Sonny's delivery of the line "Holy crap!" though. It's just perfect.

I always found this one weird when I first watched it on on Nicktoons. It just didn't sound right. Why not have a "Darn you" instead of the clumsy sounding "You...You"? LOL

I heard Kienzan, but then again Sonny said it fast. At least it's better than Destructo Disc.Gozar wrote:Hmmm. Sonny's still saying "Kienzan" wrong. Oh well, can't win em all.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Well, alright, if you people really wanna see it that bad...

I also don't see a difference. Although I didn't mind Destructo Disc.DB_Fan1991 wrote:I heard Kienzan, but then again Sonny said it fast. At least it's better than Destructo Disc.Gozar wrote:Hmmm. Wow all this censoring is insane!
Couldn't they just put Kai on later in the day or something?
With this much cut its almost a different show.

That would invoke common sense. Good luck getting that to happen.dan2026 wrote:Wow all this censoring is insane!

Hmm. Hard to tell. I could go either way on that. He does say it really fast, so I'm hearing whatever it is I happen to be listening for at that time.

I doubt they'd get a speck of attention any later by the network. It's not CW's style. Could have done uncut Kai on Adult Swim, or Fox's Animation Domination, but you know how things go.

Yeah, there he mispronounces it. This was brought up a while ago.
