3 Years?
Ok, this has pissed me off ever since I bought the re-dub dvd. When Ocean Group had Radditz say it had been 3 years since Planet Vejiita was destroyed, I didnt find it THAT big of a deal. I had figured they had no knowledge of the Bardock Special. It just irritated me that FUNI didnt bother to even check their facts when they were re-writting the script. Considering they had even dubbed the Bardock Special 5 years prior. Why did FUNI choose to leave this line in, and where did the Ocean Group get this number from in the first place?

Okay, this is my own personal theory to work through any type of continuation FUNi was using in the dub story:
Back in the Bardock special, a common scout of Freeza's accidently informed a hidden Prince Vegeta that Planet Vegeta was destroyed and they had thought no-one survived. Then Prince Vegeta had kept it bottled up, as he was raised by Freeza to be just like him, and eventually Freeza took Vegeta back to Nappa and a survived Raditz. Freeza then briefed them in front of Dodoria, Zarbon, and some other scouts as seen in a small part of the episode 2 flashback that Planet Vegeta had just been destroyed, and yet not one of them had been to the planet in the past 21 years. Freeza then sent the 3 off to concur Planet Shik (as shown in a latter Freeza saga flashback by Vegeta), and after 3 days they had done so. When not being rewarded, Nappa had gotten angry and started talking of people saying Freeza destroyed the Saiyan planet, however Vegeta reveals he already knew that and proclaims to Raditz and Nappa's surprise that he no longer cares and wishes to rule the universe in an eventual over-throw of Freeza. Through the process of the next 2 years, Raditz learns he had a younger Brother sent to a planet called Earth and informs Vegeta and Nappa, and thus takes a year long trip to Earth to recruit Kakarrot. However through-out this, Vegeta never revealed to Nappa and Raditz that the destruction of Planet Vegeta had actually happened 24 years previously, not 3 years as Raditz and Nappa had thoughten at the time of Raditz and Kakarrot's deaths.
Whew, that took quite some dub research, and seems to be the only logic that would make sense in the FUNi writers' crazy little minds.

This was already addressed in an old thread (by Sun_Wukong, no less).
Anyways, this was my reasoning for it...

Funimation has great respect for Dragonball. While these sorts of errors may be lazy, I think it's harsh to say that their approach to the series as a whole has been laziness. They just may not admire the show to the point where they might take that large of an interest in such decisions.DBW wrote:This was already addressed in an old thread (by Sun_Wukong, no less).
