The near-dead Lovely Cyborg shrine needs your help!

Post by number18 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 12:53 am

Hi ya'll. Eighteen here.

So, I haven't posted on the board for ages -- forgive me. As the post title says, I'm reviving my shrine to #18 (link in my signature) ... as we speak!

Most of the other #18 fan shrines (hell, all of them) are dead and gone, and so are the fanfics and fanart that was on them. I've decided to sort of aggregate #18 resources for the revamped shrine, such as links to pertinent DevArt searches and some Japanese fanart sites (pixiv.net being one), but I was wondering if anyone on the board had any recommended places for #18-specific fan media. I'm looking for the usual fanfic, fan art, and cosplay, and any AMVs worth linking to.

I'm trying to avoid just linking to any site that can bear results for an "android 18" search, so please, your faves! Send them my way!

よろしくおねがいします!

Oh hi. Your site, I remember it's quite old. It's great you're planning to revamp it. I don't have anything to actively contribute, but I will say I think it's super cool you're not going to let Lovely Cyborg die off. Inside your fandom's heart is certainly an Infinite Energy furnace. Good luck I hope you get the links you're looking for.

Have you checked out DBMultiverse? There's a big thread in Fan-Works. Right now there's an alternate dimension timeline where Yamcha and Tenshinhan got turned into cyborgs rather than Seventeen or Eighteen, and Yamcha is battling Eighteen from a timeline where they were never absorbed by Cell. Though, she is losing... So I dunno if that's something you'd enjoy.

I enjoy it 'cause I'm a Yamcha fan.

Wow, I am glad you are turning your attention back to the "Lovely Cyborg" shrine after all these years. I still visit it now and then as it is one of the best Dragonball character centric websites around, both during and of course after the peak for character shrines for Dragonball have passed. :D

As for Juuhachigou favoured fan works I recommend one new take on an old alternate universe named "Walk This World". It's a doujinshi version being done by this person on Deviantart 8). Contralto also has an alternate Deviantart account specifically for the doujinshi here. The main site used to be here but it is down right now :(.

I have to add, Lovely Cyrborg, gave me the motivation to make my own shrine Freeza's Headquarters. Of course, Freeza's Headquarters is offically decommisoned entirely at present.. was only hosted on crappy freewebs, and was an ant in terms of exposure and popularity to your site. That is to say, that Lovely Cyborg, if you didn't know, was one of those legendary oldschool dragonball fan sites, that you saw it and you're like "Oh wow, this still exists!"

I hope you can find this as inspirational.

Maphisto! This is so awesome to see Walk This World made into a comic! Right now I am trying to remember what all the iconic, supergood DB fanfics (with #18 in them) of the old era were, and WTW was definitely one of them.

As for other suggestions (and minor accolades! thank you! u_u;;), I'm still trying to figure out if I want to accept/host submitted fan-art and other fan works. If I had my way, I would collect all the super beautiful and amazing images of #18 (and friends) and put them on my site, but I feel that detracts from the original host, not to mention possibly makes it easier for other people to just take and use the images without credit. Am I crazy or is this a valid concern?

This goes for hosting Japanese doujinshi. I intend to have LC be bilingual over time (in English and Japanese), and hosting doujinshi scans might eventually be seen as a faux paus for Japanese visitors. Then again, fan culture in the US and Japan is so different... AUGH!

I think the theft of fan work is a very real problem and I don't blame you for feeling concerned. Then again many sites from all over the world dedicated to various kinds of popular fiction feature such work and as long as you have the original authors permission (and maybe watermark any fanart) then I cannot see it as a problem :D. Then again, these days people could probably plagerize despite all percautions with a little technical wizardry and a healthy, steaming pile of dishonesty. :?

Hey man, all you have to do is ask the artist or author if they'd be alright with it. For other stuff where you can't find the creator, have a well named links page that makes it clear this is stuff from around the net that you've discovered over the years, not your own site's stuff.

I miss all the old char shrines, I hope it goes well.

I read a real good fanfic recently called "Pity and Empathy" where 18 keeps Future Gohan alive and he teaches her about the human emotions and feelings. Might be good for the site.

Hey, if you were still interested in hosting fanfiction, I have a bunch that I'd be glad to have posted at your website. Looking over them, I just realized that every single story features Juuhachigou (also, due to your essay, I'm now trying to switch from writing 'android' to 'cyborg'). And I have several more planned.

Hope you continue to update your shrine. It's good to know that there's still some left out there.

Your site was always one of my favorites back in the day! Good to see it's still around and kicking.
