This is a Kai one. It was so distracting when Nappa uttered that line.
It was "I hate the media!".
Whoops! Thanks for correcting me.

I think you were mixing up abridged with dub Kai... ;)

I have to ask, was that line changed in the Season Sets/Dragon Box dub?

I dunno, man. I kind of liked that line in a way. Maybe that's because it was said before Vegeta's badass ultimate, "Final Shine". I mean... it's green, the charging sound is just amazing, and it's a one-handed blast that just explodes out of his palm.

Plus, I didn't see it as out of character. It seemed like a line of desperation (poker face, if you will) in response to #17.

Me and a friend of mine had such banter over that line.
She went as far to write a short (few paragraphs) fan-fic based on it (for shit's and giggles).

MetalMadness wrote:It's not in this specific thread, but why does the line "Here, you might want to keep it as a back scratcher" get so much flack?

Freeza is a dick. It's a dick line, mocking Nail who is screaming in pain while Freeza is laughing his ass off. I don't see why the line gets so much hate? It's not really out of character, it shows how much of a prick Freeza is... which he is, lol.
Because Freeza isn't a hack commedian who would ever go on, even if he did say the backscratcher line, and keep chuckling at how hilarious a joke it was, and say 'hoho, where do I come up with this stuff?'

LOL U HEAR MAI JOKE GUISE EYE SO FUNNAY

It's not Freeza. I would even go as far as to say your referral to him as being 'a dick' is not quite right - he's an evil, sadistic monster, but that's not synonymous with what the definition of 'a dick' is, at least in any way I've ever heard/used the word. Freeza is very proper and treats even his most evil actions like 'business as usual'. It's not until he's fighting Gokou that he really shows the other side of his temper (not counting a few prior outbursts like when Vegeta stole his dagron balls), and could potentially be labeled 'a dick' (lol Vegeta was gonna die anyways I just thought I'd speed it along because he wouldn't shut up). Prior to that, and the fight with Nail being a prime example (especially since it's the first we really see him getting his own hands dirty, and still treating it like it ain't no thing), he really doesn't act that way. Fact of the matter is he wouldn't, and in fact doesn't, gloat over tearing Nail's arm off. If anything it's more of a 'lol whoops sorry', and certainly not something he's laughing uproariously over. He's not proud of tearing off the arm of a clearly inferior being, it's just something he did. If Freeza had a blog, I really don't think it's a detail he'd even bother including as something he did that day. It's insignificant to him. Having him treat it like it's so awesome that he'd not only crack jokes over it, but proceed to crack up over his own jokes, is just not Freeza.

Sorry for the rant, but Freeza is one of the most desecrated characters in the FUNi dub IMO and it always bugs me when fans treat it like he wasn't altered all that much...when he was. And that's why I'm loving the Kai dub so much, because they're finally getting him right.

Dude, that ruined the bad-ass Final Shine moment. That's the worst of the worst of "hardcore" dialogue the dub added, so bad that it doesn't even bother to make sense. It's like "I know you are, but what am I?" only somehow stupider sounding.

It's not as in-your-face ridiculous as some of the other lines posted here, but really. It's bad, and it stuck out to me when I first watched it in seventh grade.

I think my vote still goes to "Pop goes the weasel". Not only was it not even close to the original dialogue, it ruins the moment.

I remember when I first heard that, I actually hadn't seen the scene in Japanese, and I knew that that was wrong.

There are plenty of bad lines, but that one stands out like a sore thumb to me. Also the "ride um cowboy line" and numerous other Freeza lines. It's like the writers thought Freeza was a woman, or a gay man, who wanted to be a comedian but failed so decided to become the ruler of the galaxy.

Fucking LOLLED at that.

and to everyone's previous comments on the 'pop goes the weasel' thing- ughhh so agreed on that being a terrible line.
I think their 'try hards' on being funny is the most embarrassing thing in the dialogue at times. Like if I had to sit down and watch parts similar to that with a friend I'd probably die in my seat of embarrassment even though I ain't the one sayin' that corny shit.

100% agreed. I remember sometime I was watching the dub with some friends, I don't remember what line happened but I felt embarrassed and immediately was like "Uh... It's not like that in the Japanese version!"

I actually watched that scene of the whole "Ride 'em Cowboy" thing on the Dragon Box and the really sad thing is, it kinda of like Kai's animation..
You had redone lines and dialogue by Sonny Strait and Sabat that are fairly well done (yet still inaccurate) but they couldn't rewrite and get Linda to redub those horrible lines? It's pretty jarring, but that goes for Schemmel not redubbing his lines in Season 3.

Honestly, with some of those lines, If they couldn't get Linda to come back and re do those lines, then they should have just blanked it. I would have preferred silence.

Linda had some of the cheesiest lines to say.
I wonder if she was ever all "WTF???" when having to speak those roles.

I still think that one thing Pauline voiced him in the Ocean dub was the worse though (reason why I never listened to that crap in the first place).
That one part to Ginyu about the 'if you were a cat/dog I'd ect. ect.'.
shit was so fucking stupid I refuse to even quote the correct lines. Seriously do the people who come up with the lines feel no shame or embarrassment for this?
