How many times must this be stated?!

I don't know the details, but it's because of the network requesting the edits. Also, it's not "4Kids' channel", it's their programming block.

Then it would seem sensible to me, to find a network that doesn't demand all there content be made palatable to 8 year olds.Metalwario64 wrote:I don't know the details, but it's because of the network requesting the edits.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
We're pretty much arguing over semantics here; no, 4Kids aren't making the edits personally, but the edits are being made ON THEIR BEHALF, and are most probably being dictated by them.
Essentially, take 4Kids out of the equation and these edits wouldn't be there, so technically these are indeed edits being made by 4Kids. It's just Funi/Ocean/whoever is making the edits doing what they ask.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I know 4Kids isn't editing themselves bla, bla, bla... I do however still call them the 4Kids edits because it's 4Kids telling FUNimation what's OK and what's not OK. When people are saying 4Kids sucks, they make hilarious edits, they ruined another show for kids... isn't that somewhat a valid argument? I mean, FUNimation is only editing it based on what 4Kids say. Right?
I'm not saying shame on 4Kids, I get it, you have to edit it for network television, but I just see these people telling other people they're wrong for calling them 4Kids edits and I'm thinking, are they?

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
But do we know for a fact that 4Kids are the ones making the demands for what to edit/how to edit it? Is the FCC directly? Is the network (which 4Kids does not own but only runs a programming block on)? Is FUNi just given a few guidelines/rules and deciding for themselves what to edit for the sake of playing it safe and obeying those rules?
My point is I don't think we know for sure what the deal is. I despise 4Kids, don't get me wrong. They're absolutely butchered countless series' and they completely deserve the bad rep they have. Nonetheless, I don't think it's necessarily right to jump at their throats over DBZKai, when we do not have confirmation that they're mandating these changes.
People shouldn't assume just because it's airing on the 4Kids block that 'oh 4Kids is ruining another series'...when that might in fact not be the case. I'm just sayin', let's get our facts straight before we launch an OMG @#$% 4KIDS THEY'RE ANIME KILLERS RAAAAAAAAAAAGE attack.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I think it's because we've seen what they edited out of the series on NickToons, then when it aired on Toonzai, a 4Kids block and it was edited even more, what conclusion would anyone come to? Especially when 4Kids is known for this kinda stuff.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:People shouldn't assume just because it's airing on the 4Kids block that 'oh 4Kids is ruining another series'...when that might in fact not be the case. Also, I don't think anyone is going on a rampage about this. I think we all just roll our eyes at the edits now. The argument now just seems to be what to actually call these edits. 4Kids edits? FUNimation edits for network television? Who knows, me though, I'm gonna stick with 4Kids edits.

4Kids specifically said that additional editing was only done because the network wanted it. I don't see how it can get any clearer than that.
Unless you A) think they lied in that interview because they're the evil jerks who ruined One Piece, or B) still blame them for not fighting the CW about the edits.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I don't really know if they're on solid enough ground to be picky like that. Anime is in a tough place right now and the good shows need all the exposure they can get, blue genies and shiny head orbs and all. The CW 4Kids programming block has done well for them, despite the incomprehensible edits. Toonzai's ratings for Saturday, September 4th boasted approximately 225,000 viewers. While Nicktoons, that same day, brought in about 93,000. Nicktoons is great, but its in a limited number of homes. The CW is in almost every home.dan2026 wrote:Then it would seem sensible to me, to find a network that doesn't demand all there content be made palatable to 8 year olds.Metalwario64 wrote:I don't know the details, but it's because of the network requesting the edits.

I went to go see what kind of "contact us" information they had on their site and ironically enough, there is a image of Goku right there. So if you really feel that strongly about this, just email them. You might get a reply, but probably not an answer...

So it's the network's choice then and NOT the FCC's rule? That does certainly clear things up.TripleRach wrote:4Kids specifically said that additional editing was only done because the network wanted it. I don't see how it can get any clearer than that.

As for your "A)" they could be lying just to not give someone paying their salaries a bad rep. Back in the '90s, FUNimation claimed all of the censorship was done according to the rules of standards and practices. It was only after Saban abandoned them that FUNimation came clean and admitted that Saban had been forcing them to censor things even beyond the extent of the rules. Still goes on now with Schemmel and Sabat vehemently claiming, "We hated the old DBZ dub but couldn't say anything about it back then!" Not necessarily saying I believe anyone's lying about anything. I just think there's a more moderate and logical reasoning for someone to believe they're lying than, "They're doing it for the evulz!!!"

Well yeah, that's certainly a possibility. I was just commenting on the fact that people seem so quick to blame 4Kids for everything, and were ignoring/doubting a lot of the people that try to explain that it was the network's decision.Gaffer Tape wrote:As for your "A)" they could be lying just to not give someone paying their salaries a bad rep.
