I understand all about Toriyama's deep involvement with DBO. But it's still not DragonBall to me. Just like Season 9 of Scrubs just isn't Scrubs to me. DragonBall had such a diverse and amazing cast of characters. DBO is just taking the stereotypes that those characters created and applying them to the same world. That's why I'm not a huge DBO fan.

While I haven't played DBO, it seems most of the Time Quests I've been told about focus on Goku centric parts of the story, though there are others based on the other heroes and such. But I think you are forgetting that it's a game and supposed to be fun, we can't have everyone on the internet trying to be Goku and saving the world. =P It is still very much the story of Goku, but it is also a new way to bring the fan into the world. By joining up with our original cast to stop the new villain from wreaking havoc in the past. I mean, it isn't like Goku is totally out of the picture. AND if the game really does bring about an anime once it hits Japan, the series could easily shift the focus to the old cast and new cast having equal spotlight, whereas the game is very much based on the players, because lets face it, it is a game and it wouldn't be fun if Goku did all the work while you just watched.

Really now? I knew stuff in the past would be involved with DBO, but I didn't know it was to such an extent. Thanks for the info, I kind of stopped following DBO a while ago.

If not, I'm suspicious. Would they really have new character designs for a card game? Much less an animation used only for a commercial? There have already been a few card games of Dragon Ball (in Japan and America), I fail to see why yet another one would receive this much attention and hype. Maybe some type of new, D&D-type of thing with cards, but just a regular old card game? NOPE.

By the way, I was certain this was a new series when I first saw it on daizex.com. More and more, it feels almost inevitable that a new series will come in the near-future. Maybe I'm wrong, but after "Yo!! Son Goku and his Friends Return!" and the remade RB2 HD special, as well as Dragon Ball Online, now this, it seems to me like a build-up of some kind... hmm.

I know this is gonna sound all business-like, but I can't see them making a new series--from scratch anyway--unless they know it's going to bring them a profit. Like they would need to know if the hard work they'd put into creating a new series would earn them back enough money to make it worthwhile.

One of the reasons I think Kai was made so on-the-cheap and recycled Z's animation was because they either didn't have enough money to do it from scratch or they didn't think they'd come out of Kai with more money than they started with.


Now would I like a new series? Yes, I would love one, but for me personally it'd have to star the current main DB cast. I don't really care about brand new hero characters; I care about Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, etc.

Agreed. I'm all for new Toriyama concepts with the characters that I love. But new heroes would make it seem like a different series. People get into a series for the concept. But they typically stay a fan for the characters.
