About the future timeline (and a song question)
It was already explained that Trunks defeated #17 and #18 in Cell's timeline (where he killed Trunks), by helping his mother build the Emergency Stoppage Device (the remote control) and destroying them both. As Bulma said in the revised timeline (when Piccolo was fighting #17), if you use the remote control to disable them both, it will be very easy to destroy #17 and #18, no matter how strong they are.
However, I always thought...how it was possible for Bulma to build it in the future? I believe it was mentioned somewhere that Trunks got the blueprints from the past, but didn't he get them only after they knew about Cell? And shouldn't he have taken these blueprints in his first travel there? Because when we see him getting the blueprints, it's already his second travel there.
Of course, maybe Bulma built it from scratch and I'm seeing things. But is there any source that says how he defeated #17 and #18 in Cell's timeline? The in-series explanation is almost nil - Cell only remarks "Trunks must have disposed off #17 and #18 somehow... because I couldn't find them anywhere."
By the way, what's the name of the instrumental piece that plays on those two episodes?
1 - Episode 151, when Cell is running towards #17.
2 - In the same episode, when Cell fights 16 and wraps his tail around him.
I'm asking because I'm playing the japanese Dragon Ball Sparking! Meteor (or Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in the States) for the first time, and the developers seem to really love this BGM... it's used in almost all major battles throughout the game, and even on the final Kid Boo battle.

Re: About the future timeline (and a song question)
Good question. I never really thought about this, to be honest. I always figured Trunks had found a way to destroy them with his own power, but now it seems unlikely. Trunks and Krillin only knew about Gero's secret lab because Cell spilled the beans, so, unless he was doing some random sight-seeing, I don't see how he would've came across it in the future.Dio Brando wrote:It was already explained that Trunks defeated #17 and #18 in Cell's timeline (where he killed Trunks), by helping his mother build the Emergency Stoppage Device (the remote control) and destroying them both. I'm guessing it's always possible that he simply found Gero's regular lab, and possibly came across the blueprints or the remote control there--since everything else seems to imply Cell was unknown to the Trunks he encountered in his (Cell) timeline.
The Daiz stated he defeated them with the remote control, I believe.Of course, maybe Bulma built it from scratch and I'm seeing things. Sorry I couldn't answer the other question.

I've read it on kenisu's page (kenisu.webs.com) as "Piccolo buys Gohan time", from Movie 5, but I'm pretty sure that's not the official name.
Anyway, I saw the remote control bit on the DBZ Encyclopedia.

I'm rather confused as to how Trunks never discovered the location to Gero's lab.
I mean, the one person that had an idea of where it was happened to be the one surviver that he had access to...
Bulma didn't know the exact location, certainly, but with all the time they had, you'd've thought that maybe they'd've been able to find it. Or... maybe Trunks could have gone back in time far enough to search for it in the past, or something obvious like that.
Taking it further... Bulma didn't think of this while they were talking about using the dragonballs to find the lab. Did she have to see Gero's face to remember that rather relevant bit of trivia?

The daizenshuu was the source of the remote control idea. It said that he found the blueprints to the remote specifically (meaning a set different from the ones they found in the sub-basement, which were of #17). It's possible that the four days they wasted trying to catch Cell while he assimilated people were spent trying to find a means of defeating the androids with another remote. They check the debris and, instead of finding the sub-basement, find the blueprints to the remote control itself. Trunks returns with the blueprints, Bulma makes a remote, Trunks takes out the androids.
I partly hate this idea of the remote. It's not illogical to assume they simply relied on getting stronger, such as something else prompting Goku to think of ROSAT. Cell would have killed Trunks regardless, because Trunks would have been powered down when he got the drop on him.

Re: About the future timeline (and a song question)
We've had insanely in depth discussions about things like this before. Check out this timeline thread if you can bear to. But to try to simplify it, the guides claim that there are more timelines than the ones we see--at least three, sometimes four. We only see three in the manga.
1. Our Trunks' future.
2. Our Cell's future.
3. Main series timeline.
The fourth, as far as we can figure, is the one Trunks from Our Cell's timeline creates by going back in time. There's no Cell hibernating in that timeline, so instead of getting mixed up with him, Trunks finds the blueprints for the shutdown remotes and returns to the future. That's where he shuts down the Androids and Our Cell kills him to steal his time machine, which we see briefly in the manga when Our Cell explains his origins.
See the translated page from the Daizenshuu to sort of see what I mean, although I have to admit, they've made it a little confusing in places. The most simple way of explaining it, I think, is to say that the Trunks that shut down the Androids and got killed by Our Cell wasn't the same Trunks we meet.

Edit
omg
sorry.
Posted in wrong topic.
There's a lot of pissible theorys.
The most simple is the "butterfly effect".
The simple presence of cell's cocoon and trunks may cause unpredictable effects.
Other possibility is to think 17 and 18 could be not that evil in beginning.
But being the most powerful in the world may made them crazy.
Trunks was a baby and didn't know them in the beginning.
