It's over 9000!!11!!1!! also other Animes parodied in 'Mad'
...So. I had my TV on Cartoon Network, when suddenly, I heard, "IT'S OVER 9000!" in a female voice. I quickly turned around, and thought, "What?! 9000?!" when I realize I the new 'Mad' show on in the background. The third episode's second part, "Grey's in Anime" was a parody of various anime, like Pokemon, DBZ, and some apparent panty-flashing anime. I'd never think that 'Over 9000' would be parodied in a show on a channel that is mostly 'for' kids now. They even had a parody of Super Saiyan on it
What do you think of this incident? Where else have you encountered over 9000, intentional or not?
One time, in my Algebra class, my teacher was doing an example problem, and he was too lazy to do the math and write down the answer, so, he said, "Well, yeah. It's over 9000. " Only like 6 other people in the class even knew what "Over 9000" was, and we 7 just started laughing...yeah....

As for encounters, it was before the meme died and became too mainstream/overused, but there was that old commercial about making more money where the woman says 'I made over 9,000 dollars'...and I remember in my freshman year of college, I went to stay with my best friend for the weekend at UMASS Dartmouth, and they had a whole bunch of signs up all over their campus proudly announcing having over 9,000 students...she knew of the meme as well and pointed it out to me, and neither of us could decide if it was a coincidence or if some smartass in the school's press department may have chosen that wording deliberately.
But yeah, if it's been spoofed in a television show, then it's pretty certainly dead now, if it wasn't enough already.

That wasn't a troll. The was me who wrote that. I have schizophrenia and actually have 9000 penises.
But as for my opinion on this, it seems timely. Tv likes to pick things up after then internet drains them of their actual worth.

Yeah but on a kid's show? I mean an internet meme about dub that's how old now?Freeza Heika wrote:But as for my opinion on this, it seems timely. Tv likes to pick things up after then internet drains them of their actual worth.
I've actually seen this Mad show and many jokes are some kid's won't get. Not that it's ultra subtle humor it's just some kids won't get the references. Even if they know what they are the jokes about them kids will most likely not get, also some cross the line of a kid's show too.

Something like that happens quite often in kids' cartoons. I think they're called "Parental Bonuses" or something like that. Remember Tiny Toons and Animaniacs had quite a few things that I didn't get back in the elementary school days that I get now.AgitoZ wrote:Yeah but on a kid's show? I don't think you can compare the two.Super Sonic wrote: Something like that happens quite often in kids' cartoons. I think they're called "Parental Bonuses" or something like that. Tiny Toons and Animaniacs you could still enjoy without getting the references. While this you absolutely have to.

Not entirely. I watched this "MAD" show last night, and there were jokes that didn't rely on culture. For instance, there was a skit with a guy trying to pop a zit for about 30 seconds...then it just explodes out all of his insides...which I thought was a bit extreme for a kids cartoon (You could literally see his skeleton/guts floating in the giant pool of puss). MAD has always been on the "edgy" side, though. I'm surprised they got a show on CN at that time slot. I figured it'd be the kind of show that airs right before Adult Swim.AgitoZ wrote:[

I was surprised to see Pedobear in that but at least kids won't get that reference, and that super surgeon bit was funny, especially when the patient said "Where did his shirt go?"

I just watched a few of those episodes now. The show actually had some decent humor, but you need to know some references to get a few jokes in the show. It doesn't really seem like a kid's show, and there were a few moments where old memes were spat out.

But, yeah, it's ridiculously stupid. Just too much unnecessary disgusting jokes/references, but I have heard so many people say good things about it.

That's kinda the lifespan of these things. The hardcore nerd crowed latches onto something and does it to death, midway through its lifespan the normal folk learn about it and do it to death too. The hardcore nerds get sick of it and abandon it so just the casual kids are saying it as the hardcore nerds look on in disdain. Then they even stop saying it and it goes the way of "got any cheese!?". When's the last time you saw the "O RLY" owls, or an "All Your Base" image macro?cRookie_Monster wrote:Dude I just saw > 9000 referenced at work...seems like it's just getting started.
