"Kienzan Discs" was also used in the FUNimation dub. I don't remember hearing "Special Beam of Terror" in it, though.

I'm not sure if the attack has an actual name, but I find it odd that they would use the actual name (minus the discs part) of what they've called the "Destructo Disc" for so long as the name of another, somewhat similar attack.

The other is when he uses the Makankosappo against Gohan when he first goes SSJ 2. He refers to it as "Special Beam of Terror" as opposed to the expected "Special Beam Cannon"...

...Yeah, this doesn't have much to do with them dubbing Kai, but I thought I'd ask it here anyway.
I noticed those...but I'm not sure there are any details as to why those were done. Maybe they didn't like the word 'cannon'? I know they call Beast Wars 'Beasties' up in Canada. >_<

The Kienzan/Destructo disc thing was also in the Funi dub...but not that Special Beam of Terror thing.

Yeah, which never made any sense, since Canada is a lot less strict than the United States when it comes to TV standards and censorship of content. I've heard the word "fuck" said in clips of stories shown on our national news at 10pm.

You can hear it here at about 3.20 in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz1ilCZznd4

That and some of Dale Wilson's ultra hammy performance that I can't help but love. I'd certainly take him over the Funimation Cell any day.

Eh, Dameon Clarke had a better scream. That Cell's scream seemed a little forced.

I just felt like Clarke always sounded like some kind of announcer... Especially when he said lines like "YET ANOTHER FIGHTER..... YOU COULD HAVE SAVED!"

When Wilson had to do the same line, I think he pulled it off much better. Just personal preference... Neither of them really match Wakamoto, considering he's the go-to guy when you need a deep voiced villain in an anime. Then again, that's not exactly something that needs to be stated...

Well, of course, nobody's ever touched Wakamoto in any of the roles he's played.

His voice is less a voice, and more the sound of God's beard in the wind.

My recollection of Wakamoto's Cell is limited... but okie dokie... God's Beard in the wind. lol

Anyways, has anyone asked Scott McNeil or Brian Drummond anything about this? (I automatically assume all popular VA's are on Twitter or Facebook nowadays. ;D)

If they're not in the Ocean Kai... just... rage. I can accept a new Goku, simply because I enjoy Kelamis' little role in Stargate Universe and the alternatives are satisfactory enough for me and I can look past a new (possibly shitty) Goku. But take away Vegeta and Piccolo's voices... ohhhh man...

The Ocean dub of Z also had a rather mystifying line when Cell uses the Makankosappo against Piccolo in their first encounter: "FIRE BEAM CANNON!"

I remember it clearly because that was the exact moment that even my younger self stopped to think about just what was happening. Renaming the attacks is one thing, and not exactly Ocean's fault to begin with, but when they can't even keep their own naming scheme straight...

Ocean Studios have been watching too much of the Portuguese dub...

My opinion is the exact opposite. When I heard that line, I thought "And in other news... yet another fighter, you could have saved!"

My opinion has always been that Wilson had the better voice, but that Clarke was the better actor. Wilson's voice was very fitting for the character, but his delivery could sound downright weird at times. In Theater School, they told us never to just say, "something's good," or, "something's bad," we had to go into extreme detail as to why something worked or didn't work. With Wilson, I have something of a problem in that area because I don't know what to say beyond what I said...he sounded weird. Very weird. Like he was playing a different character than who he was told he was playing.

With Clarke, you had the exact opposite. Whereas Wilson had a great voice but couldn't act as effectively, Clarke had a not-that-great voice but could act reasonably well. He did sound like a game show announcer, that's the description I've been using for a while. He also, however, give a believable sense of anger to the character. Was his overall performance good enough to be fantastic? No. But good enough that his scenes were watcheable? Yes. Especially when Cell got angry, that was Clarke's strong point. When Cell was calm and calculating, Clarke sounded a little too loud. That could be the bad scripts, maybe bad directing, I'm not sure. When Cell was angry, though...DAMN could Clarke do that side of Cell effectively.

I used to have a video on YouTube saved to one of my playlists, but unfortunately pretty much everything Ocean-related has been taken off YouTube. It was a dub comparison comparing the FUNimation and Ocean versions of when Gohan kills Cell. If anyone can find the Ocean version of that event, please post it. Clarke's final scream of anger and disbelief, "BUT I AM PERFECT!!!" is infinitely better than Wilson's read of the line. Wilson almost sounds either stoned or hungover for that line.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Unfortunately whenever I think of Clarke's Cell, I immediately go to the line from the Budokai games where he uses the Spirit Bomb (I've no idea why they gave Cell that ability anyway since he never actually used it in the show...) "Okay planet, gimme that stupid energy!" Admittedly that's a line that I don't think any actor could've pulled off that well.

I think Wilson, with some better direction, could've been a really great Cell. However that's kind of par for the course when it comes to the Ocean voices; if the stories of them constantly changing studios and voice directors are indeed true, I can understand why the quality tended to fluctuate so dramatically.

I think its great news that Ocean Studios is dubbing Dragonball Z Kai so I can watch it on my TV screens in the UK instead of using youtube and other video websites to watch it. Dragonball Z Kai would be most likely to air on UK's Nicktoons and I have the feeling that Ocean Studios will stick to Over 9,000 dub line.

Over-done though that line may be, it will be kind of nice to hear Brian Drummond say it again. After that, it needs to die.

Brian Drummond might use Ryuk style voice but if he uses the evil vegeta voice then it will be best to use over 9,000!!!.

I want to english dub to mension Ki instead of energy.

No, it's probably gonna be on Cartoon Network UK or CITV

Nicktoons doesn't want it (Although, they do have the new Beyblade)
Disney, obviously doesn't want it
CBBC, again, not a fit for the channel
CN, they had DBZ back in the day, but passed on YGO 5d's and Beyblade
CITV, has YGO 5d's, probably best fit, cos they could air them both together at 5pm on Weekdays
