Pilaf in War of the Worlds

Post by Dayspring » Sun Jul 03, 2005 12:00 pm

That's right! A Pilaf doll makes a cameo in War of the Worlds. Just sitting there in a box of toys while Tom Cruise walks by it to talk to his kids once they've arrived for the weekend. It's at the top of the pile on the left of the screen while the camere angle is at knee-level, making it hard to miss. Just thought some of you'd get a kick out of this.

Yeah, Meri and I nearly lost it when we saw him :).

Oh noes! the spoilers!

I'm gonna watch this movie sometime this week, so I'll be sure to look out for it.

Dang it, I saw it, but I didn't think anyone would care if I posted it!

I can see FUNimation suing for that cameo from which they received no royalties.

OR FUNimation paid Speilberg for a small plush cameo, to support DragonBall, FUNimation, and the new DVD releases?
I can imagine that even the Japanese know Speilbergs history, and with a big budget movie like this, I couldn't imagine someone passing up advertisement abilities for their product, if such an advertisemenet oportunity arose. But that's just what I think.

After I saw Tom Cruise on the Today show, I'm refusing to see this movie. Cruise is a total duche bag. Not to mention I HATE Dakota Fanning with a passion. I could even go see this for free, considering I work at a theatre.

Well, no big loss. It's hardly worth the admission price as it is.
And as far as Dakota Fanning goes, she isn't a bad actor for a child her age, it's the films she associates herself with that are the problem; it all comes down to bad taste in scripts.

However you can sympathize with her bad taste, since she's still only a child.

Yeah, but because the actors' off-stage personalities are what determines a good movie. :P

It's well worth the admission. Only the second-to-last ending scene was a disappointment.

Of course offscreen behavior doesnt mean they cant act well, but it CAN mean you don't want to be funding them, its the same reason I didnt see Last Samurai even though I really liked the concept I dont want to be giving Mr. Crazy Cruise any of my money.

You think? It's been my impression that he's only acting the way he is to promote this movie. Not that that makes it any better.

It may be worth admission if you're easily amused, but overall this film was horrible. I'd say it's the worst film Speilberg ever made.

Now that is a decent film. But if you don't want to give Cruise any of your money, go buy it second hand, so he wont get any.

Golly gee, I liked the movie and missed the Pilaf thing. I must fail at watching movies.

I ended up seeing most of it in pieces this weekend during work. I know how it ends so I dont see the point in sitting through the whole thing. It looked like a decent film, but I still dont like Tom Cruise.

On a side note, the credits give props to Toei for Sailor Moon, but I dont remember seeing anything for Dragonball. BTW, what scene was Sailor Moon in, was it the same one?

I dunno. Maybe. Pilaf was about as big as Meri's "Bubba Trunks", whereas the other toys were the size of regular toys. The only kiddy thing I recognized was an Spongebob on tv.

I saw the movie this weekend (had quite a few problems with it, and I'm usually pretty forgiving of movie flaws) and I missed both the Pilaf and Sailormoon stuff :? Seeing those things might have redeemed it a little!

Maybe since both Sailormoon and DB are connected to Toei, they just gave one credit to cover both of them.

Or, they're ignorant enough to call DB Sailor Moon :?
