A Suggestion!
A Suggestion!
Hey Mike!
I've always wanted to have the opportunity in either praising the content placed, or merely leaving a message of insight. Or in extension, adding little tidbits to the news post within the comments section.
Consequently, I was wondering. Have you ever thought about placing a comments section below the news posts on the front page?

Re: A Suggestion!
I think VegettoEX's system is not automated. I think he manually enters the code for each update. The index page appears to be plain ol' HTML. To implement a comment section would require an entire site overhaul or at the very least, an ugly iframe. An overhaul is not something I would be against, but I don't think VegettoEX has either the time nor the drive to do such heavy work for no real advantage. We discuss important news items here on the forums anyway.
As long as we're making suggestions. I'd like a post voting system. Similar to Digg or YouTube. If we like a post, we can vote it up, if we dislike it we can vote it down. If posts get conistently voted down, then the user should probably be banned. *caughcaugh100xcaugh*
In other words, I'd probably vote up every single one of TanookiKoriboh's posts.

I'm also in favour of an overhaul. The design of the main site looks a bit dated to me.Innagadadavida wrote:I think VegettoEX's system is not automated. Re: A Suggestion!
Most people use AJAX instead of iframes these days. I find it much more convenient. Besides, why would that be necessary for a comment system? As it is, every page on the site reloads the entire layout, and there are a lot of them. Would the extra pageloads created by comment pages really be that much of a problem?Innagadadavida wrote:I think VegettoEX's system is not automated. When did I say anything like that?ThunderPX wrote:Would the extra pageloads created by comment pages really be that much of a problem?
Re: A Suggestion!
Isn't that the reason people use things like iframes or AJAX in the first place? There's no obvious inherent connection between having comment pages and using an iframe, so I assumed that's what you were talking about.

Re: A Suggestion!
I don't think there is much of a reason. Typically we already have a thread for said subject on the forum. If it's anything related to the update itself somebody could always just as easily make a thread here in the Website Discussion section and title it after the update that they want to comment on.

Re: A Suggestion!
Nah, I meant a separate page for updates that uses PHP or what-have-you then iframing it on index, in order to have a functioning comment system without changing the HTML-made site much. It was the only way I could think of to have a working update page with comments without an entire site overhaul. And I tried to make it clear that I thought that was a bad idea too.ThunderPX wrote:Isn't that the reason people use things like iframes or AJAX in the first place? People would abuse the hell out of this and you know it. I would abuse the hell out of it. That said I'm all for it.Innagadadavida wrote:As long as we're making suggestions. Re: A Suggestion!
A simpler way of doing it would be to just manually create a comment thread for each update, like what is already done for the podcast episodes.Innagadadavida wrote:I think VegettoEX's system is not automated. But again, as you said, there's little reason to do so, since the news he updates with are the very things we discuss here on the forum anyway.
