Uh...it's FUNimation's fault for allowing them to air it, y'know...LeprikanGT wrote:4Kids: The Death of DBKai.

*Sigh* You're right....sort of.
4kids needs to lighten the $%^&* up about edits.
And shame on Funi for letting someone do that/air that on TV. I want to blame in on the money, but that's not a full excuse.

Well, that's nothing new at least. They did the same thing back in '96.PuppetDoctor wrote:Well I was watching the latest episodes of Dragon Ball Kai today and noticed that 4Kids digitally opened up Gohan's eye which was injured from Piccolo's training. Then when I saw this scene I couldn't stop laughing.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
it just makes me think, what are they going to do when things REALLY start getting brutal.
I seen to remember an ENTIRE horn through Krillins body and then Frieza in 3 or 4 pieces. I don't see how they could skip that entire 2nf Form Frieza scene...unless that was filler. Are they just going to give Frieza a few scratches and an ouchie and only show him from the waist up?

If "Bomb" is too violent, then how about "Genki Dama"? =PTanooki Kuribo wrote:JulieYBM just said on his Twitter that the Spirit Bomb is going to be called the Spirit Blaster?!

Well, it is and it isn't. What's funny is how FUNimation did it for the broadcast version back in 1999. When they trimmed it down (to Freeza impaling Kuririn and then flinging him off into the water), they basically left what had been in the manga. The anime version prolonged it for a third of an episode. So basically, what was suitable for CN back in '99 was exactly what was canon. All the gratuitously violent elements were all additions. Granted, I too have a hard time thinking about how this new team is going to be able to get through things like that. Actually, how did the real Kai do that scene to begin with?LeprikanGT wrote:I don't see how they could skip that entire 2nf Form Freeza scene...unless that was filler.

It's not 4Kids that requires the edits, it is the FCC. Basic cable channels are stuck to certain standards and laws.LeprikanGT wrote:*Sigh* You're right....sort of.

Basic cable is not held to FCC standards. Broadcast television is. And unless things have gotten much stricter since the '90s, this is far beyond what the FCC requires. Remember that the original dub of DBZ was admitted to be held to stricter standards than the FCC, and that this dub is censored even more heavily than that.

It's not the FCC that is the problem. CW's Standards and Practices board decides what's okay for the channel, and they seem more picky than their Nicktoons counterpart.Gaffer Tape wrote:Basic cable is not held to FCC standards. Well, then I have to assume it is by the will of what the TheCW will allow in the morning programming.Gaffer Tape wrote:Basic cable is not held to FCC standards. Broadcast television is. Of course, there is the argument to be made that 4Kids is just doing this for the lowest common denominator. The less 'violence' the more parties they can sell the product to.

Thats what I have been wondering...the FCC and cable vs non cable and all that. I'm sure the Saturday morning show on whatever channel, is in the usual cable right? But Nicktoons is something that was in a seperate package I had to purchase. Do you think if the show was on a Satellite station the US would be able to air the only slightly editted Japanese version?

TheCW is NOT cable! It's broadcast television.
Anything on cable, whether premium or not, can choose to air whatever kind of content they want to. They choose to censor themselves to appeal to a certain demographic. The Nicktoons version is not censored because of some government body requiring censorship. It's censored because Nicktoons wanted it be censored.

"Genki Dama" is obviously too Japanese for American children. We're lucky Goku didn't have his name changed to "Gary"?

True, but wouldn't you think "Kamehameha" would sound Japanese to Americans? I know its the name of a Hawaiian king and all, but "Kame" means "Turtle" in Japanese... so...SaiyamanMS wrote:"Genki Dama" is obviously too Japanese for American children. The derpiest lil' Gohan. I wish I could find the Saban version of this edit to compare it with. The whole "Spirit Blaster" thing is great too. I wonder if there is going to be Nicktoons Vs. CW4kids playground debates arguing about whether or not Popo is blue or if it's "Spirit Bomb" or "Spirit Blaster". Is it kind of sad that the most exciting thing happening to the franchise in my life is waiting to see how badly it's going to get butchered each week?

Spirit Blaster? Really? Despite being a dub term, Spirit Bomb sounds pretty cool. Spirit Blaster on the other hand, sounds like a rejected Yu Yu Hakusho attack.
