Hell Ogres

Post by Sun_Wukong » Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:09 am

I find this really funny. FUNI decided to keep Hell on the Ogres t-shirts but they never once mention it in the episode. Its now referred to as the "underworld".

Heh, when Rurouni Kenshin was on Toonami a while back, they said hell quite a few times.

When Kenshin was on, every now and then, there'd be a word that the censors forgot to cut out or over. So you would on occasion hear a "damn" rather than it being covered with "darn" or "blast".

The only time I've heard 'hell' in DBZ is in the first movie after Garlic Jr hits Ox King, and Chi Chi says 'what the hell do you want' or something like that.

The refer to it in the later episodes as 'you know where' or the underworld.

HFIL... they should have either left it or rubbed it off the whole T-shirt, would have saved them the hassle of changing the letters all the time.

There were a few other times they used the word "Hell" in the dub. In the uncut version after returning to life on Namek, Vegeta thinks to himself, "Maybe I didn't come back to life. Maybe this is Hell." Also during the Afterlife Tournament saga, they refer to it as Hell, including one funny scene:

Grand Kai: Listen Pikkon, I need you to go straight to Hell for me.
Pikkon: Yes sir.
Goku: That's not very nice.
King Kai: He's the Grand Kai. He can say whatever he wants.

Also in that same movie, later on Scott McNeil's Piccolo has some great dialogue to Garlic Jr. and he mentions hell.

"When I finish with you Garlic, you'll wish you were dead. You'll be helpless. Try to imagine how it will be to live unable to do anything with all that power you possess. Then you'll know what hell is really like".

Some of the stuff they let go in the Toonami versions of Outlaw Star (and occasionally the Tenchi series) shocked me beyond belief.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

I missed that ep of Outlaw Star, and I heard that in the reruns they caught the "objectionable" stuff and edited them. "Hot Springs Planet Tenrei" was still gone. I remember a while back I read a thing that mentioned what was basically ok and not ok on Toonami and Adult Swim. Though now that I think about it, does anyone else find it kind of weird how for the most part, swearing isn't ok on CN during the day, but "Antz" and "The Iron Giant" is kept in? Or is there just a bias against swearing in anime?

When I saw Antz on CN, the swearing was edited out. Don't know about Iron Giant.

In the first episode of Garlic Jr's return the first line he has is something about him being trapped in a frozen hell.

That ep? During the first run, every episode had at least one swear word, not to mention the first episode used the words "shit" and "bastard".

CN has Gundam Seed, right? How edited is it? YTV has "shit!" "damn!" and "you bastard(s)!" galore. Not to mention a healthy amount of blood splatter each time a human is shot. We even got to see Nickel get sliced in half and Toll get crushed alive.

They havent aired it in a while. But considering it was on Toonami, I think it was pretty edited.

The "midnight run" block of Toonami would air Gundam Wing uncut back in the day, but the morning run was edited.

They shafted the show by airing it at 1 AM. A time when not a lot of guys are up.
