I had a feeling if for some reason that Spirit Bomb got censored, which it did. I knew they'd call it the Spirit Blaster. Hey, at least they're being consistent with what they did in Pokémon when Team Rocket used bombs.

Dunno what you guys were talking about, but I heard Spirit Blast all morning. Eh, they should have followed suit with the Kien Zan and skip the whole Spirit Bomb/Blast nonsense and just kept it as Genki Dama. I mean the same kids watching this are the same kids playing Super SF4 with HadoKens and Kikkoshous being tossed left and right.

Man, I also noticed when Goku was revived they actually said 'Your Ball of Light is gone!'

Yep. Though the change remeinds me of something I heard happened with Digimon Savers. Apparently there was a bomb digimon, but Toon Disney (which at this time still skipped 2 Spider-Man episodes because of buildings crumbling and blowing up/on fire) told them to change it or they were skipping it, so they were forced to change it to being an Orange digimon.

Yeah, they turned BomberNanimon into "Citrimon" Because a Walking Orange throwing Oranges is less horrible than a walking bomb throwing bombs, even if both destroyed things.

Some censors are just ridiculous. It's not even like he was a realistic bomb, he was a large round bomb with a fuse, like the 50s cartoons.

So, I thought 4Kids learned after the disaster of One Piece not to get shows if they would have to butcher them. Spirit Blast, Blue Popos, re-edited Eyes...ridiculous.

It is absurd. I have to wonder why they even bother.

The sad thing is, in ratings the CW broadcast is getting over three-times the views as the Nicktoons broadcast.

That's not an issue of censorship, that's an issue of availability. More people have CW than Nicktoons. It would have done better (and gotten less censored) on CN. But, CN seems to hate everything that brought it success years ago.

I know the reason. I was just pointing out that its unfortunate the butchered, nonsensical version is what's getting the most views. And I doubt DBZ Kai would have done better on Cartoon Network. That station has really put its animation in the back seat in favor of soul-less live action programming. Just look at Pokemon, a multi-million dollar franchse... they play it at a 5am death slot, for God's sake. A has-been fad (in their eyes) like Dragon Ball Z would have got worse treatment.

Nicktoons plays DBZ Kai every day. Multiple times. For such a story-heavy series, its important to get reruns so that new viewers get many chances to see it from beginning (using that term loosely) and others can catch up if they miss an episode. Also there's, like, a 50% chance if you have Cartoon Netowork, you have Nicktoons. And than number is getting higher and higher as many cable service providers are dropping Cartoon Network from their basic package.

Cartoon Network just isn't the same. What cartoons it does have left are just screaming, and I can't imagine them getting another anime if they play Pokemon at 5 a.m.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, the up-coming Young Justice, Ben 10 and the sequel shows and others say otherwise.

Playing Dragon Ball on Cartoon Network is going to add to what little screaming the channel has, not alleviate it.

I agree, CN's not all bad. Those shows are of the action good, and stuff like Chowder and the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack can hit the kid's show comedy spot, if the mood's right.

I mean, if only Fox still had their kids' block. Fox was far less restrictive in Standards and Practices. A 4Kids rep even said in an interview that CW made them censor stuff past what they'd already done to air on Fox.

I think some networks still think it's too soon after 9/11 to have buildings blowing up, bombs, and the whatnot airing on cartoons aimed at kids.

Who cares what version kids watch on TV? At least it's not the Saban days and, for a decent price in astounding quality, you can get the real thing legally if you want to.

Both of which are canceled by the way.

But they do have Adventure Time and Regular Show to take their place, both of which are way better than Flapjack or Chowder. Those are the only two shows on that station that I'm interested in. But I really really like them.

Adventure Time's cool, I really don't enjoy Regular Show at all though. Mystery Inc on the other hand is the only variation of Scooby Doo I can enjoy. So yeah CN is more in shape then it was at least.

Erm...but none of them can stand up to Dragonball!

I just realized. If "Spirit Bomb" won't even fly, my guess is "Galic Gun" especially will be a no no for Toonzai standards...I won't be surprised if it becomes "Galic Ray" or something.

I gotta say...there's be so much less for them to edit if they kept these things in Japanese. :p

Also, about what Chris Ayres said about 4kids using sound-alikes in New York to record replacement lines for the Toonzai airing, I think I may have found one example as proof:

http://www.4kids.tv/show/dragon-ball-z-kai

Go to "The Million Mile Snake Way" and carefully watch the part at about 2:20. I swear that's Sean Schemmel filling in for Sonny Strait as Krillin saying "Please! Come on, wake up! wake up!" The DVD and Nicktoons version has him saying "Please, you can't be dead!" instead.

Any chance you could provide a clip of said line that those outside America could watch? I'm vaguely interested in checking it out? :P

Oh wow, it really is a different VA for that line. O_O
That's kind of disconcerting to the ears if you've heard the dub enough to recognize it's a different voice actor.
On hiatus.
