Really, it's the perfect ending to the saga. The hero disappears, and it's up to you to decide what happened. Is he dead? Is he omnipotent? Who knows?

Really, it's the perfect ending to the saga. The hero disappears, and it's up to you to decide what happened. Is he dead? Is he omnipotent? Who knows?
Yeah. And I'd also say the meaning behind it goes something along the lines of Son' no longer being around to save the day, those who yet live must rely on themselves to save the day, if misfortune rears its ugly head.

Actually, he made a bargain with the dragon. His life for the wish that everything would be restored to the way it was, so I guess it is a symbolic death in a way.

I think it was Goku's life energy in exchange for a wish that wouldn't create negative wish energy, or whatever the hell it was that created all those evil dragons. But I don't know for sure, so really there was never much point to me opening my big mouth. :P
