Not it couldn't. This is a movie. They can't and they shouldn't stick to the source material.

Just like in the original story Goku assimilated his dormant Oozaru power and blow up Piccolo with it. Before that he wasn't a match to Piccolo.
If the fight wasn't cut off we would have seen Goku being completely owned by Piccolo, at the point his punches didn't do anything harm to him and even seen Piccolo putting Goku's head through a freaking wall.

Shouldn't stick to the source material? Yeah ok, I'm guessing you really enjoyed this movie then huh?

Spider-Man didn't stick to the source material, and it made like a billion dollars.

Neither did Transformers, and the sequel is far worse than DBE is.

So the quality of a movie adaption is largely, if not completely, independent of its faithfulness to the original material.

Cutting anything from this movie wouldn't make it a good movie. Unless you cut everything but the beginning scene with Goku fighting Gohan. That was somewhat enjoyable.

Now I wish the kids from South Park had saw DBE instead. It could have been Goku on that pinball machine.
I think DBE would need to be fan edited / interwoven with another movie all together.
