Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
As much as we (well, most of us) hate to admit it, FUNimation shot themselves in the foot when they didn't include their broadcast track. I believe that's the main reason why that pseudo-remastered crap still sells way more than the Dragon Boxes.

Fine by me. They can have their crap dub. As long as I inexpensively get what I want I'm cool.Toriyama-sama wrote:As much as we (well, most of us) hate to admit it, FUNimation shot themselves in the foot when they didn't include their broadcast track. Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
Well, they could always discontinue their season sets and force consumers to start buy the Dragon Boxes. The only fan that would intentionally seek out the season sets (via second-hand stores) would be dub-trackers or widescreen...ers.

And casual buyers who aren't concerned. Which is a group of people that far outnumber fans like you or me.JulieYBM wrote:Well, they could always discontinue their season sets and force consumers to start buy the Dragon Boxes. Re: Dragonbox Volume 2
Well, I think his point is that casual consumers wouldn't be bothered to go to any trouble to seek out anything. Thus, they'd just buy the Dragon Boxes if they were the only thing available.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Ah, Gaffer Tape beat me to sending in my reply. Just by a hair, too.
If they're not concerned I doubt they're going to go out of their way to hunt down a canceled line of releases at second-hand retail as opposed to the release still on shelves at the major retail stores.Innagadadavida wrote:And casual buyers who aren't concerned. There's no reason to worry about such things. The "average consumer" will soon be the kids and teens watching Kai that never grew up with Z.

Or it could be that the people who were buying the orange bricks already had a few in their collections and had no interest in having a half-complete set, only to start over with a new set of releases.Toriyama-sama wrote:As much as we (well, most of us) hate to admit it, FUNimation shot themselves in the foot when they didn't include their broadcast track. That and the orange bricks are basically being phased out from most places, or generally being marked down heavily.

Yeah I do see a lot less of them, but my Target and Wal-Mart's still have them in, and I believe between both stores you can get almost the whole series. My Wal-Mart has 3 of the Dragon Ball season sets (1, 4 & 5), and DBGT: The Complete Series. I have to travel about 30 minutes to get to a store that has the Dragon Boxes.Tsukento wrote:Or it could be that the people who were buying the orange bricks already had a few in their collections and had no interest in having a half-complete set, only to start over with a new set of releases.Toriyama-sama wrote:As much as we (well, most of us) hate to admit it, FUNimation shot themselves in the foot when they didn't include their broadcast track. They're a given, though. They generally don't carry a whole lot of anime aside from mainstream animation. And even then, they don't carry everything related to them. I've yet to see the Dragon Boxes in either location, but do they sure have quite a number of orange bricks and GT sets leftover.DB_Fan1991 wrote:Yeah I do see a lot less of them, but my Target and Wal-Mart's still have them in, and I believe between both stores you can get almost the whole series. Still I was surprised to see the Dragon Ball season sets there as most casual fans (including a few of my friends) don't even know about the original series.Tsukento wrote:They're a given, though. Davidism does have a creditable source. His sources info was outdated. Davidism is very big into anime. He has his own forum, blog and podcast. I believe his source was from Roberts Anime Store. Don't quote me on that. I think what happen was as many smaller retailers (who got less copies) started asking FUNi for more copies of DBox #2, FUNi's initial reaction was "They're a limited release and there wont be more printed" As time went on and they continued to receive more and more calls from more major retailers that they were also out of stock, FUNi decided to produce a second print. Davidism's source did not have the information that you obtained from FUNi so, they weren't aware of the current situation. I assure you, both Davidism and his source are both overjoyed by the production of a 2nd print. Davidism will be able to buy the DBoxes much easier and his source will have more copies to sell as well.Kendamu wrote:This guy is like, "There's no demand for the boxes. They've been discontinued LOL! Kai is selling more!" but I'm seeing DBox 1, 2, and 4 sell more than any Kai release on Amazon. Something seems fishy.TripleRach wrote:That's pretty much how I feel about the matter. I don't know who this person on the FUNi boards is, so I have no reason to believe they're a credible person with industry sources. Maybe it will turn out they are, but I just don't blindly trust the words of complete strangers. And while I'm not a marketing expert, I don't understand why such a thing would be sensitive information in the first place. What would FUNimation or retailers have to gain from not telling their customers that items have been discontinued?OutlawTorn wrote:Unless I see a FUNimation representative state the Dragon Boxes are discontinued, I'm disinclined to put any stock into what any "anonymous" source of a member on FUNimation's forum has to say on the matter. The credibility of such a source can only be measured by the credibility of the member who posted the info.
What I do know is that FUNimation insisted the Dragon Box sales were fine at the summer conventions. They also gave an "early 2011" release date for Dragon Box 5 recently. So I'm still confident that they'll at least finish the series.
FUNimation is supposed to have a panel at NYCC/NYAF this weekend. If anyone in the New York City area wants to attend and try to ask FUNi about the Dragon Boxes, that would be swell. Since they don't seem to be giving many answers online.

I'm not saying that he's not on the up-and-up or that he's trying to troll. I just said something was fishy. That could be a lot of things. If I really thought that it was Davidism being a troll or something, then I would've directly called him out in the thread about the Dragonbox saying so instead of saying (in that thread) that his source was doomsaying a little early.craddle wrote: Davidism does have a creditable source. I've been wanting to buy these boxes for a while now. I have a chance to get them for $10 each, but I haven't gotten the chance to go to the Mall lately. I'm also held back by the fact that I already own the entire series. I'm not really the type of person who likes to have the same thing twice, but it's so tempting. I'll probably budge eventually.
I also need to get the Double Features. I don't know why I stopped collecting DBZ stuff. But it's that time of year again where I get the DBZ frenzy.

Amazon and RightStuf appear to be out of stock again. The saga continues.

They did. @AnimeToday on Twitter specifically told me so at one point. I checked right after and remember there being eleven copies.MajinVejitaXV wrote:My mistake. I thought RightStuf had them back in stock at one point.
