Silver is the Trunks of the Sonic universe?

Post by LeprikanGT » Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:17 pm

Does anyone else have 'Sonic the Hedge Hog' for the PS3?

Silver the hedgehog appears out of nowhere and becomes all badass and is talking about destroying someone to same the future of the world...and even sort of sounds and acts like Future Trunks. [the dub Trunks]

Kyle Reese sure is a popular character.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Yeah. That's how a friend of mine thinks of him. He also says Sonic is the "Son Goku" of Sonic the Hedgehog and that Shadow is its "Vegeta".

I'm a big Sonic fan too.
But stop.

IMHO, Silver is one of the most annoying Sonic characters created. His voice is annoying, his mission is annoying and his purpose is annoying.

In fact whenever anyone mentions Silver the craphog I watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkkhj4rOrh0

Future Trunks was supreme bad-ass both in his opening debut of going SSJ, killing Freeza, and his standoff against Goku. Admittedly when the Androids showed up he was a tad whiny, but he was still kick ass. And when he returned to the Future and anally man handled the Androids and Cell he was just all kinds of awesome.

Silver is soft IMHO. His mission resembles Trunks' but he doesn't have the same Bad-Assery that Trunks does.
Shadow is definitely the Vegeta of the series and my personal favourite.
Sonic is also the Goku of the series no doubt.

The similarities are uncanny. 7 Chaos Emeralds, 7 Dragonballs. Both can grant wishes, bring people back to life yadda yadda.
Otaku at heart.

Kyle Reese may be the only fictional character to be younger then his own son.

In order for Trunks to really be like him, he'd have to be younger than his (non existent) son who had sent him (paradox).

Oh come on, no mention of the obvious?

I think everyone and their grandma knows where the inspiration for that came from.

Growing up, I never had a Nintendo, I had a Sega. Sonic was my Mario, always been a fan of the series...until it started to suck, IE almost everything since SA2...

Wait, chaos emeralds can grant wishes and bring people back to life?
Since when did they do anything beyond keeping the Floating Island afloat and helping characters reach their super forms?

I actually knew the Sonic games since 2nd grade. Dragon Ball since 10th. So I was kind of shocked at how many aspects Sonic borrowed/took from DB.

I have not played a lot of the newer Sonic games, but I am aware of Silver. No opinion on him though.

Angel Island is based off North Kaiou's planet.

This thread has turned into something almost entirely different now. Mwahaha.

Nope. In fact, there's a whole article on them!
http://info.sonicretro.org/Chaos_Emeralds
And according to that article...
Even individually, these strange jewels can channel miraculous powers unmatched by almost anything in the universe; enabling their possessor to manipulate time and space, as well as unleash incredible destructive forces. Collect all seven and a miracle's supposed to happen.
In short, they ARE similar Dragon Balls, but they don't grant wishes and cause an incredibly long dragon to appear.
Man, this thread really went off-course...

DBZ bootlegs have the movie 9 cover with the pioneer movie 2 description on the back and the disc actually has a Japanese soap opera in MEPG2.

Sonic the Hedgehog 06 spoiler below:

Sonic dies in the final part of the story in the 2006 game. Everyone gathers the Chaos Emeralds and they bring him back to life.

So...the Chaos Emeralds can do whatever Sega wants them to do at this point, I think.

The Chaos Emeralds are more like the Infinity Gems than the Dragon Balls.

The game retcons itself at the end anyway.

Other than being an endless supply of energy/magic, we aren't told if they do anything specific. Rouge claims in SA2 when all seven are together, "a mircale happens," and that is literally the most specific information about them, other than the obvious "there are seven, and they are all different colors." It's pretty lazy writing, heheh.

I will give them this, though. On the surface, without doing any serious digging such as this thread, The Sonic series is a pretty reworking of Dragon Ball.

Just checked out part of Silver's story, he had a destroyed future and alternate timeline and everything. I've only ever played the side scroller sonics[ 1 2 3 and the new 4], so this one is pretty interesting.

I think I read somewhere one time that Yuji Naka was a fan of DBZ?

Or was that information false?

Anyway, the similarities between Sonic the hedgehog and DBZ really are uncanny.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Knuckles yet. I see equal measures of Piccolo and Kami in him.

I was thinking that when he first showed up as to who he would be, since Vegeta is taken I could see him being Piccolo.

I know like all the timeline and characters of DB and pretty much ZERO about sonic stuff aside from the old school side scrollers so it is interested to see this 'world' open up and see how it compares to DBZ.

Is there a Canon line in Sonic games? I know like the allstar tennis are random side games aren't part of "the story" but is this a continuation of the story since it is just called Sonic the HedgeHog...and no subtitle?
