Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
I dunno. Maybe it's just that he's like Buffaloman, and can make his horns grow or shrink at will. I mean, he is boasting the whole million Power thing. (Okay, 1,000,000 Power is Warsman's territory, but that's splitting hairs in this comparison.)

...I don't see the problem. It's still been implied that Krillin has been impaled by Freeza, the horn just doesn't go all the way through his body. It was a smart edit IMO and I'm glad they found a way to keep the scene without any problems.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
That was going to be my other point. I mean, Kinnikuman did it that way. Okay, Buffaloman may not have necessarily been trying to put his horn through Kinnikuman, and he does make it go through Warsman. But Warsman is a cyborg, i.e. not going to bleed from it, whereas Kinnikuman will, and that could be considered too gory. Either way, you know the Long Horn is in him (oh, Matron...), and you don't need confirmation by it sticking out of him.

I agree, I thought it was well handled and could have been done worse (I.E the original dub's broadcast version.)Lum-Chan~ wrote:...I don't see the problem. Did they still leave the shadowed shot of Freeza and Kuririn accompanied by the awesome guitar riff? Right at the end of the episode.
That's easily one of my favourite moments in Kai.

Agree completely. Viewers of the Nicktoons version who know nothing of the original are still going to understand what just happened, here - Freeza charges at Kuririn, and suddenly Kuririn is frozen in pain, with Freeza's head - and brand new, really long horns - nestled in his gut, grinning evilly. Gohan screams in rage. Pretty obvious that he just got gored, and has a horn buried in his stomach. We don't need to see the horn protrude through to get what happened. They showed the important violent act without 'playing it safe' and removing it entirely. You absolutely cannot assume they'd have shown that scene untouched. Compared to what could have happened, I'm very pleased with how well this was edited.Lum-Chan~ wrote:...I don't see the problem. The guitar riff is there, but the episode ends on Gohan saying "You monster!" rather than on the shadowed image of Freeza impaling Kuririn in the sunset looking image of Namek.dan2026 wrote:Did they still leave the shadowed shot of Freeza and Kuririn accompanied by the awesome guitar riff? That's easily one of my favourite moments in Kai.
Interesting things I noted about the next episode preview:
-Kuririn's small blood spray as he falls is edited out (obviously)
-After kicking Freeza, the punch he delivers to his face is cut out
-Gohan blasting Freeza in the face is cut out
-Gohan's rapid blasts of energy after Freeza's been knocked to the ground is pushed further in
-His "Move out of the way!" shout, with Vegeta being surprised and Gohan punching Freeza's gut take the above's original place
-It ends on several shots of Freeza because...
-The beating Gohan receives, including Freeza stepping on his head are cut out (oh boy)

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
Just watched the stuff I missed last night (the beginning of the episode) on the Nicktoons website; Nail's blood was painted green. Still looks like blood to me, maybe some under his eyes looks like tears, but eh...if it's not red, why bother? Purple to green just seems silly. Not like they erased it and made it the same as his skin, you can still plainly see it...
Edit: Whoa, if I didn't mishear, I think I just caught something odd...right after Freeza is finished transforming, we cut to Gokou in the healing tank for a second. After his line, and before cutting to Piccolo, it sounds like...Masako Nozawa!! Do my ears deceive me, or do I hear her making a few grunting sounds for a second after Schemmel's line?!

What the whole 'fight' is gone?Tsukento wrote: -The beating Gohan receives, including Freeza stepping on his head are cut out (oh boy)
That's like half the episode literally.

You must be hearin' things. To be honest, I'm not sure how it'll play out in the actual episode. Guess we'll have to wait until tonight.dan2026 wrote:What the whole 'fight' is gone?

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
Censorship created a small inconsistency: Kuririn's armor was edited to appear intact when Freeza impaled him. The holes only appeared after Dende healed him.
I can see their parachutes.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
Yeah, I imagine it'd be annoying to continue to censor the back of his armor for the entire rest of the shots until he dies, but it would make more sense. He can have a hole in the front; we know he got impaled even if we didn't see it, but the back should be intact...unless, maybe the horn broke through the armor offscreen some time before he was chucked into the water?
(I wasn't paying enough attention though, maybe it was still painted over at that point)

This is true, though it's also worth noting that Toei was also largely inconsistent on how large the hole was and whether it was on the side of Kuririn's stomach or directly in the center.GizmoKSX wrote:Censorship created a small inconsistency: Kuririn's armor was edited to appear intact when Freeza impaled him. Did anyone see Krillin's magically appearing 'horn hole' in his armor when he shot the destructo disc? Way to pick and choose edits.

Also annoying how they went back to Destructo Disk. C'mon you guys... KIEN ZAN! Tai Yo Ken!!! This is probably the final time DBZ stuff will be dubbed, do it right already. And do even the games get ki right sometimes and yet the show STIIL doesn't use the MOST USED WORD IN THE SERIES.
Anyways, wow, a lot of censorship, I swear, every single hit was censored out. Freeza stepping on Gohan's face. I don't get why Vegeta blasting Freeza was cut out since its not like the blasts impaled him or Freeza actually took any damage from it. And there was a scene earlier when Gohan hit Freeza or something and you heard Vegeta's voice yell out 'WHAT?!' off screen. What the hell was cut there?

I have to say that while I know stuff was cut, and some of what was missing (like Freeza stomping on Gohan), I didn't notice it while I was watching. It felt pretty seamless to me. I really love it when that happens - if the show has to be censored for broadcast, so be it, but it's done so well that more often than not you can't even tell what you're missing. Compare that to some of the shit pulled during the Saban days, or what we see going on with the CW edits...on the whole, the Nicktoons censoring is impressing me.

Safe to say they will use the correct names on the uncut release.Coola Yagami wrote:Also annoying how they went back to Destructo Disk. C'mon you guys... KIEN ZAN! Tai Yo Ken!!! Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!
You know, I have a theory that sometimes the reason for the inconsistency with attack names may be the dub's fast production schedule. Chris Sabat mentioned several times on his Facebook that they were under huge pressure to get the episodes dubbed and ready in a relatively quick time frame. Some of you may recall that people were dissapointed that "Tri-Beam" was still in the show instead of "Kiko-ho." Somebody asked Sabat on his Facebook page what was up with it and his response was, "Sorry, I don't know what happened with the Tri-Beam thing." So, In the haste of things, it's possible that certain "edited" attack names end up in the uncut release or vice-versa. I suspect that the reason for the fast production schedule is so they can get the episodes dubbed and ready so that they may be handed to Nicktoons, so that way whatever executive board makes censoring decisions can get back to FUNimation with their notes.ohaimynameiserik wrote:Safe to say they will use the correct names on the uncut release.Coola Yagami wrote:Also annoying how they went back to Destructo Disk. That's my one theory. The other theory is this: all of the attack names that haven't been translated back to their real names have, so far, have been used as part of an episode title. It's possible that FUNimation simply didn't bother to create alternate episode titles--an "uncut" title and an "edited' title.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Frieza stepping on Gohan's face was taken out in the Z broadcast too. Actually, stepping on people's heads were taken out all the time.Coola Yagami wrote:Also annoying how they went back to Destructo Disk. C'mon you guys... KIEN ZAN! Tai Yo Ken!!! And is using "Destructo Disc" such a bad thing? Never had a problem with it.
