Ocean Dragon Ball Z in the UK
Ocean Dragon Ball Z in the UK
Hello
I am wondering if there is anyone in the UK who would be nice enough
to tape or digitally capture Ocean Dragon Ball Z episode 108-167?
I which happen to live in Canada, we do get the Ocean dub as YTV
switched from FUNi to Ocean around 2001/2002, and ever since
then I've enjoyed watching it.
Now the problem is, the only reason YTV switch from FUNi to Ocean,
was that YTV was pissed off at how FUNi was treating them.
FUNi was not giving YTV the same treatment as they were giving
Cartoon Network in the US, and they weren't sending their Dragon Ball Z
dub tapes to YTV at the same pace as they were with Cartoon
Network.
With that it leads me to my question. Because of YTVs FUNi to Ocean
switch, YTV has only aired the FUNimation Dubbed episodes of episodes.
But Ocean dubbed episodes of 108-167 have only been aired in Holland
and the UK.
One reason why I really want these Oceans episodes, are that they
"Ocean Group" are the original enlish Dub voice actors, as well they sound
more talented than FUNi's replacement voice actors will ever be.
The other reason why I really want these Ocean episodes, is that I am
working on a non profit Video Collection of every single Ocean dubbed
Dragon Ball Z episode.
As far as I am concerned, the Ocean dubbed Dragon Ball Z episodes
are the best english dubbed version of this series in existence, and I am
trying to catalogue every Ocean dubbed episode in existence so that this
dub will never disappear into oblivion.
I believe that nobody should be forced into only being able to watch FUNi's
lack luster dub if one has the same opinion of FUNi Ball Z, so I am building
this collection for an alternative option for other people to watch.
If anyone in the UK could possibly help me in my sticky situation, I would
be grateful if I could get my hands on those episodes.

The problem is there are no Ocean DBZ DVDs, and there most likely will belost in thought wrote:I hate to be a downer, but I doubt anyone would be aloud to talk to you about that. Sorry.
and Ocean DVD released.
So it isn't possible for me to buy this.
Like I've said above, I have no plans for making money on Ocean's hard
work on dubbing this series, and I think people should beable to see the
wonderful work and vocals they did for this series.
But if the mods or Admins tell me they don't support trading episodes, then
I have no problem with this topic being closed or deleted.
I thought I would take a chance and ask which doesn't hurt.
But if this kind of topic isn't support on this board, and get closed.
So be it.
I only ever once found an ocean episode of the Cell saga long ago. I really don't think you'll find them anywhere, you're better off recording the sound from your tv or something and trying to mix the sound file with a Funi DVD you bought or something.
Those episodes arn't uncut anyway, not to the full I mean, certain clips with blood are left but when the blood is flowing like when Kuririn makes a hole in Vegeta on Namek, it's edited out.

FUNimation has exclusive rights to DVD releases in North America.lost in thought wrote:I hate to be a downer, but I doubt anyone would be aloud to talk to you about that. Sorry.
Ocean could never release DVDs; they would be in competition with FUNimation's DVDs anyway.
Once again, this is a non-profit project. It is just a way of compiling the Ocean episodes for long-term preservation, giving people the chance to see them and not to let Ocean's magnificent work on episodes 108-276 be forgotten.
If infact CN:UK does air Ocean episodes 108-167 again at some point in the future, could you help out in any way?Sonsaiy wrote:Sorry, can’t help you even if I tried.
Toonami aired the last episode last week and then rather than starting at the beginning, went back to the fusion saga.
So with only two episodes per day, it will be quite a wait till they get to the episodes you want.
I'm not in any rush to get these episodes.Sonsaiy wrote:Sorry, can’t help you even if I tried.

All I care about is being able to to know that they will be recorded on VHS,
DVD, or captured on a computer, and that when the time comes, I'll finally be
able to digitally capture them, or have them to complete my set.
If you would be interested in helping, I'd like to chat with you.

dagame10k, is there any particular reason why none of your sentences stretch the full length of the screen? It's like you're purposefully throwing a line break somewhere in there.
And for the record, it doesn't matter if this is for-profit or not-for-profit... it's still illegal, I will not condone it, and I'd prefer if you brought the discussion elsewhere.

It looks more natural than the oh so wide phpbb line length.VegettoEX wrote:dagame10k, is there any particular reason why none of your sentences stretch the full length of the screen? It's like you're purposefully throwing a line break somewhere in there.
Like I said, if you don't condone this, simply close it.VegettoEX wrote:And for the record, it doesn't matter if this is for-profit or not-for-profit... it's still illegal, I will not condone it, and I'd prefer if you brought the discussion elsewhere.

Keep in mind that some of us have the admin screen on the side (which reduces the width), many aren't running 1024x768 (which reduces the width)... so please leave it at the defaultdagame10k wrote:It looks more natural than the oh so wide phpbb line length.
For the most part, this isn't a "gimme gimme gimme" wankfest, so I don't particularly want to go around closing it all... but if it comes to it, I shall.dagame10k wrote:Like I said, if you don't condone this, simply close it.

I don't really understand how it is 'illegal' when there was never any money to be made off of Ocean's made-for-television-only dub. Sure it's copyrighted property, but it will never be legally released in any form. Believe me when I say that if it was, I would have bought it long ago.VegettoEX wrote:And for the record, it doesn't matter if this is for-profit or not-for-profit... it's still illegal, I will not condone it, and I'd prefer if you brought the discussion elsewhere.
I too am a huge supporter of the "buy what you want" philosophy that you have. The problem here is that there is no way to buy these episodes.
This thread isn't meant for that anyway. We're just asking for assistance.VegettoEX wrote:For the most part, this isn't a "gimme gimme gimme" wankfest, so I don't particularly want to go around closing it all... but if it comes to it, I shall.

If you'd like an example, the show was paid for by the advertisers, in all reality. You're not even acknowledging the advertisers (I doubt they're included in any downloads you'll find), you're not buying any of the products advertised that helped fund the show... and so on and so forth.
A simple "You don't own the episodes" sums it up more than anything else.
Asking for illegal things in a polite manner is still asking for illegal thingsVegettoEX wrote:This thread isn't meant for that anyway. We're just asking for assistance.

Then in cases like this, there really isn't anything that can be done, is there?
You've met with some of FUNimation's people in the past and been in contact with others, correct? Is there any way of finding out whether FUNimation had anything to do with Ocean's independent dub (besides providing the edited video track)?
okay, can doVegettoEX wrote: Keep in mind that some of us have the admin screen on the side (which reduces the width), many aren't running 1024x768 (which reduces the width)... so please leave it at the default.
As far as the thread goes, I don't plan on putting any episodes download think up as it would constitute as spam, and I also don't have any place to put episode online.VegettoEX wrote:For the most part, this isn't a "gimme gimme gimme" wankfest, so I don't particularly want to go around closing it all... but if it comes to it, I shall.
Like my friend Andrew said, we are just looking for assitance. We are just wondering if there are people who would be willing to help. Stuff like trading will be done personally, and not through this thread.

That still puts me in the unfortunate and unwilling position as being a central location for the distribution, in at least an indirect way. You're all nice people, so I'm not going to flat-out be a dick about it, but I'd greatly prefer that this kind of thing wasn't on this forum. Thanks for understanding.dagame10k wrote:Like my friend Andrew said, we are just looking for assitance. We are just wondering if there are people who would be willing to help. This is your website, and it's more than fair for you to not want this kind of activity on here, but just for the record (since dagame10k lives in Canada), it actually is legal.VegettoEX wrote:And for the record, it doesn't matter if this is for-profit or not-for-profit... it's still illegal, I will not condone it, and I'd prefer if you brought the discussion elsewhere.
Trading (in any form) is perfectly legal in Canada. This includes burning/recording, as well as downloading via P2P, etc. As long as you're not selling it, you are protected. In return, the Copyright Board of Canada puts fees (taxes) on items such as MP3 players, blank CDs/DVDs, and any other type of recording device.
Um... YTV shows funi eps since when? Every time they do the Saiyan Saga it's Ocean now.
DBW: You're half wrong. Trading is legal only if it replicates the current promotional practices used by the original owner of the material. That's why MP3s are legal here: it's provided for free on Music TV channels and the radio where everyone can tape it, so it was made legal here.
EX: Since Canadians would be trading Canadian material (Ocean's in Vancouver) there'd be absolutely no ties to you through the forum under American laws. Silly, stupid laws. All it does is promote everybody and make it so small, local bands can get international recognition.

Dragon Ball Z episodes 54-167 on YTV were of the FUNi dub. Ocean Began dubbing Dragon Ball Z back in 2000 starting with episode 108. The dub first showed up in Holland and in the United Kingdom.Dayspring wrote:Um... YTV shows funi eps since when? Every time they do the Saiyan Saga it's Ocean now.
Even though the Ocean Dragon Ball Z was dubbed in Canada, YTV continued getting FUNimations dub of the show up untill 167 in which they felt FUNi wasn't giving them newer episodes as fast as they were giving them to Cartoon Network.
Episodes 167 and 168 are the turning point, there after episode 168 was the first episode of the newly dubbed Ocean Dragon Ball Z that aired in Canada, and ever since, not a single new FUNimation dubbed Dragon Ball series episode has ever been aired on YTV.
I have always hoped that YTV would switched dub versions of episodes 108-167 to the Ocean dub, but sadly my wish never came true.
I also hoped that Ocean would one day dub the Frieza Saga which in my opinion is the best Dragon Ball Z which FUNi totally destroyed.
But sadly that wish will most likely never be granted either.
