Again: since when does be a good movie is a requisite for being a box office hit or vice-versa?
SSJSteve wrote:The only reason those type of comments got made was because the film looked bad. You can't blame the fans for that.
Sorry, no. Goku not being Asian or Piccolo without skull appendages aren't logic reasons to people bitch about. What about people already saying the movie is going to suck even before the film had any visual information? Isn't that fans' fault? Sure it isn't...

Yes, but what made that worse... the first real trailer. If those fans, the ones hating on it had seen an amazing film trailer I'm sure they would have changed their minds. "Oh, this actually looks quite good, I thought it would suck". :)

Actually the trailer made more people into the film. At least in the boards I used to go people thought the trailer was pretty good. At least better than they thought it would be.

My primary concern was with the audience reception both before and after the movie's release. How much money it made was only a secondary mention.

Look, here it is as simple I can made it.

Both Star Trek XI and DragonBall: Evolution had people complaining about them before they were made. When Star Trek XI actually came out in theaters, most people liked it because it was a good movie. When DragonBall: Evolution came out, most people didn't like it because it was a bad movie.

...Actually, THIS is as simple as I can make it.

Lots of movies have people complain about them before they're even out. But in the end people will still like good movies and not like bad ones.

That only strengthens my original opinion: the "fans" doomed the movie.

You just didn't. That usually happens in real-life.

And if, even after having this all explained to you, you're still deluding yourself into believing that, then there's nothing more that can be said to you.

It didn't matter what a few people thought about it before. What mattered is how most people felt about it after.

For what it's worth, I like the casting of the Bulma person. (' _ ')

I haven't seen DBE yet, but I have a feeling that I will like it when I see it.

I own the movie on DVD, and Blu-Ray. I also own the PSP game, Posterzine, and Junior Novel, so I have an interest in the movie. In fact, I enjoy the movie. It's not a good movie in any regards, as it doesn't explain any of its plot points, and is really rushed, but it's still a movie I can have fun while watching. I don't mean mocking fun either, I mean actual fun.

Me too. Unlike other fans, I was perfectly fine with her not having all blue hair.

The actor for Yamcha is the only actor that I like the most in the movie since I feel like he did a good job on playing as him.

I like Dragon Ball Evolution for what it is. It's screws up the story, but hey. It's a Dragon Ball movie and not a Dragon Ball Z movie. Dragon Ball movies never follow the original plot and go off in their own direction whereas Dragon Ball Z movies use what has been established up until that point and go from there.

Movies are hardly ever a shot-for-shot remake of its parent source, so I never expected DBE to be. I liked it for what it was, and after seeing the Chinese and Korean DB movies, in my humble opinion DBE is probably the best live action DB movie. It's probably all we're going to get.

Talk about damning with faint praise.

I was cautiously optimistic about it until shortly before release. I knew it would be inaccurate, and probably cheesy, but I thought it might at least be tolerably fun. Then the first trailer came out, and that looked terrible. Then the movie came out, and it was terrible. It was terrible because it was a cheaply produced formula film where you could tell that no one cared. The fans had nothing to do with this one; it was obvious that their opinions, negative or positive, were never part of the equation anyway.
