That is exactly why it was a rushed job. It wasn't animated from scratch. The producers just took the original footage, remastered it and removed the filler. Sure, they had to compose new music and recording new voices. But the time it takes to do that, is nothing compared to the time it takes to animate the show itself.
The project's budget wasn't enough to reanimate the whole thing and hire an entire cast of veteran voice actors. Sacrifices had to be made to make the show possible. That doesn't make it a rush job. A rush job implies that they rushed the project out the door to get it done. For all we know, they take all the time they're allowed, just like any other project, considering what it is they're doing.

As I said before, you're making no sense.

It also implies that they cut corners to finish the product. Which they did. They didn't animate the series from the ground up. All they did was remaster and cut out the filler of a pre-existing series. Toei had the budget. This is evident when you look at all the other series they've done. They only wanted to save a lot of money and a lot of time.

It must be nice to be from the future.
You are hilarious XD

Also, I really enjoy both of the experiences. I've actually grown to really love the Kai musical score. I actually prefer it over the original score.

EDIT:

Also, so far, I've really enjoyed Ryo Horikawa's performance as Vegeta far more in this than in the original. I think he is doing a much better job this time around.

The original 291 episode-filled version, definitely. Kai's just a mess all over the place (pacing, redrawn scenes, and the unimpressive, new voices).

No, it doesn't imply that they cut corners. It implies that they had a certain amount of cash to spend and they had to spend so much on the cast that they couldn't make a 130-150 episode series with completely new animation. If they could, why wouldn't they? It's not like PtEtSS is a re-cut PtEtS.

The answer is that the production team didn't have the money for it!

I can't make it any simpler for you. What I'm saying is based on words from the production team. If you're going to reply with something like, "That's absolute proof that they cut corners," then I don't know what else to say to you because you're simply not listening to reason. Unplug your ears and stop talking in circles, already. It's got old a long time ago.

Bullshit. Toei is one of the biggest and most successful animation companies in Japan. They are currently doing completely new animation for shows like Digimon, Pretty Cure and One Piece. I find it hard to believe they couldn't give Dragon Ball the same treatment (which arguably has a bigger fanbase). Face it, they took the easy route.

I'm sorry, but what. On what twisted hellscape world is Z's pacing better than Kai's?

"Better" is subjective. Kai's pacing is faster than Z's. Whether or not that makes it better (and whether it remains consistently so from one part to the next) is up to the beholder.

Well, the kids who didn't see Z seem to love it. I have never seen a post on the Nicktoons forums saying that Kai would be better if they stood around more and if Bulma went on stupid side adventures.

I didn't say it didn't deserve to be loved. That doesn't necessarily mean the pacing is better or worse, though. Nor did I say I think Z is better than Kai. But even if the faster pacing is what's drawing a lot of people in, that doesn't objectively make the pacing better.

I wasn't really getting at you. It's just that what you said reminded me to bring up the point that we're not the only English-speaking fans in the universe. I just wanted to make the point that today's kids seem to love it.

No, I get that. Believe me, I do. I just admit I get tired of people saying that Kai's pacing is better and treating it like objective fact. It's perfectly fine if people think it is better because it's faster, and in a lot of ways it does work. But don't forget that the early episodes of Kai were certainly paced fast but were an absolutely mess. Sometimes it works better to take one's time, so faster doesn't necessarily equal better.

I say, "Kai's pacing is better," all the time. I just figure that the people I'm talking to are smart enough to realize that I'm speaking my opinion on the matter. If you were to disagree and say, "No, Z's pacing is better," I'd see it as an opinion despite the fact that you didn't state outright, "HEY, EVERYONE! THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY! PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS AS IF I THINK IT'S A SCIENTIFIC FACT!"

So, no reason for you to worry about such stuff. If you start getting banned from chat rooms for not strongly preferring Linda Young, for not thinking that the Dragonbox is the most truly evil thing that FUNimation has ever done to Dragonball Z, or for liking the real score to any capacity whatsoever then you might wanna start worrying a little...

...about how dumb the people you're chatting with are for banning you for not being a Yes Man.

In a series where 95% of the content is characters fighting, a faster pacing is most certainly better. If Dragon Ball was some intellectual series with deep meaningful conversations I might buy the need for all the "suspenseful" stare downs and pans etc.

Otherwise, it's nothing more than a waste of time, and it's boring.

No, that's not what I mean. I've constantly defended people on this very board when they're lambasted with, "YOU DIDN'T SAY IT'S YOUR OPINION, SO I AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME IT'S NOT AND WILL FLAME YOU FOR IT!" Yeah, it pisses me off when people do that too. But on occasion I get the vibe from people that faster=better, broad brush, no exceptions, similar to how other people say 16:9>4:3 just because. And I know just from some of your posts today that that annoys you. So that's kinda the same thing I'm talking about.

Oh! :o

I get it!

Okay, okay, okay. I totally get what you're saying. Seriously, though, if I've learned anything from the discussions you referred to that I took part in earlier, it's that if they're acting that way then they're not really worth listening to or reasoning with. They're just gonna do their thing and it won't matter to any of us that they're doing it because it's not hurting anyone.

I find Kai to be very sloppily edited. There are times where it's just glaringly obvious when something's cut, and sometimes it seems like some scenes are actually sped up.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
