I thought it meant someone who acts like they know something about Japanese culture (And acting Japanese, as if it's their race, copying their culture, which they have no idea about) , when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

From my experience, dubbies(for DBZ) come off as, well, dub-centered weeaboos. They like it because it came in English. "Aspect ratio? Accuracy? Whatevs, bro, I don't have to read!"

But alas, this type of talk never goes on smoothly.

This is one of those rare instances where living in a less populated area of North America with a fairly low interest/awareness of anime DVDs compared to other places can be beneficial. I only have the first 2 boxes, so I am slightly worried, but I am positive that my local best buys, future shops, hmvs etc. have multiple copies of all the boxes, I can comfortabley know that I will be able to get my hands on a copy of each, as it will take a LONG time for them to go out of stock around here.

Kendamu wrote:It's all spin. They always meant to produce less because the demand was going to be less. Now that their plan has had a slight misfire, they're trying to use "Limited Edition" to make it sound like it wasn't an issue of underestimating demand.
If so, that bodes well for future releases of Dragon Box material.
TonyTheTiger wrote:"Limited issue" as a term itself is stupidly vague. Even the mass produced singles are "limited issue" in the sense that now they're not in production anymore.
Absolutely. Lots of "limited" releases sit on store shelves for months or years without disappearing. Even if the sets aren't being printed anymore, we don't know how many were made.
I can see their parachutes.

You know when I was listening to the recent podcast, I was thinking.
While the "DRAGON BOXES" in Japan were "LIMITED" the prints in reality weren't, ala the Dragon Box singles, so I can when I think of it that way, we could see thin-packs with Dragon Box footage.

Can you imagine the dub trolls ((I repeat, "Trolls")) are celebrating thinking this is a victory of the FUNimation's dub and remastering of DBZ over the original, "better" version?

You know, something like this?!

Deliberately starting a sub/dub war, are we? Imagine if someone posted a derogatory picture on this thread, about sub fans. All hell would break loose, I can tell you that.

Not that watching cartoons is a contest to begin with, but how does what is essentially a "collector's edition" beat a standard release by being around longer? That means that people who preorder games and get bonuses "lose" against people who get no bonus.

I don't think people care as much about whether or not this particular release "beats" the orange bricks. I think everybody has made peace with the orange bricks being far and away the better selling product if only by virtue of them coming first. I think what matters is that even if the orange bricks remain on store shelves, they won't be the basis for any future releases.

Knowing FUNimation, DBZ will continue to be a profitable property even after Kai is long done with and I doubt any of us would be surprised if each new video format, be it Blu-ray or whatever else the future holds, sees its own DBZ release. So the lingering question is what footage FUNi considers the "true" footage.

Unless there's some really draconian limitations from Toei on the DBox footage, I can't imagine the orange brick footage ever seeing the light of day again in subsequent releases.

As for whether the current Dragon Boxes will be difficult to find down the road, I doubt it. They surely printed tens of thousands. Any less than that wouldn't even be worth it.

If this was a real question the answer is some webcomic which really had nothing to do with socially retarded Japanophiles.
(Mentioning of which if you guys haven't checked out this hilariously relevant webcomic do so. http://gunshowcomic.com/ac/
In fact this page is my favorite and extra relevant http://gunshowcomic.com/ac/part3/ )

On topic, the childish part of me is wanting this product because now I can't have it but in reality I'll probably never really watch it if I do buy it.

I don't think people need to rush out and go buy the boxsets..(Though i'm not saying you can, great way to help the series :P)

But just keep in mind that over time there going to be harder and harder to find. Especially if you don't live next to a place that stocks them.

This better not turn out to be one of those "If your not fast enough... thats too bad". Each box better be on the market for the same mount of time & a good quantity produced.

If specials are to be packed into box 7 or spread out between the last three, this added value will make em sell out fast as chips.

I don't think anybody is seriously suggesting single releases, rather just pointing out that following the Dragon Box releases in Japan, they were followed up with singles using the Dragon Box masters.

What FUNimation will likely do, is put out a release (whether it be seven boxes or nine, etc.) which uses their Dragon Box masters and economical packaging. It's incredibly common to find box sets which have the discs in single or double thin cases within the box, like Kai and Brotherhood as well as releases like Naruto: Shippuden.
