Brazilian Portuguese Dub Confirmed (UPDATE: OP and ED)

I'll update this as I grab more news, but since I covered some news on the Mexican Spanish dub, I figured I'd do some digging around and see what I could find out about other dubs. Apparently, the next country after Mexico to get a dub of Dragon Ball Kai will be Brazil. They have begun recording and will air the dub--on Cartoon Network, no less--beginning in early 2011.

THE GOOD NEWS: They are keeping the original title of the show, "Dragon Ball Kai," without adding a "Z." This suggests that they may be getting access to the original source material, rather than the Mexican dub, which is apparently going to be based on the English dub.

THE BAD NEWS: Similar to the Mexican dub, lots of actors--including actors for the main characters--are getting recast because they could not reach a financial agreement with the dubbing studio. So far the recast characters include Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Yajirobe, and Freeza. For a while even the original Goku was not going to come back, but he, in his words, "had a long talk," with the dubbing studio...and the talk must have yielded positive results, because he is coming back after all. So, perhaps the blow will be softened since at least the main character will be portrayed by his original actor.

It really seems like we English dub fans have it good as far as keeping the original cast. So far our dub of Dragon Ball Kai has the least recasts.

10/29/2010 UPDATE: Because DB_Fan1991 is awesome, he has found a video on YouTube which apparently has the official Brazilian Portuguese version of "Dragon Soul"--translated with English subtitles, no less! I think it sounded good, and the lyrics are, as DB_Fan1991 noted, NOT based on the FUNimation English version of "Dragon Soul." This, along with the fact that the show will be keeping its original title (no "Z" in it whatsoever), strongly suggests that the Brazilian dub will be getting access to the original Japanese version for translation purposes, unlike the Mexican dub which will be using the FUNimation English dub as their basis for translation.

10/30/2010 UPDATE: Okay, so this is actually pretty cool. Not only did they make a Portuguese version of "Dragon Soul," they actually also made a full version of "Dragon Soul." From the info I've gathered, the director of the Brazil dub is on good terms with a Brazilian anime news site called JBOX, and released a "test version" of the opening theme to the web site, sung by Rodrigo Rossi. What exactly does that entail? Well, they had the singer for the Brazilian version of "Dragon Soul" sing the song over the karaoke track found on several Kai CD releases. This is a "test version," for preview purposes. So, loosely speaking, there is a full version of "Dragon Soul" in Portuguese. Since this is the test version, you can still hear the Japanese background lyrics (most notably "Dokan! Dokan!" in the background), but still, full versions of anime songs in another language are rare, so this is pretty cool. The version that DB_Fan1991 found is the official version that Brazil will see used on TV--it's shortened down to 1:30 just like the Japanese TV version, and the Japanese background vocals are removed (replaced with Portuguese background lyrics). "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!" is also available. So, what we have is...

No It doesn't.

I'm an English dub fan but I'm not a Funimation dub fan. I would've been happier if most, if not all of the Funimation cast were replaced for their Kai dub. I'm a fan of the Ocean Group dub which, needless to say, is an English dub. So therefore we "English dub fans" don't know if we've got it good untill the Ocean cast for DB Kai is confirmed. Hopefully all or most of the original Ocean cast returns for Kai.

If you want to snap at someone regarding you statement, the least you could do is make sure your statement has some sort of validity.

This is the Brazilian Portuguese version of Dragon Soul. The lyrics are definitely not translated from FUNi's version, but they made a mistake and sang Dragon Ball at the end, and not Dragon Soul.

I thought I noticed a resemblance, too. I'm not sure why that is, but apparently these lyrics are indeed the official songs. The singer, Rodrigo Rossi, has done Portuguese adaptations of other anime songs before (and for the actual shows, not on his own like Anghelo did). Some of the official Brazilian Portuguese Saint Seiya themes were sung by him.
