Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
I fail to see what the comment has to do with GT's canonicity at all...

Akira Toriyama = Manga-ka /creator of source materialChibi Mystic Gohan wrote:I fail to see what the comment has to do with GT's canonicity at all...
Akira Toriyama + GT = HAPPY HAPPY LETS ENJOY
Akira Toriyama: "GT grand side-story of DB." = X
Akira Toriyama = Manga-ka/creator of source material + X(the comment) = Verbal con-fir-ma-tion of GT being a part of source material?
That's the point of this thread: to discuss whether after all these years was GT technically a part of the original/Toriyama-canon(CHRIST, that sounds like an attack).
I would've made this reply using 100% less natural smart ass, but after the three posts you made in this topic contributing nothing, you had it coming.

Apparently not. Seriously, guys, quit with the silliness.SonEric84 wrote:VegettoEX wrote:Folks, please cut out the nonsense posts. If you do not have something to bring to the table, you do not have anything worth posting in the first place. There is so much to be discussed in the original topic idea and off-shoots from that... I simply can't comprehend how you can go off-course so badly and have nothing to say.

Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
Can I contribute to the topic only if I'm in total agreement with you or something? I'm just saying that it seems like you're only seeing what you want to see, in Toriyama's comment. He simply called it a "Grand side-story." How does that translate to "This is the official continuation of my manga series"? The show barely makes sense as a continuation of the DBZ anime (for instance, it features many movie villians in the Super #17 that couldn't possibly exist, due to continuity errors in the movies). And of course, there's the fact that the villians in hell have bodies still. How can DBGT possibly mesh with Toriyama's manga with all of those anime-exclusive characters and ideas?NeoKING wrote:Akira Toriyama = Manga-ka /creator of source materialChibi Mystic Gohan wrote:I fail to see what the comment has to do with GT's canonicity at all...

And remember, a criticism of Dragon Ball GT is not a personal attack. No need to get so worked up.

Because DB itself has like, zero plotholes and inconsistencies.
And I don't see why you couldn't just say all of that instead of trolling "Omg people actually care about GT? Like, why does this thread exists?"

I never said the thread shouldn't exist, I just think it's silly to debate so heavily about a single statement that Akira Toriyama said. Do you need DBGT to be recognized as canonical to the manga that badly?

Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
I recall that when this comment by Toriyama first came up, it was being treated as evidence that GT was non-canonical.
When it comes down to it, though... what's it matter?
... *sigh* and why is this thread more dramatic than it needs to be?

Fine, fine, end of thread. Don't you just love it when people try to propose some interesting discussion and then other people just kill the entire purpose? At least they belong to Toriyama. Why in God's name would you willingly invoke Aya Matsui's misunderstanding of the series? Just because you like it?NeoKING wrote:Because DB itself has like, zero plotholes and inconsistencies.

It doesn't really change that Dragon Ball GT's are far more prevalent in number and in interference for the fandom.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Thank you. I was waiting for someone to say this.NeoKING wrote:Because DB itself has like, zero plotholes and inconsistencies.

He means it is supplementary. Superfluous, secondary, not integral.

Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
Not sure how to break it down any simpler than that. It's a Dragon Ball story, but it isn't apart of the Dragon Ball story. It is of lesser "importance" and "relevance."AnimeMaakuo wrote:What do you mean?

And I know that's what he meant because I have an incredible knack for "reading comprehension!"

Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
Why? It doesn't negate anything that I said. The manga universe and the anime universe are two very different things. (For instance, Freeza and Cell vs. Goku in hell couldn't happen in the manga.)Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Thank you. Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
I wasn't trying to rebut anything you said. I was simply agreeing with NeoKING, in that the Manga also has it's fair share in inconsistencies.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Why? It doesn't negate anything that I said.
I wouldn't say "very different". Compared to other Anime, Dragon Ball is really accurate to it's source material.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote: The manga universe and the anime universe are two very different things. (For instance, Freeza and Cell vs. Goku in hell couldn't happen in the manga.)
Re: Is GT REALLY Non-Canon?
GT isn't canon to the Manga because it references lots of Anime-exclusive plotlines. Villains having bodies in hell, the existence of the Tuffles, and so on. If you want it to be part of the canon, it cannot be with the Manga. We don't need to argue over a vague statement by the author who probably doesn't care about canon to begin with.
