Re: Bitch I Look Like Goku
So even if a person making "music" has absolutely nothing to contribute to the art, and actually further tarnishes the name of a misunderstood genre, I'm supposed to respect that person because they're successful? No. You crazy mang.Raki wrote:I don't really care for Soulja Boy's catalogue of music to be fair. But I do respect the fact that he self marketed himself in stardom. I respect his hustle and the fact that he made a song about a few of his favorite manga/anime characters. That's how references work in most rap songs(been listening to the genre since age 2. I'm 21 do the math.). I never understand blind rage against Soulja Boy, at least nowadays. Yes his music has no lyrical value but at least he's improving the quality of life for himself, his friends, and immediate family.

Re: Bitch I Look Like Goku
Nothing Soulja Boy does can dismiss the value of hip hop. Soulja Boy can only tarnish his own legacy, whatever that is.The sea of great artists from the early 1970s to now is too deep. Not to mention if you know the genre, you know where to go to get thoughtful representation of that genre. Like I respect DeAndre Way in the same way I respect ICP. ICP came from nothing and made a living from themselves by marketing themselves. While most of their music sucks I respect the hustle. Soulja Boy serves an important example to independent artists of every genre, and that is you don't need to be pimped by the corporate machine to get initially known. He's another example in the long line of rap artists who had no backing(Master P sold his tapes out of his trunk on the side of the highway) and became known on their own.Innagadadavida wrote:So even if a person making "music" has absolutely nothing to contribute to the art, and actually further tarnishes the name of a misunderstood genre, I'm supposed to respect that person because they're successful? The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I respect artists with success plus talent. Actually, I respect artists with talent. I could care less about their success.

No. I don't respect the fact that he self marked himself in stardom with some one-hit wonder about supermaning ho's. I disrespect the fact that he's tarnishing the name of hip-hop. People deserve success when they're actually talented, and the fact that he's improving the quality of life for himself, his friends and his family by continuing to make his disgusting music and disgracing the music industry (and even further than that, fueling the stereotype that all rap songs are just about gangsters, drugs and crime) makes me sick. How on earth can you respect a man like him? Just because he made a song about manga/anime suddenly makes him redeemable in your eyes? The day I show Soulja Boy respect is the day he gracefully steps out of the music business forever.Raki wrote:I don't really care for Soulja Boy's catalogue of music to be fair. How in the blueness of hell does one fuck up the entire rap game? I don't get it.
Like Raki, I also respect the fact that he came from absolutely nothing to where he is today. Even if I didn't like his music, I can at least respect him.

Because a lot of people lump together idiots like Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane with the others as being hip-hop artists, and those people will then believe that that's what hip-hop is supposed to sound like. Want to hear good hip-hop? Go listen to Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. or Jay-Z--real hip-hop artists that don't just write stereotypical rap lyrics glorifying crime and drugs.mysticboy wrote:How in the blueness of hell does one fuck up the entire rap game? It takes a lot of work for anyone to attain success. He does not deserve respect for working hard. That's his job. He's doing his job. Do I deserve respect for ringing up your grandmothers' items at the grocery store? No. That's my job.
Re: Bitch I Look Like Goku
Well see that's the thing. You don't have lump Gucci Mane with Jay Z you know the difference. Another thing, Hip Hop is a cultural movement; rap is merely what you do. And please, for the love of God, don't compare SB's or GM's lyrics to Pac, of Biggie. Neither Soulja Boy nor Gucci Mane are lyricists. Their music is for teens from the South that like to bump their heads to something. Doesn't take complex lyrics to achieve that.Piccolo Daimao wrote: Because a lot of people lump together idiots like Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane with the others as being hip-hop artists, and those people will then believe that that's what hip-hop is supposed to sound like. Ok. Don't respect him then. Just continue disrespecting him for no reason.Innagadadavida wrote:It takes a lot of work for anyone to attain success. He does not deserve respect for working hard. I'm not comparing Soulja Boy or Gucci Mane's lyrics to Tupac or Biggie's. My point was people in general, who, perhaps, don't know much about hip-hop, will automatically assume that, listening to people like this on the radio or TV (which typically play mainstream music), this is what hip-hop is supposed to be. I know the difference, but I know for a fact that some other people do not. That's why I don't show any of these fakers respect. And by the way--you said to Innagadadvida, "Just continue disrespecting him for no reason". We have a reason for disrespecting him. He makes crap music, it tarnishes the music industry and gives rap a bad name. Simple as that.mysticboy wrote:Well see that's the thing. Re: Bitch I Look Like Goku
I personally can't believe this thread hasn't been closed yet. It no longer has anything to do with Dragonball, or the Bitch I Look Like Gokou meme which is kinda dead now anyways. It's just yet another thread dukin' it out DaizEX style between opinionated people who on one hand seem to agree that opinions are opinions and should be respected for that, but on another, will not cease to write paragraphs in response to why the other person's opinion is more wrong than theirs.
This forum is not about Soulja Boy. This forum is not about hip-hop. This forum is not about how the mainstream community perceives various musical phenomena compared to others. This forum is about Dragonball, and this thread has not been about Dragonball for a long time.
Enough.

I was writing a similar post in my head reading through this thread, and then I get to your post, and now there's no point.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:Enough.
But yeah, this is not a thread about Soulja Boy or the rap industry in general. I'd rather let this thread die due to a lack of interest in the original topic than lock it for going off-topic. If you have anything Bitch-ish to post, feel free, but take the other conversations elsewhere.

I was mainly thanking the members here for creating one of a few Dragonball memes.
When people log into knowyourmeme.com and check the "Bitch I look like Goku" page, they'll know it was created by us.
And I think that it's something we should be proud of.
