Questions about box sets and new versions - please, help!!!
I have three questions. They have some additional follow-up questions too.
1.) What are the chances that there will eventually be an official R1 BOX SET for EVERY single Dragon Ball-episode/movie ever made? I mean, I was shocked to see that in October a new DBGT box set is coming out for no other reason than to have a box set out of it (since all the episodes have long been released). Plus, every now and then I look on my shelf and see Movies 4-6 in it's box set and I wonder what the hell the story is there. What are the chances (give percentages, based on your opinion/knowledge, if possible) that we will see all the episodes in boxed form eventuallly AND/OR all the movies (as was done with 4-6)?
2.) What are the chances that other episodes (besides the first 60-some-odd eps that they said they'd re-do of DBZ) will get another release? I mean is there a chance that one day we'd see, for example, the Cell Games saga with that new "hardcore" black/red packaging and a new dub/extras? Give percentage if possible.
3.) And I know that's has probably been asked 3000 times but - what are the chances of the Playidia fake-OVA being commercially released with subtitles? Also, do/will the Japanese Dragon Boxes include this "movie" as an extra? Percentages are good.
If you reply, I WILL LOVE YOU. Thanks.

Yes it is "fake". It's not really an OAV. It's from a video game. An OAV or OVA, stands for Original Animation Video or Original Video Animation. In other words, animation made for going straight to video. It's animation from cutscenes in a video game, that does not fall under the category of OAV. Therefore it can be considered a "fake OAV".
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

Its not an OVA. It has never been labled as an OVA. It never will be an OVA. Is Dragon's Lair called an OVA? Its the same exact thing. Nobody ever said it was fake, we just werent calling it an OVA.dragonbox2006 wrote:Playidia -OVA = It came with the DBZ DRAGON BOX #2.
This OVA is not fake. Its a video-tutorial for the Playdia game. I still can't beat the first Disc. I did beat the 2nd disc, that 15 secs of timing was easier than fighting COOLER,TAURUS & LORD SLUG all at once.

FUNimation hasn't said anything. This inspires great doubt in me that we will see them, since logistics says that they should only go as far as the Ginyu-Tokusentai discs, but you never can tell.Amiable-Akuma wrote:2.) Also, until we've heard anything from a reputable source, I wouldn't believe anything you might hear. If you see it on Daizex.com, or Anime News Network, you'll know the facts.
I don't knwo if FUNi will ever do a grand-scale boxset like a DragonBox, but I can definately see they releasing season boxsets redone in space saving format like other companies are doing now. Probably nicer boxes with reauthored discs in Thin-Pack cases.
Hust a theory, ADV did it with some series (.hack//SIGN) and so did Viz. (InuYasha, Mermalade Boy)

You might be able to see it, but it's still hard to say even for that. Logically, if it would be cheaper than buying the individual dvds there could be a market, but with sets for parts of Cell, Fusion, Android, and Garlic Jr, I don't really see how much more than can box set.SonGokuGT wrote:I don't knwo if FUNi will ever do a grand-scale boxset like a DragonBox, but I can definately see they releasing season boxsets redone in space saving format like other companies are doing now. On top of that, there is a VHS box set for the two Mysterious Youth arc tapes, that come with the "History of Trunks" OVA.
Maybe they could release a full set for Saiyaman, and Buu (if they already haven't for Buu,) but there is a pack for the Saiyaman dvds that comes with the flimsly paper case, similar to the first release of the Ultimate Uncut.
In, and of this however, it's all up in the air right now as to what they will do.

The reason why the playdia game can't be a 'fake OVA' is because it is not an OVA at all, everyone should know.
Why you label it 'fake' I do not know, watching it from the start it's like the start of watching any of the other movies. After the plot is revealed and they have to go to these machines that are fumigating the planet, after destroying each one (along with a few enemies) you get this little map(in video game style, graphics and sound-wise) and it skips time literally, you see the group travel along the map and appear at the next scene ready to fight, quite a time saver as it goes.
I really can't see Funi releasing this, for the scenes where they move to other sections of the map in video game style, it would look too akward, the narrator would have to fade the scene away when it get to the last bit of each battle, and say something like, 'so our heroes make their way to the south east' or something like that. But it's still a possibilty.
Also, I doubt Funimation will re-release every other episode in the same style they are doing these Ultimate Uncut ones, what, why? So people can get their DVD's in a new cool red and black case? Who will buy it? Dragonbox2006, that's who. And maybe a few others. What more can they give for the extra's, not much really. A few interviews by the dub's voices actors, not really, a preview of the next saga...boring.

I'll have to agree with you Bejiita, as I no more than you really see any logic to doing the rest of the series. However I will disagree on one point, I don't think the new red/black boxes/cases are cool at all. But thats just my opinion.Bejiita wrote:The reason why the playdia game can't be a 'fake OVA' is because it is not an OVA at all, everyone should know.

Also, as far as the footage from the two Zetsumetsu titles go, I really don't see why FUNimation would dub it... furthermore, I agree on some of the points Bejiita made about the footage itself. All in all however, I don't think there is any market in the U.S. (atleast,) for footage pulled from a videogame.
I think the only thing they could do with it, is make it an extra on an upcoming DVD release, similar to what Toei did with their DragonBoxes, but even then, I don't really know how many people would really care about it...
