Naruto, afaik, is a show about ninjas. It has a far more "Japanese" feel than Dragon Ball.

Besides, Viz rarely dub music, IIRC.

The difference there being that legitimate stand-alone bands do the music for that series. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't dub them without having to a pay a LOT. That's (one of the reasons) why the Fullmetal Alchemist songs have NEVER been dubbed.
I'm glad, too. If they ruined "Undo" and "Rewrite", I would have been livid.

He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

But those are opening and ending themes; they're a different case. Though, for insert songs, I remember Inuyasha having an insert song that was kept in the English dub. Actually, DB did the same thing. :O
With Naruto being the thoroughly Japanese show that it is, based so deeply in Japanese and ninja-based culture, it kind of makes sense not to dub the songs. Having said that, I wouldn't have minded if they did. Although FUNimation seems to be the only company that dubs songs anymore...I really hope they keep doing that. I've never understood having Japanese insert songs in English dubs. It seems so out of place.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

The only song I ever recall VIZ dubbing was Misa's song in episode 25 of Death Note. That was handled by Ocean Group though, as they dubbed Death Note for VIZ instead of Studiopolis.

They dubbed two of the Ranma 1/2 OVA openings, too.

I don't remember that movie very well, did he specifically call the kill order by the name of the captain of the crew? Or, was it just something that Dodoria spilled?
Freeza gave Bardock and his crew the order to go to planet Meat, and when they got to Meat they were ambushed by Dodoria and his men. So yeah, he specifically meant Bardock.
In the manga, when Freeza says that Goku looks like Bardock, he says specifically "he looks like the one Saiyan who fought to the end...". Then the narrator says neither of them knew it was Bardock.

A bit off-topic, perhaps, but is Lemmy the only one who thinks that this thread and the New Freeza Talkback thread should be merged at least somewhat? o.o

Nah, it's okay like this. Chris Ayres' Freeza is so overwhelmingly awesome that an entire separate thread is required to contain focused discussion and praise of it.

You seem to be in the know, Kaboom. (Then again, when aint'cha?) Know of any nice and legal links that would make me aware of Ayres' portrayal? I'm so behind on the Kai dub that it's embarrassing.

Yep, exactly what I would have posted. Make sure to watch, if nothing else, the newest episode, #44. His Freeza voicework is fantastic in that one.

My, my. This is impressive.

And I'm not talking about just Freeza, either. Everything is scores better than the original dub of Season 3. I'm hearing lines that I know and remember from the subs come out of character's mouths in fucking English, and with considerable performance power.

Thank you both!

That's "the Magic of Kai." Probably the best thing about it was the fantastic opportunity it presented for a competent and worthy redub by FUNimation, and so far, they have not disappointed.

I did find this to be hilarious, however, mainly because I'm pretty sure it wasn't in Z. ^_^

Make that red eye green, and you have Freeza Weston Chandler.

Yeah, just finished Cowboy Bebop. Not the greatest anime ever, but the casting for the original was great.
