I was pretty okay with the dub (minus the censorship) until they changed the entire cast and soundtrack on me within one episode. It's one thing when there's a new dub or there's differences from one series to the next, but in the middle of a story arc? It burned me to the core back then.
Me too. I'm certainly used to the new cast now and it's a lot of water under the bridge but those first couple of Captain Ginyu episodes? I actually had plenty of trouble watching and seriously had my mouth gaping open during that first one. I couldn't believe it.

To a lesser extent, because it was only one actor but a MAJOR one, Superman in Justice League. It took a lot of time for me to accept George Newburn when I had been hearing Tim Daly for years. Pretty much the entire first season. It didn't help that both Newburn in JL and the ENTIRE FUNi cast in DBZ took a little while before their performances were decent.

Shit, I even had problems when Peter Kelamis took over for Ian James Corlett. And those two were somewhat comparable. So, yeah, I'm probably the guy who has the most problems with cast changes. But I realize it's something we just have to fight through until it becomes the new normal.

Yeah, I was in the same boat as you and Kendamu. Back in the day I was in shock when they finally aired new DBZ (I had watched reruns over and over every time hoping they'd go past the cut off point). I didn't like it at first (and some voices I'm still not a fan of, bless you JP version), but it was still the show I loved so I kept watching.

I've seen people joke that you buy albums nowadays as a donation to the artist moreso than because you actually want/like the album. We could probably make similar jokes about the anime industry, too. And we could also go on about how it's their own fault for numerous reasons (flooding the market with niche crap, failing to adapt to new technology, etc). But that would be getting off-topic, and stuff.

Anyway, it's probably my fault the thread started going in this direction, because of my big scattered posts that I rewrote 3-4 times before hitting "Submit." This entire situation just seriously baffles me, though. I can't wrap my head around the fact that people want to boycott this rare, niche movie that has never gotten an uncut English release until now. Over a casting change for a character who's already had different voices in other movies. And no one has even heard the new performance yet.

I just honestly can't believe that people are willing to forgo new content over one voice, and I really don't think it's going to send FUNimation the intended "Bring back Nadolny!" message. Even when I try to bring it back to a Nozawa comparison so I can personally relate to it better... I'd still want to at least hear the replacement voice before condemning it.

It shouldn't boggle you by this point. Go look at the Freeza talkabck thread on the Kai forums and read our responses after hearing one little chuckle. Read the posts by people who were arguing back and forth about the dub soundtrack in the first US Dragonbox announcement threads. Pretty much read back on anything new and different that wasn't out yet and the reactions we would give and you'll get a variation of this "mind boggling" reaction over and over again.

We're nerds on the Internet. It's in our nature to pull this kind of crap. I try my hardest not to but I still do it from time-to-time.

Newburn didn't become particularly good until JLU. But by the second season he was so good, I didn't know who I liked better in the role, him or Daly.

Anyway, I made contact with Monica Rial on her Facebook about being Bulma in the new dub and she said:
Thanks Michael! Yeah, we just did the Blood Rubies dub not too long ago. It was totally fun to figure out what younger Bulma sounded like. I really love her and I'm glad that other people like her and my work on her! :)
Looking forward to hearing more of her Bulma in this movie.

XD, any "GOOD" change makes you mad. Get over it, and move on like everybody else.

Really looking foward to hearing Rial's voice in the movie.

While we're here, you should also go into more detail when you say stuff. One sentence posts like, "The Bulma replacement angers me," doesn't really cut it. We like it when people explain themselves a bit so we have more to work off of so we can say more than just "Yeah!" and "Nu-uh!" :D

I can agree with that, Chibi Gohan. :D

Her voice is just full so of Bulma. She's a great actor, and she's well suited to the role. Looking back at Vollmer's portrayal, she sounds very one dimensional. I can't see how anyone liked her. Lindbjerg was good too, as I recall. I need to try watching my Saga of Goku box set. I'll start that tonight!

The only person who is boycotting the movie, is Inna. Even though I dislike the VA switch, I'm still going to buy the movie.

I don't consider it a boycott. Though I probably presented it as such. Just tryin to get a reaction.

Have I mentioned I already have the edited version? :?

There's also a Japanese track on there.

Y'know... with Masako Nozawa... Tohru Furuya... oh, even Goro Naya is in this, as Bongo!

Your comment made me sad :(
But the question is, why does it make you sad? What in that one sentence post makes you unhappy? The raw emotion of colliding opinions, of the two extremes battling it out. Do you feel pain? Aggression? Fear of not being accepted? Tis' the life of one who doesn't share the opinion of the majority. The noble man has pity upon you, encouraging and prodding you along. The others scorn you, wittling at everything you say til there's no foundation left. The ruins of a man, of a human being, of potential. But what comes next?

Rage. Pure, unadulterated anger. No longer do you care about what others think. Among most your reputation is already low. All because of a few comments. Because you tried to establish yourself. You let it all out now, attempting to let everyone know of your hate. No thread is spared in your siege, and once they're all derailed you make new ones of little sense.

Finally, it all ends. You can no longer continue, as that's been taken away from you. Surprisingly, such a huge action can be summed up in one word: Banned.

Um, I think it is true that sometimes your opinion is looked down upon and belittled for no reason, but in this case Vegetto was just saying he can buy whatever he wants. No need to get offended.

Hey Chibi Mystic Gohan that was unnecessary. I think why some many dub fans are mad or sad is because they might have watched dragon ball with that dub at a young age and its part of their childhood.

Folks, please actually read the posts you're responding to.

Chibi Mystic Gohan wasn't saying a darn tootin' thing about whether or not Bardo117 does or should like whatever voice he likes, what reasons he has for it, any legitimacy to those reasons, etc.

He was commenting that Bardo117 didn't actually bother to read my post, assumed it was (for whatever reason) a tirade about not supporting dubs or me making extraneous disparaging remarks about them, and complained like a baby about it.

This is one of the many reasons why I try not to talk about dubbed versions of the show, because even when I agree with someone or validate their course of action, someone decides I'm doing the exact opposite and makes an embarrassing stink about it.
