DragonBall Z Kai - Cable TV Version (NickToons)
Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 20*
So in the DVD version, Vegeta still tells Kwi "You're fired"?

Yea. It's there on the DVD as well. I really thought it was a TV version line too but, seems it's not.Puto wrote:So in the DVD version, Vegeta still tells Kwi "You're fired"?
Edit: Hey new page! I'll put up episode 21 now...
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Before the episode starts, there is an editing error in the recap for the previous episode. We see Kewi's face as he's about to explode. It's less frames than the uncut version, but it's more than the TV version showed, cause the TV version just cut Kewi's face shot out all together...

Protect the Dragon Balls! The Namekians All-Out Attack!

As the episode begins, Goku lands at Bulma's parents house. When Dr. Brief talks to Goku about the ship, his cigarette is edited out...

As the Doctor talks to Goku about the task of converting the space pod into a massive ship, he says...

A little while later, he mentions...

Eventually, Goku blasts off despite not having an awesome stereo system. As the ship takes off Bulma's Mom is a little too late with the refreshments. The beer is edited to look like... pure light? I don't know...

Meanwhile on Planet Namek, Krillin and Gohan look down on a village where Freeza and his men are obtaining another Dragon Ball. One of the men yells to the Namekians in a house...

As Frezza talks to the elder Namekian, he mentions that the previous Namekian village wouldn't cooperate either...

Freeza continues to talk about how the other Namekians wouldn't grant him a Dragon Ball either. Yes, yes, we get it, you're going to kill him...

After a while, it has become clear that these Namekians aren't going to just give up a Dragon Ball. He orders Zarbon to break the ice. Zarbon kicks a Namekian in the face, the point of contact is flash edited. This particular flash was originally in this scene, but moved to cover up the actual hit.

After a barrage of attacks, Zarbon fires a blast at a Namekian. He falls to the floor, dead. This shot was cut...

As Krillin and Gohan watch this, Krillin says...

Yea, there was no alternative edited line for this, it was just silent. Odd.
Gohan is getting really angry watching this, Krillin says to him...

Despite facing death, the elder Namekian stands his ground...

Freeza then implies that if he doesn't comply he'll just kill his children...

As things look grim for the Namekians, a bunch of warrior type Namekians fly in and soon after, attack Freeza's men. There only seemed to be one flash edit in this whole fight scene. Just this one...

Every other hit seemed to already have a flash or not show the actual hit make contact so there was really no need to edit them.
Eventually, the elder Namek realizes the scouters are how they found where they were. He destroys Dodoria's scounter and as expected, Dodoria gets kinda pissed...

As he clenches his fist, his nail stabs his other fingers and he bleeds. This was edited...

As Dodoria charges at the elder Namekian, the episode ends.
Hey some more editing errors. In the next episode preview we see some scenes that are going to be flash edited or omitted all together! How odd!

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 21*
Anyone else like some of the TV lines better than the uncut ones? It looks like I'd get sick of hearing "Kill this" and "Dead that" so much...at least when they edit it on TV, they word it in a lot of different ways, to stay "fresh".

It doesn't bug me too much. I don't think any of the heroes or villains were really concerned with broadening their vocabulary in times like these.
I won't argue it's repetitive though, such is the case with a lot of Shonen stuff.

I like Freeza's edited line about the children, it seems a bit more in character for him.

I agree, actually. The dialogue written for him is so fantastic, even when it's censored.UristtheGreat wrote:I like Freeza's edited line about the children, it seems a bit more in character for him.

Sometimes, if the writers are creative enough, censoring can lead to more well written lines just to get around the censorships.KaiserNeko wrote:I agree, actually. Tanooki*...
When showing the comparsions, do you use the English Dub dialogue (Heh, there's even some cussing in that), or the English subs for reference?
Edited: Fixed.

Well, I'm comparing the English uncut version to the English TV version so, the dub dialogue. But I haven't done a comparison with Toonzai yet. Probably not ever. Just the random screens I posted in the Toonzai edits thread.

Oh, and for the record...I wasn't referring to the Toonzai version...That was just a butchered spelling of your name. o.o

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 21*
Dodoria's Terrifying Chase! A Truth Revealed to Vegeta!

As the episode starts Dodoria is already on the attack. He punches a hole through random warrior Namekian #44. This was cut...

In the TV version it just seems as if Dodoria appeared behind the Namekian and punched him in the back. The hole in the back of the Namekian is edited to cover up the hole...

Also edited is the shot of the Namekian falling to the floor...

Next Dodoria mouth blasts another Namekian. The reaction shot is cut...

Next, a Namekian blast Dodoria but, has no effect. There is a pan shot of Gohan and Krillin that was, for some reason cut...

Dodoria charges the Namekian into the side of a mountain, killing him. The exact moment the Namekian hits the mountain and reaction shot is cut...

The next shot of the dead Namekian is also edited for blood...

Now that the elder Namekian and children are the only one left, the elder gives Freeza the Dragon Ball thinking he and his men will be on their way, like he said he would.

Dodoria swoops in and elbows the elder in the face...

This sends him flying backwards. The first few frames of the elder falling back before rolling on the floor are cut...

When the elder gets up, his blood is edited...

Freeza demands that the elder tell him where the next village is. The elder, knowing he's probably going to die, still refuses to help.

To which Freeza replies...

Freeza then sends Dodoria to kill them. He mouth blast Cargo, Dende's brother, killing him. The shot of the blast hitting Cargo was replaced with a reaction shot of the elder...

A shot of the smoldering body is also cut...

Dodoria then attacks the elder, punching him right in the face. This was cut...

In the TV version, this punch is what kills him. There is a shot of Dodoria with his fist to the elders face after the punch, but right before Dodoria vanishes again (to snap the Namekian neck), they cut the scene there.

That 15 second cut was replaced with a 3 second reaction shot of Dende while we hear the sound of the Namekian hitting the floor.

Dodoria goes after Dende next. Watching this, Gohan can't take anymore and swoops down and kicks Dodoria right in the face. This was flash edited...

Krillin then fly's down, kicks Dodoria in the face and grabs Dende...

Gohan, Krillin and Dende fly off. Dodoria gives chase and catches up with them soon after. Krillin drops Dende during a barrage of blast Dodoria was shooting at them...

Dodoria is way to close to loose now, Krillin uses one of Tenshinhan's signature moves to get slow down Dodoria...

It works. Krillin, Gohan and Dende fly off, losing Dodoria. As Dodoria is looking for them without the use of a scouter, he says...

Sometime after, there is a scene of Bulma talking to her Dad while in the tub. The note on the door is edited to have English writing. You can see by the subtitles that it's actually pretty close to what was originally written on there.

At some point during the conversation we see Dr. Brief. His cigarette is edited out...

Then, there is nothing else edited for a while. Not until Vegeta and Dodoria meet and face off. Even then though the only thing edited was one line. That whole fight with Dodoria and Vegeta, there were no edits. The part where Vegeta blast Dodoria, everything is all there in the TV version. This was the only line edited...

And that's episode 22!

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 22*
Yet more edits to violence and swearing, with the occasional translation.
I have to wonder if it would fair better on Cartoon Network. I was watching a show called Adventure Time, and kill/die was used several times, as was an imaginary necksnap, and some light innuendos. Oh well, I guess that bridge was burned with Toonami.
I've got to say, the writers are certainly using the censorships to try some creativity with Freeza's lines. Not always the best, but some are nice alternatives.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 22*
Adventure Time does push the boundaries but it has a TVPG rating, whereas I believe Dragon Ball Z Kai has a Y7 rating. The target demo is also different, despite the colorful and bright kiddie look of AT.
Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 22*
I would say the target audience for both is about the same. It only has the TV-PG rating only to not be restricted by certain things. AT doesn't not really have anything that's truly PG worthy.Innagadadavida wrote:The target demo is also different, despite the colorful and bright kiddie look of AT.

I'm not sure why Dragon Ball Z Kai wasn't rated TV-PG in the first place. It seems more appropriate.

It's funny, at first they would say "die" and "death" and all those things in the Vegeta arc. Once the Namek stuff started though, it seems they omitted all those words. Odd. I guess we'll see what this leads too...

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits! *Ep 22*
Yeeeahhh but it's not as appropriate for little little kids as far as language. There is some pretty inappropriate words (more specifically on AT's sister show, Regular Show, which shares a timeslot), some more than obvious innuendos, as well as some disturbing imagery. Dragon Ball Z Kai is certainly more violent, but violence seems to be less of an issue than language on American television.AgitoZ wrote:I would say the target audience for both is about the same.
