How Would You Improve GT?
The thread itself has long since departed into the naughty No-No realm of No Necroposting, but the topic still warrants discussion and can be revived!
I find GT itself to be highly watchable as is. It plays a little too much like fanfiction, but it's of a fun sort most of the time. What keeps it from reaching beyond that is, more than anything else, probably just a lack of common sense, and I think that injecting the show with a fair amount would morph it into a more respectable successor to Z. Aside from that, the rest is about a bunch of minor tweaking that, collectively, would likely make a major difference.
An example, on my part, would be:
Suggestion: Introduce SSj4 later, perhaps much later. No need to drop it, but rather, let's reserve the transformation for the middle/end of the series. Play it up as the "ultimate" level of Saiyan power that it suggests itself to be, instead of introducing it early and then using it repetitiously to the exclusion of all other levels.
Utilization: Allow for SSj3 to play more of a role either via development of a Full Power version (i.e., for use against Baby) or giving new characters (such as Vegeta) access to the form. Even just an adult version of Gotenks would be "new" enough to extend the life of the transformation.
What else do you think would/could improve the performance of GT? This is the thread for those things. ^_^

Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
Alright as of right now the thing that bothers me the most is how Goku in the cell games could use his full power SSJ Kamehameha wave and destroy the planet. Jump to GT and Goku is in SSJ4 and he fires the KamehamehaX10 at the ground and simply makes a crater... Anyone else see what's wrong with this?
Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
SSJ 3 Gotenks fires multiple ki blasts at Super Buu, who is in a crater, and nothing significant happens to the Earth.powerupguy wrote:Alright as of right now the thing that bothers me the most is how Goku in the cell games could use his full power SSJ Kamehameha wave and destroy the planet. I think it has something to do with blasts being concentrated are more likely to destroy the Earth, than several continuos ones, who logically should be very powerful by themselves(SSJ 2 Vegeta vs Kid Buu for example).
But I see your problem, since any concentrated blast, by SSJ 4 Goku should make more damage, than just a crater.
Or maybe he mastered his ki so much, that he is in total control of how much damage the blasts do to the planet he is on?

Yes. Ki blasts fired by characters stronger than Saiyan arc Vegeta should be planet-busting, but they aren't. This has been much more of a problem in Z than in GT, so...powerupguy wrote:Alright as of right now the thing that bothers me the most is how Goku in the cell games could use his full power SSJ Kamehameha wave and destroy the planet. Anyhow, the only significant change I'd make would be to choose a theme and stick with it. Everyone could just "tell" that GT tried to kick itself off on a note of adventurous whimsicality, but this was all scrapped in only 8 episodes when the viewer was walked around the block into DBZ-esque power levels.

Well I didn't mean ki blasts, more like finishers and kamehameha's but i get what you're saying.Savage68 wrote:Yes. Eh, I'd say that the adventure theme kept going up through the early twenties. One Piece has big fights every arc but manages to continue being an epic adventure story. The real problem with the Lood arc was the inconsistent combat strength of the gang. Super Saiyan Gokû has trouble facing Mutchi but base Trunks kills him with one normal ki blast? Gokû can't damaged Lood in his normal form...so he keeps on using his normal form?
Generally speaking, there's a lot of things I would do to 'improve' Dragon Ball GT. I have a ten-plus thousand word plot rewrite that I'm still tweaking to this day (I'll save you all the trouble of having to read a big ol' post by simply not posting it). It's a pretty heavy rewrite that I do plan to some day use for a fan fiction. I know Kaboom got his fan fic, too, but I'm not sure we should be moving toward the 'fan fiction-y' aspect of the discussion or not.
I suppose the core ideas I'd advocate for are improving the writing in relation to power usage and the roles that non-Gokû characters play. The passage of time could use some clearing up, too. Dropping hints of the final battle with the Evil Dragons would also be nice. Trying to tie everything together nicer and with hints of the future for the characters beyond the story would be nice, too.

Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
You can't.
• The plot is not interesting.
Dragon Ball is one of the best stories ever. GT is just a generic plot to extend the produces revenue.
It's like comparing the best meal you had in the life with dog food.
There is no "improving". You would need to replace 100% of the story.
• Dragon Ball has some of the best battles ever. Dragon Ball GT is random !@#$.
The battle against Piccolo Jr.? The Saiyan arc? The Namek arc? E-P-I-C
In GT the battles are just a bunch of moves copied from Toriyama work merged with previsible clichés. You don't fell any fun with the battles.
In Dragon Ball you fell a lot of tension. You fear the battles. You don't believe the hero will win.
Pokémon is better than GT in these terms.
• Dragonball GT is not funny.
Dragonball was one of the funniest mangas ever. I believe I don't even need to include any example.
GT is not funny, there are scenes which characters try to be funny, but they aren't. Remembers the "Para Para Brothers"? My 2 years old cousin won't find it funny. I can't find words to describe that kind of scene.
You can have more laughs with teletubbies than GT.
You could otherwise create a new story including some elements from GT, like space traveling, golden Oozaru, etc. But that's different from "improving".

This is not a "GT sucks beyond repair so let's bitch about it" thread, it's a "how would you improve GT?" thread.
Anyway, my answer is that' I'd write this. Except, I'd write it a lot faster.

It is incredibly easy to fix GT.

I would get rid of SSJ4 entirely and focus more on fusions and/or more teamwork.
Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
GT would only be 1 episode long than as Vegetto would kill everyone straight away.Rocketman wrote:It is incredibly easy to fix GT.
Rocketman wrote:"Shonen" basically means "stupid sentimental shit" anyway, so it's ok to be anti-shonen.

Put the name "Akira Toriyama" in the credits under "writer", in every episode.
Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
He wrote the original series, I guess they are obligated to put his name as they do in filler episodes of the anime.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Put the name "Akira Toriyama" in the credits under "writer", in every episode.
Or is it just a way of the producers to deceive the fans and make money? Nah, it's probably because of the first reason
Edit: I guess I misundertood Piccolo's post? Nevermind...

My ideas
- Well I would have a better explanation why the Black Star Dragon Balls exist, and why no one else can find them expect for Pilaf
- Have Ubb join Goku, Trunks, and Pan in space
- Have Goku become a Adult after Bebi was killed
- Vegeta goes SSj3
- Keep Gohan msytic
- Since people want a more of a original villain insted of Super 17. Then a Cyber or Mecha Goku as a villain instend of Super 17 would have been a better choice

I'll bet you anything they could do this with the series as is, and complaints would mysteriously drop by fifty percent.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Put the name "Akira Toriyama" in the credits under "writer", in every episode.

Re: How Would You Improve GT? 2.0
"You only hate ______ because _____ did/didn't do it" is such a cop-out complaint. It assumes that people are incapable of judging work objectively, regardless of who created it. Maybe there are some people who mindlessly worship certain writers, actors, production companies, etc. But to blanket label the masses that way is just undermining and insulting.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:That's what I meant.Cipher wrote:I'll bet you anything they could do this with the series as is, and complaints would mysteriously drop by fifty percent.
So, just as Kaboom said that this thread isn't about bashing GT, it's also not about mocking people who bash GT, either.

The biggest gripes I have are the fact Goku is a child, and Gohan lost Mystic. If those were fixed, I could accept it.
