Sabat vs Drummond

Just wondering who do you guys prefer as the voice of Vegeta and why? Chris Sabat the Funimation voice of Vegeta or Brian Drummond the Ocean voice actor for Vegeta?

Sabat. Drummond's voice is a tad too "wheezy" for me. Of course, I don't think Drummond's ever done a DB dub without a horrible script or direction, so the bar for comparison to Sabat, who has done faithful games and Kai, is different.

Sabat sounds too deep as well as... not Vegeta-like. Drummond sounds too angry and scratchy. Though, with proper direction (perhaps in an Ocean dub of Kai), Drummond's Vegeta would blow Sabat's Vegeta out of the water!

Drummond for "It's over 9000!"

Sabat for everything else.

Yeah, Drummond's "It's over NINE THOUSAND!!" definitely beats Sabat's rather weak "It's over nine thousand, ARGH!"

I used to like Chris Sabat's Vegeta a lot, but then I realized that I only liked his voice so much because he voiced my favourite character, Vegeta and I was watching DBZ in it’s entirety for the first time. Later on, I realized that most of his voices overlap and don’t sound natural at all. Almost all of them save Yamcha and Yajirobe sound forced. Many people said, Sabat just sounds like a guy screaming in a booth and I see why they’re right. Just watch Dragon Box footage or even the new Kai dub and spot the odd voice out .Just spot the voice that doesn’t fit in. It’s Sabat. His Vegeta voice sounds so forced, he sounds like an old man yelling at a tree. It’s just not natural sounding.

I like Drummond better. He portrays Vegeta perfectly. He makes him sound intelligent, cunning, devious, very arrogant and a little disturbed. Drummond really shines as a voice actor during the Namek saga.

yeah but why should Drummond think Vegeta is freaking out and screaming about it being 9000? Vegeta is twice that at the time...

Of the English dubs? Christoper Sabat, because I'm more used to him and find his voice less raspy and comical than Brian Drummond's.

I dunno. Vegeta does look a bit angry. And I think even Horikawa sounded a little pissed when he said it. I just think that Sabat's delivery was lame.

I prefer Drummond's voice when Vegeta is still the bad guy and Sabat for everything else. Like when Vegeta starts living on Earth I thought Sabat was a better fit but everything prior to that Drummond all the way.

Because Goku is a low class Saiyan commoner and the trash that was put out at the curb. Vegeta and Nappa are Super Elite's. The fact that Goku could even have such a power level is like a slap in the face to a high class warrior such as Vegeta. It stands as a direct insult to his pride.

Personally, I think "Original Vegeta" (aka Drummond) will always be the best.

Vegeta's especially pissed because Goku managed to improve that much in one year.

As far as English dub goes, my preference is Brian Drummond, because he is so smug sounding. I mean, really, he has this extremely overconfident sound to him, like he's impressing himself even, even with his own words. He's enjoying thoroughly everything coming out of his mouth. He really sounds like he's the highest of high.

However, Chris Sabat's Vegeta is fairly good, especially in Kai. He has a more natural delivery and makes the character sound more textured than he used to.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

That's not reason enough for him to scream like that, though. Vegeta's a cool-headed guy; he would be trying to hold in his anger, and keep a cool-headed appearance. When he breaks the scouter, he's letting his anger out in a not-very-noticeable fashion. Screaming is not trying to keep your cool.
