Am I the only one who thinks it would be awesome of Ayers also voiced Koola? Keep the original parallel there?
Really? I never liked how Cooler was voiced by Nakao, it really made him even more of a "Freeza clone." I mean just because two people are brothers doesn't mean they have to sound alike.

I thought Andy Chandler's voice was great, and that he did a great job on Cooler.

Actually, I do think that Andy Chandler did well as Coola, but I was just saying that it wouldn't be awful if they replaced him with Ayres. And it's not just because they're brothers means they have to sound alike. Coola is barely any different from Freeza anyway, minus some of the gentlemanly smugmess.

Agreed. The producers of the Japanese version just don't seem to get that relatives of the same gender don't necessarily have to sound similar.

That doesn't really matter, because in their case they've always picked the right actors for the roles. Nakao did a brilliant job seperating Coola from Freeza. One could listen to Coola and know instantly Freeza would never speak like that.

Radditz and Gokou sounded nothing alike.

I agree with JulieYBM; Nakao did a good enough job differenciating the characters, and I think Ayers could do a good job as well. Mind you I've never heard Koola's English voice, so I can't judge it; I declined to watch the majority of the movies in English because they apparently used American rock bands for the soundtrack.

I was mainly referring to Gokū/Gohan/Goten/Barduck. But I really don't want to turn this thread into a Nozawa argument.

You can watch the dub with Kikuchi's score on the double features. Coola's dub voice is very fitting, so I suggest you do.

The only reason I won't buy boxes of this dub is because of Sabat. He just ruins everything. I'd much rather just own the Japanese DVDs and download some of the good dub episodes instead.
Really because I thought that his piccolo now is really good. Not to mention he is helping with the dub`s accuracy. And his vegeta has improved greatly. Just watch vegeta`s death scene in Kai and you`ll see.

It's a shame Linda Young didint voice Freeza for the dub of Kai. For me it wasn't the lung cancer granny voice that ruind Freeza's character for the dub of Z it was the script. I like Linda's Freeza voice (there I said it). It may not have sounded Gentlemanly like Ayers or Nakao's Freeza Voice but it sounded really evil and sinister If they had stuck more closer to the original script or at least left out lines like "whats wrong? baby got a booboo?" "dont make me break a nail" and my personal faviorite "all right big guy what ever turns you on" dub Freeza would have been my Faviorite version of the character. After playing Burst Limit with its more accurate scipt I think that Linda's Freeza voice with a more accurate script is like chocolate with penut butter. Also it would have been nice to here Z dub Freeza's voice with a bit more emotion seeing as how much all the other voice actors had inproved.

No, it really isn't.

Burst Limit's Freeza was just... more old-dub Freeza. It felt like Young was really trying to keep up with Schemmel's awesomeness (they really must've slipped something in his coffee that morning), but was just failing miserably.
Moments like "I really... thought I was going to... ddddie" were just cringe-worthy.

Pretty much what I think as well. I don't think Linda is a terrible actress, she's just only suited for certain roles. Freeza just isn't, nor will it ever be, one of those roles. Chris just has so much range and emotion, he just perfectly captures the character in a way I haven't seen since Freeza's seiyuu.

I was watching the dub of Fusion Reborn the other day...and it was like being visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past. I was just shocked to hear the voice again. It started off with a blast of nostalgia and was then immediately followed up by immense amounts of gratitude for what we have now.

The first time I watched that movie, I heard Freeza shouting from the back before he appeared on screen. I think it was the 5.1 Surround Sound track. I actually thought for a moment, "Who's that old lady?"

This was well before Kai and after I had watched the TV series dubbed.

I'm watching Yu Yu Hakusho right now and Linda uses her Freeza voice for Genkai. And it really works. The sarcasm. The old-ladyness. She is a great actress when put in the right role.

I think the best compromise we could have if they redub the movies would be to have Coola be played by *drumroll* Greg Ayres! Brothers playing brothers. It could totally work!

Hahaha. That would be pretty awesome. I hope to hear more of Greg Ayres in Dragon Ball (LOVED his Ghurd). He'd make an amazing Pilaf as well.

No, we already have a more than serviceable Pilaf. And Chuck Huber isn't going anywhere. Besides, Greg Ares has a very distinct voice and you can always tell it is him. Who here even picked up that Pilaf was voiced by the same man who voiced Android 17?

I had no idea until you pointed it out just now.

They're both very good voices.

Eh... I never especially liked Huber's Pilaf. It just sounded like a poor impersonation of Brown's Pilaf. And even then, Greg Ayres would make a much better Pilaf than Brown.

And come on...! Greg Ayres played Hideki in Daikon Brothers... I had no idea it was Greg Ayres till I looked it up.

They're both very good voices.

It's actually pretty obvious, whenever 17 gets mad he sounds like him.

He also voiced Garlic Jr which sounded exactly like Pilaf. Not a very versatile VA in my opinion.

It's not fair to judge how versatile he is based off of that. FUNimation likely said "Okay, this guy looks like Pilaf...so Huber, do your thing." They did a similar thing with Slug. They needed someone to do an old, deep voice, so they just asked Armstrong to do his Ginyu voice. It's more FUNimation being lazy than it is a lack of talent from the VA.

I like Huber's 17 voice...but it sounds a little old for the character. I think he works for Pilaf, but not Garlic Jr.

I agree that No. 17 sounds too old in FUNi's dub. I think I liked his voice in the Westwood dub of DBGT the best, surprisingly enough.

I seriously will be disappointed if Greg Ayres doesn't voice Pilaf in a re-dub of DB (Dragon Ball Kai for DB?).

And, bah... we need new episodes so we can say new things about Chris Ayres' Freeza!
