In the manga, just before Goten and Trunks face Super Buu in the Room of Spirit and Time and right after they finish training for the fight, they talk about SSJ3 and Trunks states that it`s weakness is time since they could only hold it for a short period of time and that it even canceled out their fusion afterwards.

Really?! I thought Trunks only mentions the 5 minutes weakness and it canceling the fusion are bad translations. It even isn't something we actually get to see later.

Its just like that in the Viz translation and I believe its accurate. After all, even GT used that idea to make Gogeta unfuse early.

Yeah just see how many times the number 5 is written out on this page volume 41/34 it's in the second panel, third panel and seventh panel. And in panel 6 you see the number 30 is present, so even if you don't understand japanese it should be obvious, that they were talking about fusion.

Well in my version on the previous page, they said that they surpassed SSJ(SSJ 3, since we are shown later on, that "surpassed Super Saiyan" means SSJ 3 to them), but it left Goten severely exhausted.
On the page I posted Trunks then goes on to say, that their fusion only lasted 5 minutes, but Goten is okay with that, since it's more than enough.
So yeah, if that translation is correct, then SSJ 3 indeed shortened their fusion time.

If you still have doubts, you can always use the manga page that dbgtFO posted and ask Herms (or somebody else) to translate the panel at the top that has the clock drawn. That is the panel where Viz`s translation says that SSJ3 canceled their fusion.

So, SSJ3 does indeed interfere with the duration of Gotenks` fusion. Viz didn`t change the original meaning of the line.

Probably because they are tired after using their fusion and the SSJ3 state. Since they didn`t have a chance to rest up, most of their power is gone.

Now, which Trunks do you think had won? And about Goten, it will be the same universe Goten or it will be the other one?

I don`t think so...

What they did is considered to be equivalent to Tenshinhan`s technique of splitting himself. Since the split bodies are basically Gotenks, its not against the rules, because we still have just one fighter. He just happens to be split in more than one part/bodies.

And since its just considered to be a technique, all they have to do is win. It doesn`t matter if they "undo" the "splitting technique" before leaving the ring or not because, by then, the winner of the match has already been declared.
