Re: Sabat vs Drummond
I liked Drummond. He had a way of making Vegeta sound very condesending and sarcastic when he spoke. . In a weird way he was sort of like Clint Eastwood with his tone. "You'll miss your moment" was one of his best lines BTW. He also drove home that dub line on Namek in a way, that Sabat never could.

That's after he's snapped. He kinda snaps on Earth (while fighting Gokuh), but after things go wrong on Planet Namek, he really snaps. O_o

Re: Sabat vs Drummond
Between Drummond and Sabat in DBZ, I'd say Drummond. But between Drummond and Sabat in DBkai, it's Sabat for me easily. He's really toned down and doesn't sound hoarse all the darn time.
Re: Sabat vs Drummond
I like both, I can't really decide which I like better. Sabat and Drummond are good as Vegeta.

Agreed. They're both interchangeable--because they're both good. However, I say that comparing Drummond to Sabat *now*, and not Sabat when he first started.Codarik wrote:I like both, I can't really decide which I like better. Sabat and Drummond are good as Vegeta.
Typically when an actor returns to their role after a reasonably long hiatus, one of two things happen. Either they sound unenthusiastic in a, "Dear God, not this again" kind of way, or they sound better than ever because they're so excited to have a shot at playing the character again. It'll be interesting to see which direction Drummond goes in if they use him again for the Ocean dub of Kai.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I feel the same way. Drummond definitely sounds more threatening to me. But that's just me. Sabat is super talented also though.Codarik wrote:I like both, I can't really decide which I like better. Sabat and Drummond are good as Vegeta.
I guess if I had to hire one of them I'd go with Sabat since the guy has done sooo many voices for the Dragon Ball franchise. But Drummond is amazing as well though. I just really like both of them.

Re: Sabat vs Drummond
That sounds backwards. Wouldn't you want to hire Drummond because Sabat already voiced half the characters in DBZ?

Re: Sabat vs Drummond
Drummond was very good in the first 53 episodes. But when he returned, I don't know what happened. His voice did not suit the character anymore. Maybe it was the years listening to Sabat, but maybe it was because Vegeta was no longer the villain so Drummond's voice didn't completely fit like it used to.

Re: Sabat vs Drummond
Neither. To me Drummond's Vegeta was to over-dramatic and maniacal, while Sabat's Vegeta sounds pissed 24/7, also Sabat's screams where terrible.
(as with all the characters Sabat voiced in DBZ)
Overall they both come off as characitures that simplify Vegeta's character, but if I had to choose I'd pick Drummond, simply cause his yells don't make me cringe

Re: Sabat vs Drummond
Part of that could be due to that dub being rushed and poorly directed; I was told they never really had a stable voice director.Deimos wrote:Drummond was very good in the first 53 episodes. Re: Sabat vs Drummond
Drummond is AWESOME in the namek saga. If you want a normal sounding Vegeta search on youtube, "Enter Vegeta & Nappa"
He can talk the talk and walk the walk with the character, when I hear Sabat it's just eh...
A good look at Drummond is Vegeta in the rain with FUNi music--good god he is excellent and sounds WAY better than Sabat. That was during Ocean's horrible Android saga and he still outshines Sabat. People say Sabat changed in Kai but I don't hear it.

I don't think Sabat is much different in Kai either. He sounds pretty much the same IMO.

He does. No difference whatsoever.cpd12589 wrote:I don't think Sabat is much different in Kai either. He sounds pretty much the same IMO.
I think the problem I have is when Sabat's characters are breathing heavy he give them a wierd sound instead of actually breathing.
