New Dragon Boxes Petition

Post by Mr. Robot » Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:05 pm

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so please bear with me.

What do you guys think about starting a petition to Toei for new Dragon Boxes, particularly Dragon Box Zs? If there was interest, maybe they'd issue new editions, perhaps in slightly different forms.

However, they might not care if they saw that the majority of those interested were not Japanese.

So, possible problems:

Lack of interest
Nationality
Toei wanting to keep them "limited editions"
Unwillingness to reissue due to individual releases.

Given all of these, what do you guys say?

Theres no real need right now - considering they ARE planning individual disc releases for the Z series.

Uh, you should read this post: here, read DBW's posts, as they tend to put things in perspective.

But in case you aren't really interested in reading something in another post, because you had to go and make this one, I'll do my best.

1.) The DragonBoxes were released as a PROMOTIONAL 'gift-set' like boxed set, for the Japanese community. This means that the only way the box sets will get renewed, is if there's a big enough demand in Japan for them.

2.) The DragonBoxes (all of them) were being made to fit a specific quota. You don't pre-order, then you're out of luck. Toei only produced enough to fill the pre-order's and maybe one or two extra for the participating Japanese companies.

3.) The only available method to get the older boxes, is, and has been going to private sales/auctions. Note: These private sales will likely be more expensive than the item itself, when it was first released, depending the condition.

4.) Toei will be releasing the DVD's seperately with between 5, and 6 episodes per-disc for about $35.00, so even the people who couldn't get the boxes have a chance to have the series in the same quality as that of the DragonBox release, just without the box, or the extras.

Now to sum this all up, no American interest won't get you more DragonBoxes in print, as they were a limited time promotion by the Japanese production company that made the series', for the Japanese audience. As well, petitions (especially online) wont work, they never have. It's been a very long time since I've heard of a petition (especially online) work, so you would be kicking a dead horse there.
In short, your only two options are the single release dvds (when they become available,) or private sales.

Yeah, you guys are probably right.

Just a question: What is the point of getting the individual releases by Toei? Wouldn't it be better to get the FUNi releases? For one thing, they offer subtitles.

The only downside I could see is that there'd be about twice as many volumes.

Really not in the mood for moderating a discussion concerning online (DBZ) petitions, and really not in the mood for moderating yet another discussion on the pros/cons of the Toei vs FUNimatio discs. Locking.
